The Fence Tale part 1

Before the fence men cometh

Nov 12th 2020, Huricane Eta sideswiped us oh so gently, and a tree fell in our front yard, Prior Post.

Eta also felled our neighbor palm tree on our fence, the tree was right where the cross piece is and remained there for 3 months, after Hubby propped up the tree, and the fence.
Bob refused to pay someone to fix all this and take down the tree, because it was the neighbors tree and the other neighbors fence, the one where the Jungle was show in  Prior Post HERE The people who own the fence, don't care if its down, they can't use their back yard anyway.
We have a pool and a dog so the fence has to be repaired.

After the first section was removed.

The owner of The Tree, said he would pay to remove the tree, because after 3 months he was getting an all new fence and they could not put his fence up without moving the tree. OUR LUCKY DAY..

Lucky becasue the tree removal was 200.00 and We had already gotten an estimate to remove the tree and put up our fence which was almost 500.00... see what I MEAN... cost the same but not from us
three sections removed

His fence guy said, we could piggy back on the new fence, and he would put up our sections for 300.00 after they finished the new fence, and that if there were good sections, we could have them put up since they were better than ours.

Three men started at 8 am on Thursday, the first thing they did was remove 3 sections of our fence, that left us with no fence to contain Beau, the dog. At 1:30 he came over and said, I am so sorry, we can't finish today, we need more equipment and will be back to morrow at 8 am.

We were left overnight with the fence wide open but they showed up the next day and the new/old fence is there and I got more exercise because I had to walk Beau more times.

the photos below are photos of the Jungle Out there while the fence was down and if you enlarge you can see Robert removing the old rotted fence.
Interest NOTE... My hubby is Robert
The fence estimator was Robert.
The Three men that put up the fence for us, Two of them were named Robert.

Invasive Beauty of Pothos

Above is our neighbors back yard, I took this over the fence. No one has been in that yard for 15 plus years. It has gone to Sub Tropic Jungle. Every tree is covered with 2 types of Pothos, the building is a shed with no access and to its right there is a house but we can no longer see it.
The photo below are the vines on OUR side of the fence. they must be hacked and pulled at least once a month. Bob has always kept them out of our yard.
His knees are bad and he can't keep up and refuses to hire someone.
they come under the fence, over the fence, through the fence and spread along the ground

Nature gone Wild! There milk is poisonous to the skin. and Yes, these are the ones you hang in your homes and sit on your table, and in fact I have one that hangs in my kitchen. I have to trim it once a month but it is contained in a pot.

the longer they grow, the older they get, the bigger the leaves grow... Its a jungle out there

Need I ask if this fits on Nature Friday?????

Pothos in Oak Tree -Caturday Art

On my morning walk, the sun enhanced the Marble Queen Pothos hanging from this oak tree.
The many varieties of Pothos are invasive in our tropical year round growing season, but they are beautiful. They can and do kill trees if not removed.
They also will give a rash like poison ivy if the milk from the vines gets on our skin.

it's caturday art day and Lunapic Made Me do this....it is not autumn here and we don't have autumn, but the edit made me think of autumn.

What Happens in Florida

Joining FFF (Final Friday Fiction) with Yamini and  with Nature Friday, with Rosy at LLB in Backyard.  All rolled into one post.

This is What happens in Florida if you take a potted plant that died and dump it in the corner of the fence, right behind a bush that hides the evidence of said dumping.

Many years ago, about 20, I think, my fellow team members at work sent me a live mixed plant garden. It had a few green leaves of pothos plant 1 small tiny tree thingy, ivy  and cut daisies.

I, of the black thumb,  neglected to water it and soon it traveled over the leafy trail into plant never-never land, and turned quite brown. NOTE: I thought it was DEAD and it would be ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

I forgot I live in the tropics.

.

soon, the tiny vine covered the bush, the leaves grew to HUGE leaves, the vines climbed the fence, they traveled to the top of the oak tree.

They wandered up the fence, not just one fence but 3 fences..

The man of the house, with many angry kind words, chided the woman, who dumped the plant, that climbed the bush, that climbed 3 fences and he cut back the vines.

And cut back The Vines.

And Cut Back The Vines,  and on and on over the years. He has chopped for 20 years.

What happens in Florida, stays here and stays here and stays here.

The good news 😜 is, as you can see in the first few photos, the wandering vines are quite lovely as they travel around the yard in the sun headed for fence number 4.

Alas! The Man Is Not Impressed with the lovely vine traveling. But that is another story.

Todays Photos taken In January of 2020....by the MadSnapper, who Madly dumped the dead plant and tried to hide the evidence.

Dew Drops On Nature Friday

While weighing myself on the scales in the kitchen, I felt a droplet hit my arm.
I water this plant every Saturday morning and all through the week, it drips from leaf tips and cuts where I trimmed it.

Dew Drops in my kitchen, makes me happy! I have noticed this plant never needs dusting, unlike fake plants .
Joining In Nature Friday from my kitchen.

This past Saturday, I put the 2 cups of water in the plant, and realized I had NOT swept the kitchen first which is my routine.
The dirt by the door got damp from dripping water, which when routine is followed.
My personal Mop Guy mops the kitchen, after I sweep dirt and dog hair.
This time the broom smeared and you know The Rest Of The Story

Handy Photo Bomber

Our Pothos in the kitchen corner is 5 feet long now and getting bigger and bigger. I have to trim it about once a month. I placed two pieces in my glass container full of water and they have grown 4 inches in a few weeks.. Just Because I could.

Just as I snapped the photo Bob reached out to turn on the faucet and photo bombed my pic. Of course the TV photo bomb is always there.

Pothos in the Sky

I mentioned last week, that Pothos house plants, if thrown in the Florida soil, will go wild.. Look High In the Sky at the top of the power pole.. That is a plant that was a small house plant. It is in our neighbors yard.

See the power line? that is how high it is. See the roots at the bottom right corner? that is the roots growing up the tree to what started as a tiny house plant.

Up close and personal, my Vanna Hand is to give perspective of the size of the leaves. This one is near the ground, the ones in the top of the tree, closer to the sun are Much Larger. We are sub tropics, with year round growing season. Everything grows bigger in Texas Florida

Epipremnum aureum - Pothos

Flash Lighting
It was still dark outside when the urge to snap hit me, The flash on the camera was as always not good. I grabbed the flashlight.

The only plant I don't kill is this Pothos, it has been hanging in the corner of my kitchen since 1989. Repotted by Bob, who is the green thumb person. He has repotted it 3 times in 27 years, it lives ON.

Warning, if you live in Florida and throw the trimmings out on the ground it will thrive and take over your yard and fence and even grow to the top of a tree. I know from Experience.

Teaser for tomorrows post, What is This?

Pothos Shadow Shot

A man sees in the world what he carries in his heart.- Johann Wolfgang Goethe, from "Faust"

Shadows In My Kitchen

Each afternoon, between 6 and 6:30, the sun is sinking in the West and makes these shadows on my kitchen wall. since the Pothos does not like direct light, I tilt the blinds to keep if off, but yesterday I took time to capture the golden light, Just For You...

The good news is, it only does this in the winter time, which is when we need the warmth and beauty... Hope this sun glow makes you feel as happy as it does me.

Sun Paintings In My Kitchen

Evening Sun paints my Pothos that hangs in the corner of the kitchen and is the cause of much happiness as i wait each day to see what it paints. I love the shadows on the wall.

The morning sun streams in the other window painting everything in sight. Each day it moves and paints something new.
A day without sunshine is like......

 well, night
