Deathwing - 1

So for a change from the usual fair I am working on some Marines. As mentioned once or twice previously I aim to have a 1000 point Deathwing force for Zone Mortalis games. The intantion is that this force will be purely for ZM, eventually (once I have sorted a ZM board out) the bases will be done to match the floor tiles of the board.

In the short term I am just building these. I am away for a weekend later this month and I need to get this force (and more Daemons) built in time for it. As such don't expect any paint to appear on these just yet.

I started putting the Termies together a while back but only now with the first Contemptor assembled have I bothered to grab some shots and do a post on RD.

The force will break down as:

Belial (obviously)
Deathwing Knight squad
Deathwing Squad (using Dark Vengeance Termies)
Contemptor Dread w. Multi Melta & CCW
Contemptor Mortis Dread w. x2  Plasma Cannon

The Dark Vengeance squad have been put together. I still need to fill gaps, clean a few things up etc but that can wait till the other units are built. I did a couple of small conversions...

The Dark Vengeance squad includes two identical figures. I did a quick arm & storm bolter change as well as a couple of cosmetic chances so that they weren't completely identical.

The Assault Cannon termie had a weapon swap with the Ass Cannon being replaced with a Plasma Cannon. Something which should prove nasty in ZM.

The Deathwing Knights (and Belial) are pretty much straight out of the DW boxset. Still need to finish their builds as they lack certain things (like heads).

The first Contemptor is now built. The Mortis dread packs two Plasma Cannon. So the force as a whole packs three, with the amount of Termies I will face in the ZM games these will prove very handy.

Magnetised weapons, both for Weapon Destroyed results and because after
a couple of games I might decide to try a different loadout.

As you can see I used plenty of addition purity seals and brass etch on the Contemptor.

I prefer the look of brass etch icons over plastic ones from GW as they are far thinner that the thick plastic ones. On the other hand I hate using it as it is always a bitch to get it shaped so it fits and gluing it in place is a nightmare.

Next up is washing, cleaning up and assembling the second Contemptor.

Nurgle Helbrute / Dreadnought 6

So the bugger is done.

I gave him a coat of primer, touched up the odd thing, then gave him another coat.

Grrr.

So yeah, that's him done.

Should be looking at the Karrier tomorrow, though probably no update till Monday.

Though I do have a second Helbrute...

Nurgle Helbrute / Dreadnought 5

Well he is just about done.

The plan will be to give him a coat of primer tomorrow to show up anything that needs cleaning up.

First up got the CC arm done. Used a lamp to speed up curing of the GS, only to have it get to hot and the plate actually warped. Was a bit tricky to get it to fit.

Got the base to the stage before I added the dread:

He then got added and the base was finished off:

Close up of the base:

Last couple of shots:

So there should be one more update after I give it a spray and clean up any crap bits.

Nurgle Helbrute / Dreadnought 4

Not much left to do now...

The only things not glued now are the cover to the left arm and the whole thing to the base.

I decided to stay with the weapons as they are, so we still have a Multi Melta and a close combat arm. I was tempted to convert the CC arm but in the end I stayed with it.

The Multi Melta got hollowed out then Nurglified.

To bring in more varied texture I used LGS on the MM casing. You can still make out the banding, chaos arrows etc but it now has a rough texture which differs from the other textures used.

As you can see the right leg has also been done and now has a foot.

I used my sugar/glue on the front of the leg, along with attacking areas with the dremel as previous. Again bringing in different textures and looks.

The close combat arm has just been attached and gaps filled. Added some texture to the underside of the arm with some LGS.

So still need to do - top of the CC arm and the base. Also need to go round cleaning and touching things up.

After that it will be back to the Karrier...

Nurgle Helbrute / Dreadnought 2

I should of known I had underestimated how long i'd spend on this - 'a few days' was never going to be right.

One of the main reasons is I am still waiting for Wayland to post out an order which includes the part I will be using as the head. Until I get the head I can't glue the two halves of the body together so I am limited to how much I can do to the main body and legs.

The other reason is having to keep stopping to wait for GS to cure...I hate GS.

However I have done some more.

Rough in some areas still, will be sorted later (also note size of pictures make things look rougher than they are...).

He needs a head....

More to come in a day or two.
