The Battle of Cape St Quendon

As has seemingly become an annual event, I travelled up to the Herts Volunteers to put on a large Sails of Glory game.  This year’s game was loosely based on the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797 which saw both HMS Victory and Nelson featuring albeit not together.  Here are some photos from the game:

As with the historical engagement the game was a victory for the British.

Battle of Ushant 1778

In the latter part of last year I popped over to the Herts Volunteers to put on our annual Sails of Glory game.  This year I decided to do something a little earlier than the usual Napoleonic engagement largely so I could get HMS Victory onto the table.  I picked part of the First Battle of Ushant in July 1778.

Here are some photos from the game:

Sails of Glory

In the vein of catching up on some missed posts, I hadn't posted anything about a large game of Sails of Glory that a friend of mine suggested putting on at the Herts Volunteers club.  Between us we have a decent collection of ships (and mine has grown since) and the game is really easy to pick up.  We didn't include all the optional rules as, I think, all the players were new to the system but we did include the variable wind direction.  Here are some photos of the game:
