Rising Above the Stress and Fare Ye Well Chronopia!

 Hi!

I've worked myself into a bit of a rage over the revamped Chronopia and instead of stewing in it, I have decided to try and rise above it and cast any hopes of getting the beloved game that I hoped for to the abyss of lost causes.

I had really high hopes for Chronopia coming back into production after over 20 years and was super excited at the announcement but the ensuing months and first previews of digital sculpts and then artwork plunged me into disappointment and then neck beard levels of outrage up to the point that my wife (ever the voice of reason!) suggested I let it go as I was getting too emotionally invested in a game that wasn't even out yet. The original was my favourite and still is she says and not liking the new one is ok but it's not worth getting into such a state over.

An aptly named Wailer

Instead of raging hopelessly at what is increasingly looking like an incredibly passionate but woefully unprofessional fan project I've decided to step away from any hope of seeing Chronopia getting a revamp and will stick to the original and still best and only version.

I've raised my concerns with the games creators and will not be backing the kickstarter have left the facebook group and will leave it at that...

Having actually posted this has been an actual weight off my shoulders as I was becoming obsessed to a point that only a nerd can get obsessed to and on the plus side, Warzone Eternal is looking like it's going to be ace and I've been putting aside some pennies to back it when it launches so in the meantime, All the best!

Havok Meets Space Crusade

 Hi!

Just a quick post today as I've been really busy at work but did manage to play out a game or two!

I've been bodging together some really simple rules based on Space Crusade and Havok to allow me to play a super quick skirmish and gave it a bit of a try through the other night featuring Inquisitor Fisher and Geralt the Wolfbane encountering some marauding Orks in the slums of Freeport City.

For those who don't remember Havok, it was briefly released in the mid 90's by Blubird Toys in the UK and had a selection of prepainted miniatures and the odd vehicle. While the rules were super light, I did love the artwork which was very 2000AD and the figures themselves are rather good and sculpted by Bob Naismith no less so have a real Oldhammer vibe to them and I really need to pick up a few more at some point!

Using the Kommander's Manual (or rules leaflet) along with a selection of dice I've had lying around from various games, I quickly statted up a couple of characters and had a bash!

Essentially each character had two actions and to shoot or fight and perform armour saves had to roll a number of Havok dice to see how effective their action was. It's a super simple mechanic but worked fairly well but I decided to add a bit of oomph to it by rolling a red Space Crusade dice with the resulting number being Hero Points that allowed the good guys to add an extra Havok dice to their roll.

It was a really fun game but I need to work on giving each character some more individuality as at present they all have the same abilities. I eventually started rolling an old Sustained Fire dice from 2nd edition 40k when the heroes used a Hero Point with the resulting roll giving them 1,2 or 3 extra dice and the possibility of a fumble which removed one of their dice to spice it up further and it really worked well with Inquisitor Fisher blasting one Ork boy with a fusillade of Las Pistol Fire and allows for some really brutal close combat.

The further addition of a white Space Crusade dice to give the bad guys Villain Points gave them the opportunity to do some unexpected stuff themselves and resulted in Geralt getting badly beaten up by the Ork Boss.

Sadly my phone was running low on charge and I only managed to get a couple of photos but I plan on playing another session this evening and recording the results as well as posting the draft rules so folks can have a bash themselves it they like.

I'm planning on keeping playing around with the dice mechanics and rules themselves so the battle report may turn into a bit of a ramble into playtesting but we shall see how we get on!

In other news, I have a Chronopia post that I've been working on over the last few days following the release of the latest images that have been making the rounds on Facebook but am unsure if I should post it as I may be being a bit too critical. While I was super excited to hear that Chronopia was making a comeback, the more I see, the less I feel it's a viable project and that it's clearly a fan project with a bit of funding rather than a professional product.

If folks do want to know more, let me know and I'll try to reduce the wailing and gnashing of teeth and post my opinion on what we've seen thus far but in the meantime, All the best!

Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 107: Spider Swarm!

 Hi!

Following on from my swarm of Rats, I've now got a swarm of Spiders to menace my adventurers with, be it Fisher's Inquisition team or my Boar Company!

Now I fear and hate spiders so I was in a bit of a quandary as to how to represent the eight legged beasties in my games but after a bit of experimentation, I churned out eight of them using super sculpey.

Much like the rats, they're not very detailed but do the job for low level menaces for adventurers from throughout time and space and will be making a handy addition to my collection. Yes I know they're not anatomically correct for proper spiders but they're as accurate as I'm willing to sculpt them!

In other news, I have been struck by the very different approaches by two different companies who have the licenses for some of my favourite games, namely Res Nova with Warzone Eternal and Clockwork Publishing with Chronopia.

Without getting into the ins and outs of it all, I can't help but feel that Res Nova is developing a very professional approach that will have a tight focus on a small skirmish game and a kickstarter that should deliver just what they promise as everything we hear about the process has been professionally done with people who seem to know what they're doing. While it would be awesome to see lots of figures and artwork, I'm really pleased and reassured by the approach they're taking and feel a great deal of confidence that this new Warzone is going to be just my cup of tea!

Clockwork publishing on the other hand has been showing sneak peeks of digital renders for a while now and seem to be trying to cover everything from solo and coop gaming to skirmish to mass battle all in one go which I can't help but feel would be better suited to future releases rather than trying to jam it all in their first release. Similarly, the digital renders we've seen thus far aren't inspiring me with too much confidence. Yes digital sculpting allows for dynamic poses but just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done. Also the poses chosen for some have been awkward with ropey or soft detail. I can't help but feel they are trying to do too much and will end up pleasing no one but hardcore fans of the original, many of whom still prefer the old sculpts...

Only time will tell as to which will succeed and I really hope they both do but even without any physical product to show, I'm much more inclined to put my money towards Warzone Eternal than Chronopia.

But enough of my ramblings! Tomorrow will see another game of Planet 28 being played with Inquisitor Fisher venturing into the sewers beneath Freeport City in search of a nameless horror so until then, All the best!

Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 85: More Chronopia Previews

 Hi!

The folks over at the new Chronopia project have previewed a couple of new sculpts, this time Lotus Guard for the Elves of the Crystal Lotus!

Lotus Guard are the special units assigned to commanders and dignitaries within the Crystal Lotus and are armed with twin longswords.

I'm rather liking the dynamic sculpts but feel there's something not quite right about the flow of the fabric of their loincloth's but it may just be the angle of the render and will have to see what the actual miniatures are like. Either which way, I'm excited to see what other previews we can expect to see in the coming months, especially the Dwarves.

In other news, I'm busily sculpting and painting stuff for my upcoming game and am not sure if I'm going to get it done this evening or tomorrow but will get the battle report posted up on Sunday afternoon but in the meantime, All the best!

Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 71: Chronopia

 Hi!

Well I've just sat through the presentation by Uhrwerk Verlag on their new and updated Chronopia!

It's obvious that the team behind the game are really passionate about Chronopia and I'm really pleased to see that they are keen to stay true to the original game but introduce updates in line with the advancements in technology, specifically sculpting.

We got so see some sneaky peeks of the renders for the new miniatures as well as a few painted samples and it's looking really promising!

The images we've been getting to see have been mostly the Blackbloods, an empire ruled by Ogres and featuring Orcs, Goblins and Trolls but given a Middle Eastern vibe, doing away with the more usual Tolkienesque brutish and savage Bad Guy Orcs and Goblins and giving them a really rich and advanced culture of their own:

Trolls

I remember the old Chronopia Trolls were forced to wobble about on 25mm round bases as that was the only base size in plastic that was readily available back in the day and the renders look fantastic with more dynamic poses but staying true to the art.

Painted Trolls

The painted samples are rather nice but I would say they could really do with getting a professional painter for them as they're decent but a pro could really make them pop and draw more folks in who may want to get the figures just to paint but that's a minor niggle.

Orc Swordsmen

The Orcish Swordmen look fab and if you look closely, their musician is wielding a Lute! This is rather fantastic and really original and I really want to get one to paint!

Orc Swordsmen and Ogre

Similarly, the painted examples are nice but again I can't help but feel that they could do with some more professional painting and presentation but hopefully we'll see better paint jobs in the coming months.

Orc Alchemist

the Orcy Alchemist looks fun and I particularly like the lizard carrying his supplies and like these little extra elements we are seeing already.

From my scribbled notes, it's looking like there will be a Kickstarter by the end of the year (sadly nothing more definite as yet) with the plan being to release the Firstborn (humans), Blackblood Empire (ogres, orcs, goblins and trolls), Dwarves, Elves and Devout (evil monster summoning villains!) with there being an initial 5 troop choices being available from the kickstarter and if things go well, this will be upgraded to ten choices.

The miniatures are going to be available in boxes of troops and specialists and will be made of resin but will come with the units stat card and equipment cards too. They are also really keen to emphasise that the game is going to be supported with monthly releases of miniatures and regular expansions (mention has been made of the North and the Sons of Kronos and the Swamp Goblins of the South)

Rules wise, they are reworking the original rules which I'm really pleased to hear as Chronopia is a brilliant ruleset and despite being over twenty years old, I still a really dynamic system that was well ahead of its time and will be great to play again!

Unit Cards

What is really exciting about the game is that they are designing it with scalability in mind, there will be four sized forces, Heroic Skirmish with 5-7 figures and a game lasting 30 minutes, Patrol with two units a side or about 15-20 figures, Medium or Classic which has 30-40 a side and a game lasting up to two hours and finally a mass battle option with possibly hundreds of figures a side.

I'll be interested to see how this works out but they seem to have some really interesting ideas for the smaller skirmish with individual figures acting as heroes fighting their way through mobs of enemies.

They also have a built in solo option which is great too and there are apparently going to be 648 different scenarios to play (6 basic scenarios, each with different deployment types and secret missions). This will ensure that the game has lots of playability in it from the get go.

There has also been mention of a basic and advanced version of the game which I'm guessing harks back to the difference between heroic skirmishes and mass battle with streamlined rules to keep things moving or a bit more crunch for small scenario driven games.

From the presentation, they are also clear that they want to really establish the first five factions and then expand with new factions (Sons of Kronos, Swamp Goblins and Stygian) and possibly introduce entirely new forces we've never seen before. The world of Chronopia has been described as vast so there's a huge scope to really delve into a thoroughly original setting and forces and I'm eagerly awaiting further updates which I will of course share here!

What I'd really like to see though is more content on the CHRONOPIA WEBSITE with artwork, miniatures (even if they're just renders!) or fiction. With a market that has dozens of fantastic Fantasy wargames, Chronopia deserves attention but if there's nothing for folks to see and get excited about, it may struggle to get said attention.

Hopefully we shall have an update from Warzone Eternal in the next day or so and I'll be able to enthuse about that too but in the meantime, All the best!

Lockdown 2.0 Day 54: Fantasy Battles

 Hi!

I had planned on rummaging out my copy of Crucible to have a bit of a delve into the background and search for inspiration but I seem to have lost my copy so I've ordered a replacement from Ral Partha Europe.

I've also discovered Warhammer Renaissance which claims to combine the streamlining of the later edition of Fantasy Battle with the entertaining characters, magic and equipment of 4th/5th edition so I'm going to do a bit of a rummage through if it is something that may be of interest to my own project for some 15mm scale fantasy shenanigans.

I must admit that the excitement of the sneak peek of a new edition of Chronopia has totally distracted me though as I'm now on tender-hooks to find out more, especially coupled with the news of Warzone getting a release later in the year too!

The only downside of these sneaky peeks is that there's no real details on either game yet so theres only so much one can froth about without getting any more information! It's a bit frustrating but I'll persevere and will find out more for Chronopia within the next month and hopefully we shall get another Res Nova update for Warzone soonish as well!

In the meantime, All the best!

Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 53 Supplemental: Chronopia and Warzone

 Hi!

I found myself drawn back to post again today because 2021 may well be shaping up as a great year gaming wise with two of my favourite games getting re-released after twenty plus years of inactivity or in the case of Warzone, an edition I just didn't find appealing.

Both Chronopia and Warzone were absolutely iconic games for me for the brief period they were available from 1995-2000ish. The artwork, the setting, the rules and the figures were all groundbreaking back in the 90's when the only other company in town was GW (for the most part!) and hold a special place in my wargaming memories and still have an impact now.

I'm really excited for the opportunity to relive the glory days of the 90's and do like what I've seen thus far, even if it's only been some hints and a handful of pictures. While the sculpts are digital, they are stylised and match the original concept art rather than super realistic which is really heartening.

I've been floating around looking for a game to invest in and lo and behold the two games that have had the biggest impact on me are both getting a reboot. I'll be interested to see how the rules themselves come out and whether they can keep the spirit of the original whilst developing new and fascinating concepts but at the very least, I hope to be able to use the miniatures from these new games to play the old rulesets that I have such fond memories of.

What really is exciting, especially from a hobbyists perspective is that each game has such a brilliant background that they really inspire me to delve into making scenery and each faction for the games are unique enough for me to want to collect them all and better yet, each game only requires small forces so it should be easily doable on a modest budget.

I'll have to see how things go and I'm looking forward to finding out more information on each and while the teasers have been really great to see, I really want to get more, be it pictures of miniatures, concept art or whatever!

If things go well and the games come out later this year, I will start delving into the worlds of Warzone and Chronopia!

Lockdown 2.0 Project Log Day 53: Chaos War Priest and Mordheim Terrain (and Chronopia too!)

Hi!

I've been working on some Mordheim themed stuff today and have finished a few odds and ends in the form of a Chaos War Priest and some terrain!

First up, there's Dieter, a scabrous sort of a fellow and self styled Bishop of the Wizened Hand.

Armed with a stick with a blacked and mummified hand on the end, Dieter is a crotchety old geezer who uses the Wizened Hand to thrash non-believers with. Unsurprisingly he's not a popular sort in the settlements around the ruined city but has recruited a small band of equally unhinged followers of the less salubrious sort and has entered Mordheim in search of his destiny.

Originally a Bishop of Chaos from the Ral Partha Chaos Imperium range, I replaced his original staff with some plastic gubbins as I didn't really like his war crook thingy. I also attempted to go for a really limited palette for him and quite like how he turned out. I do need to do a bit more to his base, possibly adding some slimy gribble to give that really run down look but he'll do for the moment. I think I have a couple more figures from the pack lying around somewhere and will need to get them painted too.

Next up, there's some more terrain in the form of a ubiquitous ruin for Mordheim or any other skirmishy type of game I find appealing:

It was a quick and messy build, more intended to give me some terrain quickly but I quite like how it's turned out. I've got another two primed and ready to paint and will post some pics of them when I've got them finished.

Made from Foamcore and cardboard, it was a bit of a learning experience for me as it's the first time I've used Foamcore and after a bit of fuming about how long PVA was taking to dry I used hot glue which speeded up things considerably. I followed the guidelines from Nigel Stillman's Mordheim architecture article from an old White Dwarf but used mounting board for the base as it's a bit sturdier and less likely to bend when I put a bit of glue on it.

I'm hoping to make a few more odds and ends in the coming days to build up the terrain collection as I go!

In other news, I've rebased my 15mm scale Dwarves and prefer the finish of the browns to the lurid green I had originally. This is something I still don't really like about the original Old/Middlehammer style as I just cannot seem to get it to look right.

Finally, there seems to be some rumblings on Chronopia getting a re-release!

This rather enigmatic post got put up on facebook today and there looks like there's a new logo and some digital sculpts too. Alas there's no information other than there's going to be an announcement in March.

Now if 2021 is seeing both Warzone and Chronopia making a comeback I'm super excited as both settings and games are fantastic but we shall have to wait and see what further news makes an appearance but I'm finding myself really hoping to be able to get some of my favourite games back into print in some form or the other!

We shall have to see how things develop but in the meantime, All the best!

Lockdown Day 62

Hi!

I had intended to post up either the next installment of my Battletech Alphastrike campaign or show some pics of my latest sculpts but have been somewhat distracted by pondering on the possibilities of playing more games using the papercraft approach.

Whilst it's certainly not ideal as there's something really pleasing about having proper painted figures in whatever scale trundling around the table as it gives a visual hit that paper cannot, my recent success with playing five Battletech Alphastrike games in short order with twenty mechs all told at the cost of an hour or two of drawing cannot be sniffed at.

Over the years I have fallen foul of the Ooh Shiny Syndrome where I see a range or game that I like the look of and spend amounts of money on them only to not get them painted. Whilst the Lockdown has seen me paint my way through some of this, there are games that I'm really keen to explore but the cost of figures or indeed the difficulty of getting ahold of them is a decided issue.

Whilst out for our daily allotted socially distanced walk I had mentioned this to my wife and she suggested that I should make more of the cardboard standees for short term use and if I liked the game, I could then slowly replace them with my own sculpts.

This struck me as a rather good idea and I have decided to roll with it and see what games I have that I'd love to play but on a super tiny budget during the Lockdown. A little bit of rummaging later, I have settled on trying out this approach on a handful different games. The plan is to draw up a small force for some of the factions available and use the process to get a feel for the rules and possibly even play out a small campaign with them as I have done with my Battletech stuff.

This approach will hopefully see me playing a bunch of games, some of which I played back in the day and others which I have the rules for but never had chance to game.

While this may not be everyone's cup of tea, and to be honest, I would prefer to have lots of miniatures to paint but beggars can't be choosers. On the plus side, I hope to use the process to work out how I'm going to sculpt my own bits and bobs.

The games I plan on trying out are as follows:

Now I know that Kryomek and Void 1.1 are available but I want to try playing a game or two with my papertech stuff as the sculpts just don't appeal to me. Warzone is a brilliant game but getting the figures is pretty difficult these days so a papertech approach seems to be a good way to get some games in and speaking of an out of production game that the figures are hard to find, Chronopia is up there as one of my favourite games that I've not played in about 20 years now and getting figures for it that aren't covered in leadrot is really difficult.

I plan on spending an hour or two tomorrow morning putting together an initial clash with two small forces as well as finishing my Battletech Alphastrike game and working on some more sculpts so watch this space!

Don't panic though! I will be regularly posting pics of actual painted miniatures as well as I see this approach as a gateway into playing and enjoying games whilst sculpting all manner of interesting things for my own enjoyment.

I suspect that 2020 will see the end of my buying figures and me really sinking my teeth into sculpting my own stuff as it is just so much more enjoyable than working on other folks stuff.

In the meantime, All the best!

A Guide to Forgotten Games Part 2

Hi!

Following on from my previous post, I thought I'd post some more of the forgotten games from my collection that in days gone by I really enjoyed but are now largely forgotten.

Star Mogul

Star Mogul was originally produced by Alpha Forge Games in the US and it grabbed my attention with the quirky miniatures that were produced to go along with it. The game itself is set in our future when humanity has colonised a fair chunk of space but an ancient alien pathogen has wiped much of the frontier worlds out. Over a century later, salvage crews have begun exploring these lost worlds and fighting each other to gather the riches they find.

One of the things I really liked about Star Mogul was the fact that it wasn't super soldiers fighting gribbly aliens but working joes eking out a living on the frontier in a new gold rush amongst the stars.

That's not to say there weren't any aliens in the game. The supplements brought in the Hydrassians, Asteroid Miners, Android Cults and Mephelians, each with their own motivations and rewards for scrap recovery.

Looking back, it kind of reminds me of a cross between Necromunda and Gorkamorka but without the fantasy elements. Sadly the game went out of production when Alpha Forge was sold off. There was a brief hope of a revamp when Mega Minis took over production and a revised edition was produced of the rules (I still prefer the original though as the artwork on the new one just didn't do it for me!).

Alas, Mega Minis closed its doors and Star Mogul faded into obscurity again. Its not all lost though as I have uploaded the original rulesets onto Scribd so you can download them and have a bash at gaming out some small skirmish actions in a ruined future!

While the alien races may be a tad harder to proxy, the human salvage teams are fairly easy to rework using pretty much any sci-fi range out there and I'd highly recommend at least downloading the rules and having a peruse as they contain some really nifty ideas for games at the smaller end of the scale.

I must admit that I've always intended to someday collect up an X12 Android Cult so that the AI's can fight for their freedom from human control!

Kryomek

Kryomek was one of the first games I picked up post GW and I loved the Aliens vibe that the artwork and background had but found the rules a bit clunky and uninspired.

I must admit that I have mixed feelings about the game as the setting is decent and the artwork on show is petty great and really sets the scene for humanity to discover it is not alone amongst the stars. A hive mind of an alien intelligence called the Kryomek is living out there and promptly attack forcing the two races into a war of extermination amongst the cold outer worlds.

While the setting really gets one interested, the rules themselves aren't fantastic and as is the case with several of the smaller rulesets, the game hasn't been well playtested or proof read as there are gaping holes in it that need sorting out.

Fantasy Forge did try to sort this out by releasing Hivestone which fleshed out the setting a bit and provided points costs and armylists but I firmly believe that Kryomek as it was could really have done with being produced in 15mm scale to cover the grand sweeping battlefield with hordes of Kryomek trying to overwhelm the firepower of  Nexus marines.

Now it may sound like I'm trashing Kryomek here, but its worth downloading the rules from Scotia Grendel (They're free too!) as they make for interesting reading for a setting and the Kryomek are a nice alternative to the likes of the Tyranids for 40k or Xenomorphs for alien type games. I must admit that I'd love to see Kryomek being re-released as a proper skirmish game featuring a squad or two of humans against alien menaces as they try to clear out a hive or settlement ala Aliens!

Chronopia

Ah Chronopia! Possibly my favourite fantasy game!

Produced by Target Games, the same company which brought us Warzone, Chronopia was a cracking game with innovative rules and a grimly compelling setting. It was also a game of large shoulderpads which some folks were put off with but I loved the over the top styling of the assorted races.

The Elves wielded massive axes and the humans all looked a bit chaotic with their oversize plate and chunky weapons. The Dwarves were fantastic and animalistic whilst the Orcs, or Blackbloods as they were known were actually pretty civilised!

I fondly remember collecting up and painting a Dark Tusk Dwarf force and avidly reading the rulebook and subsequent forcebooks that were released and I was really saddened when Target closed down and Chronopia was relegated to the dustbin of forgotten games.

There was a brief last huzzah when a US company gained the rights for a while but it too folded and Chronopia vanished once again. Even the miniatures are virtually impossible to get hold of now as they were terribly prone to lead rot and I've not found any over the last few years which haven't suffered from that complaint making collecting a force rather a difficult prospect.

Over the last few months, I must admit that I've been thinking of trying to put together some proxy forces for the game but the unique styling of most of them has thus far proved a difficult obstacle to overcome and I am having to face facts that if I want to make a proper go of it, I am going to have to sculpt the stuff myself.

This isn't too serious an issue but it is very time consuming so I have no idea when I will actually have the chance to complete such an ambitious idea!

Crucible

Crucible is another of the games produced by FASA briefly before it shut up shop but I always found it rather an intriguing game. It centres around the discovery of a new continent and the scramble to colonise it and exploit its resources by the various fantasy races who inhabit Ashkelon.

The setting itself is rather good and the races have been changed enough to move away from the usual fantasy tropes. The Elves are all a bit cruel and perverse, the humans are ruled by an eternal woman, the Orcs are noble savages defending their homelands from imperialist invaders and the Dwarves are homeless vagrants. The list goes on but needless to say, it's a really great source of inspiration by itself.

The rules themselves are really very good and cover different formations and from the few times I played it, work really well and would even give the best editions of Fantasy Battle a run for their money. What let it down, other than going out of production within six months with the closure of FASA, was the miniatures!

The sculpts were a bit of a mixed bag with some really nice sculpts alongside some truly awful ones, plus the fact that no unit had more than two sculpts making for an annoyingly repetitive look. That being said, it is fairly easy to proxy pretty much every unit type so it's another game I fancy having a re-explore of this year (if I can find my copy which I seem to have mislaid!)

Whee!

Well I've listed a few of the games I hope to spend a bit of time with over the coming months and I am sure I will find more as I go through my collection and I am hoping to use the opportunity to paint some stuff, game a bit and actually enjoy my hobby!

In the meantime, All the best!

Dwarves

Hi!

Well I am still working through the stuff that's been sat primed on my desk for far too long and have just finished a couple of Heartbreaker Dwarven crossbowmen.

 Crossbows Ready!

They are some of my favourite Dwarf sculpts with the long noses, rather unkempt beards and bulky form and I'm rather glad I persevered and finished them off.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Dwarves as they were the first and only army I collected and painted for Warhammer and later I had a cracking little warband of Chronopia Dark Tusks too. Sadly both forces went in one of my purges when I went off to university but I do have one or two figures lying around.

Dwarven Force

Now I have no intention of collecting or painting anything as mental as a Warhammer army as it took me a couple of days just to paint two of the little guys but I am wondering about proxying up some Chronopia forces as I loved the game and setting.

Sadly I seem to have lost my rulebook collection during my last house move so I will need to see if I can find some replacements along the way. Fortunately I do have a PDF of the main rulebook so can make do for the time being.

We shall see how things progress but I have enjoyed working on them and getting them finished which has been the main thing!

In other news, I have also been slowly painting up a True Atronian warband for Zombiesmiths rather fantastic War of Ashes Shieldbash rules:

True Atronians

I highly recommend getting a copy of the Shieldbash rules as they are fantastic and the world and it's inhabitants are great fun too. For more info, check out either ZOMBIESMITH or my SOMEWHERE ON THE BORDER blog!

I don't seem to be having much consistency painting wise at the moment as I flit from figure to figure but I am painting stuff and enjoying it and that is all that matters!

All the best!

Still Alive!

Hi!

Well its been a few weeks since I last posted anything. I've started writing a few articles on and off over the period but have deleted them in frustration. I suspect I have hit a bit of a painters block again which is a bit of a bind as I have several mini projects I would like to be getting on with such as my 2nd Edition 40k Ork army or my Syntha which have all languished for some time at various stages of completion.

The problem is that nothing that I have looked out to start painting over the course of the last few weeks has inspired me at all. Part of the problem has been that I have found myself almost irresistibly drawn the the classic Target Games ranges.

I'm talking about 1st edition Warzone and Chronopia. Both are fantastic rulesets, rich with background and flavour but both are now sadly out of production, the miniatures ranges associated with them similarly hard to track down. To make matters worse, the metal used for said miniatures had something in it that caused many of the surviving figures to come down with a bad case of lead rot making them pretty much unusable.

Yes some of them are still available from Prince August or ebay but I am loath to buy any of them as I fear I won't actually paint them. As with so many of the ideas I have flitting around at the moment, the prospect of actually painting anything is leaving me cold.

Maybe its just another patch of hobby blues but my usual solution of picking something utterly at random and painting it just isn't working and I am at a loss what to do. Maybe I should just take a bit of a longer break from painting but I suspect that I will feel much the same in a months time...

Apologies for the rambling on and hopefully my painting mojo will return with a bit of work but in the meantime, All the best!

Fallen Knights

Hi!

Just a quick update to show some completed Fallen Knights!

Fallen Knights

Originally from Chronopia, they will be seeing service as Chaos Warriors for Warhammer and Fallen Knights for Leviathan. I actually picked them up a couple of years back from a bargain bin in my local gameshop in Gosport (sadly now closed) and wish I had a few more as they paint up quite nicely and a full regiment of them would be rather nice...

Painters Progress June

Hi!

Well June was a rather productive month painting wise for me! Heres a picture of everything I got finished:

June Painted Figure Haul

19 figures completed from five different manufacturers and covering sci-fi and fantasy which isn't too bad! Hopefully I will be able to beat the total this month and as I have about 20 Sons of Kronos miniatures which are needing a bit of tlc, not to mention more Four A figures and an assortment of sci-fi gubbins half done I am hopeful that I will be able to break the total again!
In other news I am trying to sort out my Sons of Kronos army for Chronopia as at present I have quite a few elite units ranging from Hearthguard to Viridian Lords and Blade Sisters but more core choices such as clan warriors and slingers are currently missing from the force.

I did notice that Brigade Models is starting its summer sale season which hopefully will include Celtos as their barbarian range would make ideal additions to the force. Sadly I am having to curb my enthusiasm as my budget is small but I may pick up one or two pieces if the offer is good enough!

All the best!
