Another four player Warhammer The Old World Game

After a pause to watch Wigan and Castleford play The Greatest Game and refuel on pizza we started a fourth game.
I again took Ogres, this time allied with the High Elves of Spandex - despite the fact that as everyone knows he only *ever* plays with Skaven. Instead Kenton would take the Ratty hordes (mainly because Stephen thinks they are broken in WTOW and he wanted to see if they were all that). Stephen himself took Beastmen, including some really horrid Mierce Miniatures models.

By this stage we had been drinking for many hours and so my memories are a little hazy and many of the photos I took were, for some reason blurry and out of focus.

The Ogres march to war!

In the pay of the Noble High Elves (who wanted them to do the beastly business of fighting)

Stephen pulled his Cockatrice out and waved it around.

Tiny Wee Dragon Ogres from days gone by get stuck in to their less chaotic brethren.

Dragon Princes got caught by the verminous hordes.

That's all I could salvage I'm afraid.

I think I lost. But as always Warhammer was the real winner!

Warhammer The Old World Four Player Game

Having collected young Spandex from the futuristic travel of the hovercraft and fortified ourselves with a fry up and line dancing (it's an IoW thing) it was time for Morehammer.

We'd decdided once more that a simple stand up fight would be tough enough without T&Ting things, so 1500 points each was the order of the day for 3,000 a side. I took Ogres allied with Khorneton's Khaosmen. Opposing us Spandex took control of my Empire (as they were left out from the night before) - this despite the fact that it is well known that he as only ever owned and played with Skaven for his entire life. Stephen took Bretonnians.

Then we all took some ale (well, red wine in my case)

The Ogre and Chaos Allies form up

A solid centre of Warriors - green uns and red uns.

A mixed cavalry wing - with the Bretonnians no doubt sneering at the Empire men.

The Chaos force lumbers forward.

The stout spears of Wissenland stand ready. Hoping they don't soil their pristine white trews.

The Mournfangs slam home. Turns out they're just as good as they used to be.

A lance tries to prick the Nurgle boil.

Other Bretonnian knights find the Ogres tough going.

Aha! A flank charge!

Still standing firm.

The Middenheim hammer men hold the hilltop

The Nurgle lads hold the lance long enough for the cavalry to arrive.

But it isn't all going the Ogres way.

However the Khorne blokes have hit the Empire line

With the hill cleared and the right flank destroyed the noose is closing on the remaining men.

A fairly comprehensive win for the Chaos and Ogre force.

Warhammer The Old World Three Player Game

Fortified with a tasty curry and a few pints of Cobra we settled down to another gentle game. This time a two on one game with Khorneton fielding 2,000 points of Warriors of Chaos against an allied Wood Elf and Empire army.

No T&T to complicate things, just a stand up fight.

The field of War(hammer). The foul and bloated things of Khaos have Khastled in the Khorner

Now don't that look luvverly

Trolls as well as Chaosmen

A cavalry wing ready to sweep down on the vile worshipers of 50% of the Dark Powers.

The Chaos lads get moving.

And are met with a storm of fire and much rejoicing from the humans and their pointy eared chums.

Where's that Chariot off to...?

Hold men, hold...

A cunning ruse to distract the mad axe wielding red angry men of Chaos.

An eagle's eye view

Oh, *that's* where the chariot was going.

Meanwhile the trolls go to work.

But are held by the Wissenland Whitespears!

Alas the cunning distraction technique just pulled the red angy axe wielding Chaos men into a place where they could better charge the swordsmen of Middenheim.

The Helblaster having misfired then took a charge.

And the Khorne lads duly did their job.

With the chariot demonstarting that stag riders are not so much a glass hammer as a glass glass. And then doing much the same to the knights the game was up for the forces of good and the Ruinous powers held the field!

More Warhammer goodness.Made all the better by not trying to play T&T whilst also drinking quite a lot of Pale Ale.

Battle of La Maisontaal - Warhammer The Old World

Half term now seems to mean an annual trip down to The Isle of Manly Men to play Warhammer. This year Kenton came along for the ride. We would be taking The Old Word version of Warhammer for a bit of a stress test as we'd all gone a bit giddy and bought the rules.

Andy would join us on the Saturday, but as we were arriving after a stupidly early start (I took advantage of taking Mrs Tom's Toy Soldiers to catch a plane to Dublin to leave at 4am) there would be time for a game or two on on Friday in a three player stylee.

Casting around for something suitable I suggested the Revenge of the Lichemaster scenario wherein Skaven and Undead attack a Bretonnian monastery with cavalry galloping to the rescue. The original scenario was in the Citadel Journal about 40 years ago and there have been at least two subsequent versions in White Dwarf, so I fettled some kind of rules together that would work (hopefully) for The Old World and Triumph and Treachery (which we love to play).

I took the noble Bretonnians, Stephen took the Skaven and Kenton was the Lichemaster. You may also notice a Space Marine in some of the pictures. Stephen said he had a Dalek, like in the original scenario, but on the day he couldn't find it, so a Marine stood in for the Mechanical Monstrosity.

A cardboard chapel for some added Old School vibes.

A mighty Skaven horde assembled to the South.

Brave Bagrian and his stout-hearted yeoman defenders of the chapel.

Kemmler shuffles on!

Tally-ho!

Wraiths versus Bell!

Flappy knights as well as hooved ones.

Kerunch!

Still the spirits struggle with the giant musical instrument.

The flower of Bretonnia hangs a right to deal with the ratmen.

Flap, flap, flap!

*Thunderous hoof noises*

Oh dear.

Stiffies block the passage.

"Forward mes braves!"

Not going well...

Eat flappy horse death, big zappy gun thing!

Uh-oh, banshee in the courtyard!

Spray the musk of fear tiny slinger rats!

Kemmler's in the courtyard. He's nearly captured the Magic Wheelbarrow of Dooooom!

Don't run in to the peasants you stupid cowards!

"At last the power of the Wheelbarrow of Doooom shal be unleashed!Mwahahahahahaha!"

As the battle drew to a close Kemmler and Moaning Mildred found themselves in th posession of the Wheelbarrow of Dooooom! and so he could claim the victory. Or possibly the Skaven had the biggest warchest, so they won.

Either way, Warhammer was the real winner.

(And I wasn't)

In reptrospect a three player complicated scenario with added T&T was perhaps not the most sensible choice for Stephen's first game of The Old World (and mine and Kenton's second one). Could have been worse though - we were stone cold sober for this one.

A situation we rectified for the second game.
