Warhammer Fest 2019

So the weekend gone saw me in Coventry again for Warhammer Fest. For the first time I did both days. Missed out on a number of Seminars but it was still a very enjoyable weekend.

As always I took a load of pictures. All the news is already out there so I won't bother going over things here.

1. Adeptus Titanicus.

New Knight coming soon and new parts for the Questoris Knights. You can also see the new Reaver carapace missile which we saw previewed as a 3D render at the Heresy Weekender.

Blood Bowl - Nurgle Team 1

After waiting patiently the Nurgle team for Blood Bowl finally arrived.

Obviously I needed to make some changes so I didn't have completely identical sculpts.

Through the use of Plaguebearer, Blight Kings, Chaos Spawn and Beastmen bits I mixed things up a bit.

The Bloaters benefited from Blight King pieces, with one getting tentacles. In hindsight should have given the one on the right more to differentiate him from the standard sculpt.

Pestigors, one got the multiple arm mutation. Other than than used a mix of bits to change him a bit.

For the Rotters various things were added, tweaked, changed etc to make them look different.

I also added an additional rotter made from Ungor legs, Plaguebearer body & arms and a Rotter head. He's called Barry.

After that I actually started painting...

Started with the Bloaters, still WIP with plenty left to do.

Also worked on the tokens.

So...probably going to pick up a second box to give me more pestigor and rotters and to allow me to add options for the Bloaters with mutations.

Warhammer Fest 2018 - Part 1 Specialist Games

Welcome to a massive dump of pictures from today's Warhammer Fest.

First up a load of pictures from Specialist Games.

40k Open Day 2017

So I was at the 40k Open Day Saturday and as always here are some of the pictures I took, plus a bit of info.

Specialist Games.

Blood Bowl:

Elf Union team out soon (as we've seen obviously).
We may see the next team in January before being released within a few months after that.
Nurgle team is "in production" which could mean many things, not being boxed up at the moment...though I hope it will be the one in the new year. Bloaters sound great.

Necromunda:

Orlocks are next (again we we've seen) with Gang War II coming along at the same time with rules for them.
By the end of next year we will have the big six gangs out.
Also coming - spring time was mentioned - we'll have Genestealer Cult, Chaos Cult and Bounty Hunter gangs in White Dwarf.
The Chaos gang is based around the Dark Vengeance cultists, but you can add things like a Spawn and a psyker. It was mentioned that the chaos gang are based around the idea of dissatisfied hivers and workers rebelling against the tyrants above and calling on the chaos gods to help them.

Forge World Open Day 2017 - Part 1

Here are the pictures from today's Forge World Open Day.

These are just of anything new on display. Pics from exhibitions etc will wait till part two.

Specialist Games:

First a bit of info from chatting to the Specialist Games team.

NOTE: I'm not a reporter, I wasn't recording things or taking notes so:

  1. I may have misheard,
  2. I may have mis-remembered,
  3. I may have misunderstood and
  4. things change.

So while I am happy to pass on anything I heard  it is no guarantee things won't happen differently...

Specialist Games is all plastic, so that's BB teams, Necromunda gangs etc. Star Players, special characters etc will remain resin though. While they would like these to be plastic they just don't have enough designers to do that. Most star players are done in peoples free time outside of work and then bought by FW on a freelancers rate.

Necromunda is not the reason for Adeptus Titanicus being pushed back. Necro has been in the plans since March (I think it was March) and the release date is pretty much still on course. AT has been pushed back because it has grown far beyond what was originally planned.

The White Dwarf which has the pictures of Mortarian which leaked recently also has the Necro preview in, so it's a surprise pics of that didn't leak as well.

Blood Bowl:

Gobbo pitch won't be around till there is a second team to go on the back of it (so presumably the Elven Union).

Elven Union will hopefully be out for Christmas.

Minotaur (first previewed at Warhammer Fest) comes with alternative heads and arms.

Blood Bowl - Gobbos 2

So the Gobbo's are now built and undercoated white.

This includes a Troll I picked up. I really do like the model, however I couldn't resist a bit of a repose.

His shoulder pad will stay separate until he's painted.

I ended up doing some more bases - planning ahead I knew I would need more for the second resin set from Forge World and probably at some point a second Troll.

At the same time I did two ball markers.

They along with the all of the others got cleaned up and then undercoated.

Next Saturday these should be getting a game at Warhammer World.

I doubt I will get any paint on them before then though.

Blood Bowl and AoS Skirmish

I'm not dead.

Just busy.

But I have managed to get some progress done.

Blood Bowl - Gobbos 1.

I went to the GamesExpo in Birmingham a month or so back. Really good day out and I came away having spent more money than I should have.

One of the things I picked up was a Gobbo team for Blood Bowl. The damn buggers were just too cute not to buy. Along with them was Da Black Gobbo and the Secret Weapons set.

With these I am shelving the Nurgle team I started playing around with. I haven't the time for all that converting, I'll wait to the GW Nurgle team comes out and in the meantime the Gobbos will take to the field.

I only did some very minor conversions, just tweaks so that they weren't all exactly identical.

The resin figures had some pins added and GS for gaps etc. The bases had weights added as I could see the secret weapon guys getting knocked over easily. The bases later had resin added to secure the coin couldn't get knocked out.

I've now got the bases all textured. I have added magnets to them and to some balls to make it easier. I'll also do some ball markers, so just balls on 25mm bases.

Quite happy with the texture I got on them.

I did a quick mock up for painting, not 100% so i'll be tweaking it (the picture quality makes it look worse)..

Age of Sigmar - Skirmish 1.

Something else I have managed to do is put together some Tzeentch daemons which are for a small force for Skirmish.

I picked up the collecting box set (which are all bloody good value) which gives more than enough models for a Skirmish force, indeed I've not bothered building all of the models as I'll never be able to use them all.

That's a Herald, Flamer, six Pink Horrors including a champion, standard and musician, three Blue Horrors and three Screamers. I'll prob get to use half of those for Skirmish...

I even started playing around with test schemes. I know, paint, who'd have thought?

Warhammer Fest 2017 - Part 1 - New Stuff

First batch of pictures from Warhammer Fest 2017.

Only managed to get into the Specialist Games seminar this time round, so no pics from the Forge World seminar.

Blood Bowl - Nurgle Team 1

The Poxed? The Pustule Pirates? The Weeping Sores?

I'll think of a name later.

I suddenly found myself with a day for hobby.and so you would think I would leap at the chance to get something finished - the AdMech ZM force or the Militia Lascannon teams...instead I decided on impulse to start a Nurgle Blood Bowl team.

This will be a rough and ready team knocked out to get some games in until Specialist Games release their team.

So the plan is to do this cheaply...I'll use a couple of Blight Kings as they are for Bloaters, I've bought some knackered zombies to be the base of some Rotters and some Beastmen are on their way to me to be converted into Pestigors.

That leaves just one model to look at, namely the Rotspawn.

Many moons ago (when Apocalypse was first released) I bought some Chaos Spawn and it was about time I put one of them to some use.

Almost got him finished today, would have done if the glue hadn't been having one of those days when it never wants to sodding stick anything together.

I used this body for the base as it has a more dynamic pose, giving the impression (I hope) of the Rotspawn charging forward into the opposition team. Might need to look at a different base though, need to check if a 40mm base will fit on the board.

I used a spare Blight King belly to allow me to get some Nurgling fun into the team.

The right arm is made up of four pieces. It is very WIP below (due to said problem with the glue).

For the head I am looking at two options - a. the fly head from the spawn kit and b. a human BB team head to show where this spawn originally came from...

Recalcitrant Daze - Heresy and Blood Bowl

Several weeks from the last post not a lot has happened.

I made a start on my Adeptus Mechanicum Zone Mortalis force, however as you can see below it hasn’t progressed far.

I also half three Vorax half built. I am not enjoying building these. At all.

The lack of progress is partly due to how long it is taking to build them and partly the fact the Christmas break went far too quickly and before I knew it I was back in work and back doing the degree.

I did take off this weekend past to get in some games of Blood Bowl.

It’s been a long time since I have played Blood Bowl. It was good to handle some oddly shaped spikey balls again.

I am tempted to pick up the forthcoming Ogre, just to add a bit of variety to the Human team and some hitting power. Long term I won't be doing anything with the two teams from the box as I am waiting for the Nurgle team to be released. Until then I'll have to make do with the Orc and Human teams. Hopefully Papa Nurgle won't wait too long.

Now this time next week my mind will be turning very much to the Horus Heresy Weekender.

My shopping list is quite short...

...and if it is there the next Imperial Armour book. That, at the moment, is it.

I will do the usual multiple posts after the event, and possibly on the Saturday evening as well.

I will also be on Twitter during the event, so go along to @Rictus40k if you want to keep an eye on what I manage to post up.

A few of us are also going to be at Warhammer World on the Friday, I know there will be a fair few others also at WHW before the event so say hello if you want to.

New Years Open Day 2017

Fresh back from Warhammer World from the New Year Open Day.

First News...the only info I can at the moment remember...this may be a bit shambolic as I'm just putting down stuff I can remember and hoping it makes sense.

Horus Heresy – Book Seven:

Only asked about availability, Tony Cottrel thinks it is on for the Heresy Weekender, the book is at the printers at all being well the boats packed with black books should arrive back in the UK in time for the first week in Feb and the Horus Heresy Weekender.

Specialist Games – had a chat with Andy Hoare, as always a friendly chap who seems happy to answer what was almost certainly the fiftieth time he had heard the same questions being put to him that day.

Adeptus Titanicus:

Release has been put back. Mix of reasons including GW releasing this may be a very popular choice (really? Who would have thought?). Gives them more time to work on things and allow a bigger initial release with more models etc.

So far the Warlord, Reaver and Questoris Knights have been 3D modelled for the new game. Warhound is currenty being worked on.

A game is expected to be around five titans of any class. You pick a type of Maniple, such as Scout, Assault or Battle and pick accordingly. This means you could have a game of five Warlords v five Warhounds. You then take the difference in the two sides and the weaker side then gets to spend those points on other things, I can’t remember the name now of them – Stratagems? Something like that.

About nine titans a side is about the limit you would reasonably want, unless you have the time spare.

The emphasis of the game is controlling you titans and making decisions such as power levels, ramping up your generator makes you faster, more powerful weapons and shields but has consequences. Your titan has a personality and may not like what you try and do with it. Basically as you get in the novels the Princeps has to keep control over something which may not want to relinquish control. So if you have a bloodthirsty, hunter type titan trying to back away from a fight might not be the easiest thing to do.

Terrain has been done as have Realm of Battle boards which the buildings can fit onto. These are at the factory already so should be ready to go when the game is released.

There is no great desire to redo Epic. While we may get more games at the same scale – such as a massed tank version there is no desire to see a combined titan/tank/infantry battle. Basically they don’t just want 40k at a smaller scale.

There is a chance, though it may be small, we see some of the models at the Heresy Weekender in a month’s time.

Blood Bowl

Season Two book is likely April-ish.

Plastic Ogre player will be out soon. There will also be a plastic Troll. They decided to do these in plastic as they can be taken in so many team.

Elf Union team is being worked on, Nurgle will follow after these hopefully later this year (October?). Also Goblin team in plastic, I think from memory these will come before the Elves. Goblins were a must for plastic as they can be taken on their own as well as being taken as members of other teams.

Expect at least one Star Player to follow with each team, some may get two. The Skaven star player (two heads, four arm guy) will be here soon. Season Two will have a lot of Star Players in there, some known and some who are new.

Neoprene pitches are a go. The human and Orc pitches have been done as the first ones have arrived at GW to look at and test out. Forgot to ask when these are likely to be out.

And on to the pictures.

Legio Custodes Transport (bloody huge) and the lovely Dread, especially the Halberd version:

Blood Bowl, Zone Mortalis and Twitter

Things are still packed over here, too much work, too little time.

However, as always is the way having no time to do do anything with models hasn't stopped me buying them.

Blood Bowl...

Ah, Blood Bowl, lovely, lovely Blood Bowl.

In the box is also Death Zone with the extra rules. In there is the Nurgle team, I will be waiting for those to arrive before really 'doing' a team. The human and Orcs in the box will just get built to get some games in. They'll stay in the coloured plastic they come in I think.

Zone Mortalis.

I've been sorting through my Adeptus Mechanicum models and sorted out the 500 point force I'll be working on over Christmas with the plan of getting them done for the Horus Heresy Weekender in February.

The force numbers seven models. Surely I can manage that? Especially when one is already built...

In the Blood Bowl order I also picked up the set of daftly named Haemotrope Reactors. I plan to use these as terrain in Zone Mortalis. I admit now I'm not a fan of the big AM skull panel and the Orky like exhaust things, they will definitely be left off.

Twitter.

So I've done something I never planned to do. I've joined Twitter. Not, I hasten to add, to follow vacuous celebrities and their ilk. When I was at Warhammer World for the 40k Open Days I got talking to someone whose work I admired but who no longer posts on his blog or on forums. He finds being able to put up the odd update on Twitter far easier.

It occurred to me that I might be missing out on the work by others, known or unknown to me, by not being on their.

So I signed up. And at that point I'm not sure what else to do. I'm guessing the next step is to start following people. Who is the question.

So if you know of anyone on Twitter who is worth following (hobby related...) please give me a heads up.

I plugged for @Rictus40k on there. As annoyingly someone already had the version without the '40k' bit added on, rather inconsiderate of them wasn't it?

Update: I've done my first tweet. Oh the excitement in the Recalcitrant Daze household is almost electric I tell you.

If you search #RecalcitrantDaze you should be able to find me. Or not. I don't really know what I am doing.

Forge World Open Day 2016 - Part 1 - Blood Bowl, Horus Heresy Marines & AM, Lord of the Rings

Part One of the coverage...New Stuff.

Blood Bowl:

Expect end of year release, we shouldn't have to wait long till we get a confirmed release date and price. As this is being released world wide through GW stores they have to build in 4 months to ship stock to Australia.

As such blame them for the time it is taking.

Warhammer Fest 2016 - Part One - Blood Bowl.

I will do a few posts covering today's event, starting with Blood Bowl...

Had a number of conversations with the team, especially Andy Hoare who put up with me going back about four times (though one conversation was mainly to do with Adeptus Titanicus). Thankfully he is a man with a lot of patience.

First up what I can remember:

The release is hoped to be end of the year.

Box set contains the first two teams, Orcs and Human in plastic.
The pitch is double sided with a Human pitch on one side and an Orc pitch on the other.
The rules have not been changed, they are the rules which has been around for a while now.

In total there will be six teams in plastic (Human, Orc, Skaven, Elf, Nurgle and Dwarf). Other teams will follow in resin. There is also likely to be resin conversion sets.

There will be more pitches which will also be double sided (Dwarf/Skaven & Elf/Nurgle) with more possible later including tournament specific ones.

They are looking at neoprene pitches but as yet they don't know, it comes down to cost and if they can get them in large enough quantities and other factors but it is something they would like to have.

Several expansions are mapped out including the first one covering seven more teams and league rules.

If all goes well Dungeon Bowl will also see the light of the day.

Onto the pictures...

Models first, the two teams from the box.
