Dwarves

Hi!

Well I am still working through the stuff that's been sat primed on my desk for far too long and have just finished a couple of Heartbreaker Dwarven crossbowmen.

 Crossbows Ready!

They are some of my favourite Dwarf sculpts with the long noses, rather unkempt beards and bulky form and I'm rather glad I persevered and finished them off.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Dwarves as they were the first and only army I collected and painted for Warhammer and later I had a cracking little warband of Chronopia Dark Tusks too. Sadly both forces went in one of my purges when I went off to university but I do have one or two figures lying around.

Now I have no intention of collecting or painting anything as mental as a Warhammer army as it took me a couple of days just to paint two of the little guys but I am wondering about proxying up some Chronopia forces as I loved the game and setting.

Sadly I seem to have lost my rulebook collection during my last house move so I will need to see if I can find some replacements along the way. Fortunately I do have a PDF of the main rulebook so can make do for the time being.

We shall see how things progress but I have enjoyed working on them and getting them finished which has been the main thing!

In other news, I have also been slowly painting up a True Atronian warband for Zombiesmiths rather fantastic War of Ashes Shieldbash rules:

True Atronians

I highly recommend getting a copy of the Shieldbash rules as they are fantastic and the world and it's inhabitants are great fun too. For more info, check out either ZOMBIESMITH or my SOMEWHERE ON THE BORDER blog!

I don't seem to be having much consistency painting wise at the moment as I flit from figure to figure but I am painting stuff and enjoying it and that is all that matters!

All the best!

Progress Of Sorts!

Hi!

Well I'm back from a very busy few days of work and have settled down to get a little bit of painting done this evening and try to get to the halfway point in my first Dwarf regiment but thought I would post a bit of an update on the gubbins I've been working on over the last few days when I've managed to snatch a few minutes to paint!

First up, I have finished a couple more SD figures complete in the form of a rogue Mage and an evil minion:

Mage and Minion

I've also taken advantage of ZOMBIESMITH'S summer sale to pick up a few bits and bobs for War of Ashes Shieldbash:

I've blogged about the assorted fantastic alternative style figures that some companies are producing at the moment before and after a great deal of procrastination, decided to pick up some True Atronian's in the form of a Command, Skirmish and Gromal pack. I love the whole dark age muppet look of the miniatures and their Dark Crystal sort of vibe and can't wait for the figures to arrive so I can have a bash at painting them.

As my latest projects don't really fit with the rest of the content with this blog, I am porting the whole lot over onto my SOMEWHERE ON THE BORDER blog so I can keep Tales From Farpoint more traditional Warhammer Fantasy/Rogue Trader themed.

I plan on keeping developing the alternative Imperium here as well as Aeroth on this blog but will be using Somewhere on the Border as a chance to develop something a bit different which will incorporate my own gubbins, War of Ashes, Relics and World of Twilight miniatures to boot!

Hopefully I will be able to get some bits and bobs finished this evening for a bit of Warhammer/ Kings of War/ Skirmish related gubbins and will post some pics tomorrow at some point but in the meantime, All the best!

Properly Original Stuff!

Hi!

I've posted some bits and bobs over the last few weeks of some of the games I have found inspiring over the years but here's a few really original miniatures ranges that I am sorely tempted to explore:

Relics as a game has been around for a few years now but it was only recently that I happened across some of their range on Facebook and I must say they look amazing!

Taking a quick peek at the current factions, there's some fantastic looking stuff available, with several more factions being developed:

First up there's the Nuem, which look like bionic Dwarves or Gnomes and have a selection of cracking looking sculpts ranging from near naked fanatics with missing limbs to ball like automatons and big, chunky fellows like this chap:

Nuem

Next, there's the Orcnir, a savage cross between Orcs and Trolls with odd, rocklike protuberances and a really savage looking range of miniatures to match!

 Orcnir Warband

The Vaettir are creepy looking faerie like race that look more Grimms Fairy Tales than the Disney sort and also have access to elemental beings of all sorts.

Lastly, there's the Britanan Empire, a patchwork bunch of voodoo like dolls which combine creepy and cute with a rather pleasingly period British army vibe:

That's not all though!

War of Ashes and Shieldbash are a really lovely range of miniatures available from Zombiesmith (producers of the well known Quar range)

Its another range of figures I have found over the course of the last couple of months and I must admit I do like what I see:

Jaari

The Jaari look like the beasties from the movie Critters but crossed with an Imperial Roman legion.

The True Antronians

How about the True Antronians, a cross between muppet and Amazon!

 Evlodrix

The Elvodrix look like a super cute combination of Chewbacca, Cousin It and a viking!

Vidaar

How about some Muppets with maces?

Kuld

How about an anthropomorphic tortoise without a shell?

I don't know what it is about the range but I do love the sheer quirkiness of the lot of them, there's so much charm to the range that it is really difficult to resist!

But there's more!

The World of Twilight is another rather well established range of miniatures with its own set of rules that has been around for a while but seems to have avoided my notice till recently!

Just look at the character that the miniatures have! Theres a bit of a Dark Crystal sort of vibe to the range that I really love! I am not sure to the background but looking at the figures, I am interested in finding out more!

Each of the ranges I have highlighted have their own rules but I don't know which, if any, I would go for as all three ranges are just too interesting to ignore!

Maybe it's time I explored some of them and picked up one or two interesting bits and bobs from each and gave them a shot at painting as well as writing a bit of a review on what I find.

I can imagine combining all three ranges and creating some unusual scenery to create a really original world!

I shall have to see what I can come up with but this post has really whetted my appetite for some non human or traditional fantasy fare! Are there any other ranges out there thats a bit unusual that folks have found? If so give me a shout as I'd love to see some other interesting bits and bobs!
All the best!
