More Frostgrave Skeletons

Final five from the Oathmark box

That's probably enough for Frostgrave for now. Though I do fancy a few more to expand my OGAM force to Dragon Rampant or Midgard size...

Frostgrave: Hunt for the Golem - Attack Site

With the eldest boy returned from University and Covid playing havoc with meeting plans we found we had time for a little family Frostgrave.

I was hoping we'd get to play the complete Golem campaign but last minute itinerary changes means it looks like this may in fact be the only game in the Frozen City.

I decided to switch things up and take the Thaumaturge I painted a while ago - the boys stuck with their tried and tested Necromacer (eldest) and Elementalist (younger) - not least because I only recently painted up new models for just such an eventuality.

The site of Golem based destruction. Insufficient corpses (we'd need 15!) meant I used pennies to indicate the mangled entrails of less successful warbands

Gretty Babel thaumat-urges her men into the killing zone.

While her apprentice Lyrna Moy is well protected.

The Necromancer's "kill squad" picked a fight over by the well.

Lyrna wisely kept her distance.

The Elementalist kept finding wounded men. Then ignoring them in favour of more treasure.

"Excuse me while I step over this semi-frozen almost dead bloke"

The  battle was going, ahem, "well" for the Necromancer as Barbra Ian the Barbarian sliced up the Infantryman.

With a thief helpfully pointing out the target the crossbowman took aim.

Meanwhile my Man at Arms was making off with a suit of armour.

Barbra and the Hound have thinned out Gretty's lads.

But the torch-lad holds firm.

 Eventually however he was extinguished.

Meanwhile the Elementalist had run off with most of the treasure - although the Necromancer found the Top Secret Golem Instruction Manual.

A good fun little game - mostly spent remembering how the rules work and looking up spell effects.

Frostgrave Skeletons

Six skeletons to haunt the frozen wastes of Felstad.

Made from the splendid Oathmark Skeletons set. Need some snow on the bases, but we'll get to that when I've painted another five.

Frostgrave Wizards

For my birthday the Gaming Heir (retd.) bought me a box of the Frostgrave plastic wizards.

So I made a couple of them up as a Necromancer and an Elementalist to lead their warbands (meaning I can reclaim the Fire Wizard and Oathmark Necromancer for games of Warhammer and Dragon Rampant.)

Lovely models to put together and paint.

Frostgrave Wraith

I needed a wraith for Frostgrave. I really like the official model but I have no need of the vampire at the moment and also I happen to have several of the GW Ringwraiths in the lead pile. I actually have nine fully painted ones for LotR games (in fact I think I have ten in total as I also have the Khamul the Easterling model to leas my Easterlings) so they are very definitely spare. So this one was ideal for adding to the frozen city.

Simple drybrush and wash job then a bit of snow on the base - ready to stalk Felstad.

Frostgrave Necromancer and Apprentice

The Frostgrave campaign highlighted the fact that I had never got round to finishing off the Wizard and apprentice for the Necromancer warband. The original choice of Necromancer had fallen from favour and I briefly toyed with ordering the official model - which is one of the best in the range and I need to get at some point - but then remembered I already had one from the Oathmark range - I picked up the metals when I ordered the Skeletons box.

I've not based him because ideally I'd like him to lead the Midgard/Dragon Rampant/OGAM skeleton forces - which will mean mud and static grass.

The apprentice is a kitbash of the Gripping Beast Arab models with a few Frostgrave bits and pieces and a Warhammer skull.

Contrast paints got the job done quick.

Frostgrave Soldiers - a Thug and Two Thieves

After the Total Party Kill of my first Frostgrave game I was in need of extra thieves and thugs as all the expensive soldiers had died and I had no gold to replace them.

So some quick assembly and painting and these three rolled off the production line.

The thieves made substantial use of Contrast paints - speeding things up no end.

They've all I think subsequently died in following games - but they're Thugs and Thieves, so who cares!
