Warmaster Revolution: Ogres v. Kislev

Alessandro came over to the Solider Shack with his beautiful Ogre army. We played one fo the scenarios from the Warmaster Winter Warmer rules pack - it's one of the ones chum Alan has written for the event where five objectives are placed and you dice when you uncover an objective to see if it's the real deal or a dummy.

I took the same force I did to Warmaster 25 - I'm persisting with ituntil after the Winter Warmer when I'll add some new models and take a different list to other events later in the year. Trying to force myself to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the list. With, it has to be said, fairly limited sucess.

The Kislev forces assemble. For this game I tried having the two War Wagons in a single brigade, aiming to kick out a lot of firepower.

See, looks lovely, dunnit?

Alessandro had lots of scary looking Ogres.

His faster moving units pushed up on my right.

I grabbed a field and one of the objectives!
Turned out to be a dummy.

The situation at the end of the first turn.

The Ogre general roared his troops onwards.

My light cavalry were caught on the hop.

A solid wall of big blubbery flesh filled the centre of the battlefield.

The Mournfangs were having a whale of a time with the horse archers.

Ironguts charged the infantry in the field and were thrown back at some cost.

More horse archers fell to rampaging Ogres.

And the Mournfangs continued to feast

Having a go at the Bears now!

Eventually hunger drove the Ogres to charge the laagered war wagons

The Kislev foot were holding the field as the enemy closed in

The Winged lancers lined up a glorious charge. And promptly failed their next order.

Finally dragged a Mournfang down - but it didn't seem t slow them down much.

The War Wagons stood firm against the rotund tide.

More Ironguts tried to take the field.

As the troops were driven back from the laagered wagon

The Kislev centre had completely crumbled by this stage.

Another failed charge from the lancers

Kislev was fast running out of men.

The Ogres in the field were able to pick their fights, killing the archers and pushing Kislev to retreat from the field.

The Ogre Warlord roared his victory toar.

As the Leadbelchers, who'd not even fired a shot, looked on

An easy, overwhelming victory for the Ogres. I made it simpler for Alessandro by making a plan and then completely failing to stick to it.
There were a couple of moments when the dice failed me and charges didn't crash home, but as any Warmaster player will tell you - that's how the game goes and you need to be able to cope with that.

Great to have a new opponent over in the Soldier Shack, hopefully get another game in with Alessandro soon.

Warmaster Revolution: Ogres v Chaos

Way, way back in 2024 (just before Christmas) Andy bought his Ogres round to the Soldier Shack for a game of Warmaster. He's got the very jolly metal Ogres from Black Gate miniatures, that I've been resisting for a while. The army's been WiP for a while so Andy figured a game with them might encourage him to get them finsihed.

I decided to meet fire with fire and take Chaos - tow close combat, charge-y armies, what could possibly go wrong...?

I filmed things and made a video, if that's your bag - proper report follows below.

Anyway, I won the role for scouting and so Andy set up first.

Not wasting any time the Warriors advanced, into a wood.

The Brigade of Big Lads on Hairy Hefalumps gave me pause for thought.

Another big hairy brigade, this time of Yhetees.

My cavalry pushed up.

With more (plus a Dragon) on the flank.

He does like his big hairy blokes.

Still hugging the wood.

The Chaos forces prepare to strike home.

The flank is secure. Probably.

The Dragon Ogres race off to deal with the Hairy Brigade.

A bit of shooting disrupted my line.

Lets see how tough Yhetees are.

Ghostly Ogres in a field.

A Mexican stand off between the heavy cavalry types.

Oh dear.

Wiping out the Dragon Ogres the Hairy Lads raced in to the woods.

As more Ogres crashed home.

Although the Hairy Hefalumps fell to the knights, the unexpected arrival of Gorgers did not go well.

The fight in the wood was not going well either.

And sure enough soon after this I reached break point and the battlefield belonged to The Great Maw!
Turns out that although Chaos is pretty good at charging stuff in the face, so are Ogres.

Quite tempted now to get an Ogre army of my own (to match my WFB one).

Here's a few extra bonus phone pictures too.

Great fun game with a great opponent (and rules and vocal support from Alan too).
