Napoleonic British Light Dragoon

I've very nearly finished these. In fact I thought I had finished the troopers, until I remembered the sabretaches. Darn.

Anyway, a quick WiP for now.

Orky Kharacters

Trying to beef up my forces to take on the Gaming Heir I've been kitbashing some characters.

A weirdboy, made from an Orc boy with some Ork shoulder pads and and Ork skull to finish his staff.

A Painboy. Black Reach Nob body, Oil drum left over from making Crete scatter terrain, power claw from the Nobz sprue. The pistol space will eventually have a syringe made of coloured plastic rod.

Big Mek. Backpack from the Kromlech range, another Black Reach Nob body and head from the Stompa sprue

Finally, some boys with Kromlech rokkit backpacks to make tankbustas. All the better to take down Land Raider Crusaders.

Perry Scots Grey Horses (WiP)

Some work in progress on Perry Scots Greys.

Not exactly "Lady Butler" this shot.

I've actually got six to this stage now.
Next stop is back up to the loft to try and locate their riders.

Templars with the Gaming Heir

The Gaming Heir has actually decided to apply some pigment to models.

I spray 'em, he applies some block colours then I tidy them up (still some tidying needed on that sergeant's shoulder pad!)

Footsore Late Roman Sagittarii

It seems Steve and I are now in a mildly competitive rush to get our WAB armies together for Peterborough.
He's doing Irish - you should have a look at his progress over on his blog.

Right, here's what I've been up to.

Eight sagittarii pretty much blocked in and ready for some washes and highlights

Too much flesh paint on the palette meant I made a start on these eight spearmen too.

Even though Steve has over 100 wee Irish fellas to paint and I've already pretty much finished two units he will win the getting things painted race.

Paint table Sunday

I have been in something of a painting funk recently - I couldn't be bothered to get any soldiers and paints out (I am not fortunate enough to have a permanent space I can leave them set up) or even think where to start.
In the end this week I forced myself to just paint something, anything to try and kick-start things.
So I did.
And here's what I've been up to:

An Orky Deffkopta - these are dead good in the new rules, and the fact that only one of the three I use was finished was beginning to irk me. So this is the second one, moved on quite a bit - still a little tidying up to do, but nearly there.

High Marshall Helbrecht for the Gaming Heir's BT collection. A fantastic example of the sculptor's art and therefore far to fussy and detailed for the likes of me. A proper faff and I'm barely a quarter of the way through...

Some Musketeer Late Romans. Now Footsore Romans but they were Musketeer when I bought them!
This is part of my New Project(tm) of which more to come later this week...

I also painted some Perry Agincourt crossbowmen, but as they're pretty much finished they'll get their own post in a day or two.

Orctober (7)

A weekend without children meant I had a little time to myself that I wisely spent painting greenskins

These are pretty much finished I reckon.
Need to work our what colour the arrow fletches should be (red I think, but can't remember and the rest of the unit is in the loft), maybe add a highlight to the boots and then base.

This guy is a bit further off, but making solid progress.

Orctober (6)

So after a short hiatus we return to the joys of green flesh.
And this time I've actually done some work on da Orcs.

Much basic blocking out.
I suspect liberal application of washes will be my next step. Then some tidying up. These are part of a large unit, so I'm not going to spend too much time on the details.

In addition Oddgit has crept almost to the finish line in Idol of Gorktober

And finally the warboss has had his red bits done

Orctober (6)

Still Orktober and Idol of Gorktober geting most of the love.

I'll do the arrer boys later this week - but need to get Oddgit finished first...

Orctober (5)

Not much progress with the Orcs, but done some more for Idol of Gorktober

And Orktober

Orctober (4)

Bought to you by the colour yellow

Or Iyanden Darksun as yellow used to be known at GW Towers.
Also purple wash on the squig.

Orctober (2)

Slapped a little paint on a couple of models last night.
Ironically nothing done for the actual Orcs for Orctober. Instead...

Idol of Gorktober

Some Necron Abyss highlights on the cothing and the face painted Knarlock, Goblin and then Goblin/Rotting Flesh. There's a lot of fiddly detail to get done on this model. Hmmm.

Orktober

Foundry Wine Stain on the Squig, Mechrite ed on the Power Klaw and then Orkhide, Knarlock, Goblin on the flesh.

Some washes next I reckon

Orctober

It's that time of year when the leaves turn to orange and brown and thoughts turn to greenskins.
The month of Orctober

I know some in the hobby world are engaged in "Zomtober", but as that's not even a proper pun I can't be joining in with that. Plus zombies are up there with Steampunk on my list of "geeky things I just don't 'get'".

So Orctober it is for me.
No real plan just going to paint some things with green flesh.
I grabbed some Arrer Boys that have been sitting on my painting table since Adam were a lad (as we say Oop north)

 Venerable Orc boys these

No idea why i thought glueing four to a base before painting was a good idea

Unit filler/diorama

Generous General Ballroom (to give him his full title) recently gifted me this Ork warboss (a limited edition plastic model from some recent starter set or other). So I guess that makes it Orktober (which still makes more sense than Zomtober)

Some of his skin has already been started

And I've also got Oddgit the Shaman on the go. He's a greenskin, so he kind of qualifies but the real reason for starting him is that Steve and I are planning to start out on the old Idol of Gork campaign shortly, so i need him to lead the greenskins in the first battle. Gobtober? (even that sounds better than Zomtober to be honest). Or possibly Idol of Gorktober.

Oddgit

Apologies for the poor picture quality - camera out of charge and no access to my usual image software. Still, as they're just undercoated black in the main, you're not missing much.

Pistoliers in Progress (3)

Horses are done now.

They look a little rough, sadly after painting, then painting out the dapples.
But I'm blowed if I'm painting them again.
The riders are just drying after a good varnishing, so they'll be fully assembled later this week.

Painting Queue

This was the state of my painting desk last night

Lots of Warhammer Empire soldiers under way including a Jade Wizard, some Middenheim crossbowmen and the almost finished pistoliers.
The pistoliers are almost finished because part of last night involved painting dapples. Then looking at the result and deciding it looked more like a fairground ride than a real horse and re-painting the horse again.
Proof, were any needed, that I am not fit to change the painting water of Mr Dallimore.

Loot from the Loft

Today I returned some half finished items and abandoned projects to the loft.
Inevitably I didn't return from the dark and cobwebby reaches without a few new items to add to the painting queue.
Primarily I grabbed a bunch of stuff for my Empire army, along with some other randomness.
However I also returned with a bonus.
Ten partly painted classic metal Flagellants that will be just the ticket for my Empire army.

I had forgotten I even had these, they weren't in with the rest of the Empire stash. I must have begun them years ago.
However I'm very glad that I found them as I've always been fond of these models, and like the background for Flagellants but dislike the current plastics.
This way I can have them in my army without having to do some sick in my mouth while painting them up.

I also located a small pile of unpainted ones, nine in total.
So I think I'll do a unit of 18 (3x6) and see if I can squeeze them into the Empire campaign forces

Pistoliers in Progress (2)

Pistolier painting has continued.
Washes and highlights applied to the clothes, gold and pistol stocks painted and washes applied to the leather and feathers.

In addition I've progressed their mounts. Two grey highlights applied. The final one almost white.
They still looked horrid, but painting the leatherwork really added some definition and neatened them up and I'm a lot happier now.

The hair is a creamy bone colour, which I wasn't sure about but has now grown on me.
I'm beginning to think the dapples idea may be a step too far and I'll just stick with grey horses. Like a massive coward. I may have another look at the Dallimore Painting Guide where he makes it look dead easy.
