How to be a star
Are you ready for your close-up? Being a star takes a lot more than luck. You
can learn to recognize and develop your natural talents into the skills that will
allow you to climb the ladder of your craft toward stardom. With hard work, career
management, and self-promotion, you can give yourself a chance for fame and
fortune. Think you've got what it takes?

Find a talent that suits your natural abilities. If you want to be a star, you've got
to specialize. What will be the thing that people recognize you for? What's the skill,
ability, or talent that will take you to the top? Think about what things come easiest
to you, and listen to other people for advice to find your star-making quality.[1]
Are you a gifted athlete? When you and your friends get together to play sports, are
you always the first picked, or the one to score the most points? If so, you might
have the makings of a sports star.
Do you love music? Do you enjoy singing, playing an instrument, or dancing to
music, you might have the makings of a pop star, a singer, or a rock star.
Do you have the gift of gab? Are you a convincing and organizing presence, a leader
among your friends? Does everyone listen to what you have to say? If so, you might
have the makings of a politician.
Do love to pretend? Do you enjoy movies, plays, and television? Do people ever tell
you that you have a dramatic presence? If you're a good actor or actress, movie
stardom might be in the cards.

Find a coach. Developing your talents into a star-level degree of skill will require
help. Whether you want to go pro in acting or sports, politics or music, you've got to
get insider info and learn to hone your skills from an expert in the field. Start taking
acting or music lessons. Get private coaching for the sport you play. Secure an
internship with a local politician, or volunteer for the campaign. Learn everything

Find role-models as well in your field. If you want to be an actor, which actors do
you look up to? Who would you like to emulate? Find someone to model your career
after.

Study your craft. Whether you do it under the guidance of a coach or go it alone,
honing your craft is going to take lots and lots of work. For stars, studying the craft
should be a 24/7 occupation. Even if you're flipping burgers, you should be
rehearsing your lines. Even if you're just taking the bus to school, you should be
going over your practice routines.[3]
Absorb all the media that you can. Watch classic movies or listen to the type of
music you hope to make.[4]

Practice. Develop a regular practice schedule and devote as much of your free time
as possible to improving your talents in your star-making venture. Budding
politicians need to practice speeches and public speaking. Musicians need to
practice scales. Actors need to rehearse lines and study scenes. Pop stars need to
work on their dance moves. Athletes need to train.[5]

Be careful to focus on the proper things. For an actor, it can be tempting to get
caught up in superficial things. Updating your social networking, checking TMZ, and
other gossip rags isn't "practicing" for being a star. It's wasting time. Study your
craft, not the other stuff.

Marketing Your Skill

Get an entry-level job in the industry. The first and in many ways the most
challenging aspect of being a star is to get noticed. Make the initial contacts with the
people who matter in your industry by starting out on the bottom. Just get your foot
in the door and have the confidence that your talent will carry you the rest of the
way.[6]
Want to crack into making movies and get your name in lights? Get a job working as
a gaffer. Seat-filling, extra-work, and tech-crew stuff is all a common part of
Hollywood. You may want to act, eventually, but if you could put your skills to work
as a make-up artist, as a back-up cameraman, as a lighting crew member, you'll be
that much closer, and you'll be working.
Politicians generally start out working for other campaigns. Volunteer your time for
politicians you believe in and make contacts that will help you in your political
career.[7]
Athletes should work in coaching, or work in stadiums fulfilling other jobs. Work as
an usher to get into the games for free, or work the concessions. Tear tickets at
Yankee stadium and you may be on the infield someday.
Musicians would do well to work for and with other bands. Learn to run live sound
and help out at a venue, or get a job selling merch for a band you like. Be a roadie
and learn what life on tour is like. Stay close to the action.

Start networking. As you work your way into the industry, make sure to stay in
touch with everyone you meet on the way up. Try to meet people who are in the
same boat as you, aspiring musicians, actors, politicians, or other athletes, who are
at the same level as you are and who have similar goals. Help support each other
and celebrate your friends' successes and accomplishments. Work together on your
mutual goals.
Stardom can get pretty competitive, and it's true that there's not a whole lot of room
at the top. But getting locked into petty rivalries can bring you down a lot quicker
than it can lift you up. Be positive.
Make yourself easy to get in touch with. Start a LinkedIn page or a professional
social networking "fan" page for yourself so you can keep your industry contacts
and your personal contacts separated and more manageable.[8]

Take the work you can get. A job stumping for a politician you don't particularly
like in Des Moines? A third-string job on a team that's the worst in the league? An ad
for hemorrhoid cream? These might not sound like ideal situations for a budding
star, but work is work. Think of it as building experiences that'll make for a great

Get an agent. Making all the contacts you need to in the industry can be very
difficult to do alone. In most entertainment fields and in politics as well, you'll need
to get in touch with an agent who can help to represent you and set you up with
auditions, contacts, and jobs while you focus on the more important work of being
the best you can be.[11]
Usually, agents will take a percentage of what you make, but sometimes not at first.
You may have to be willing to make periodic installments to pay your agent to get
you to work at first. Be judicious in picking an agent who'll work with you and get
you the contacts and the work that you need.

Recognize the breaks when they come. Whether or not you believe in fate, it's
true that a star needs to learn to recognize the breaks when they come and embrace
every opportunity as a chance to increase their star power. Check your ego at the
door every now and then and give yourself the chance to succeed. A single
opportunity may be the difference between regular work and full-on stardom.
A small, one-line part in a movie with a well-respected director may seem like a

their 15 minutes of fame and disappearing just as quickly. But real stars can learn to
negotiate their careers to string it into a lifetime of challenging, engaging, and
exciting work that people will enjoy watching and living vicariously through for
years to come.
If you’re an actor, take on diverse roles and do things that will challenge your fans’
conception of you as a performer. Think of Sean Penn in Milk, Daniel Day-Lewis
in My Left Foot, and Charlize Theron in Monster.
If you’re a musician or another kind of performer, challenge yourself to keep the
consistency of your music high. Take time on your recordings and on your
performances. Don't go for the cheap and commercial buck.
If you're a politician, diversify your interests and be willing to change with the
times. Embrace causes that will have you on the right side of history, rather than
chasing votes with minute-by-minute opinion poles. Have integrity.
If you're an athlete, stay focused on keeping in shape and keeping your game at the
highest possible level. Don't get distracted by clubbing, updating your social
networking, or doing things that happen off the field. Be the best.

Maintain a healthy relationship with the media. Stardom can be a heavy crown
to bear and even strong and talented people can fold under the spotlight. Learning

with as quickly as possible. Learn to share your time in exchange for your

Learn the name of the reporters you work with on a regular basis and talk to them

Dealing with an Office Relationship as an Employer

Coach your management. This pertains to providing training and awareness to


supervisors and managers to discreetly address any office relationships. They should be
advised to monitor office relationships without infringing on any employee’s privacy.
• The managers should be instructed to amicably and comfortably coach

employees who get into a relationship with each other. If necessary, they should
talk to the employees any negative impact their relationship has had on the
office environment, on productivity, or on team morale.

that is being periodically reviewed, you should be prepared to handle an issue if it

decorum maintained throughout the office, relationship or no relationship. So when
two employees are together you need to watch them closely for any inappropriate
behaviors.

more important if the office relationship is negatively affecting general work


environment and productivity.
• Secondly, if upon a breakup, either individual comes up to you for filing a claim

of harassment, this also has to be acknowledged. When a complaint arrives, you


have to consider employee records before making any decisions.

Keep the issue as private as possible. Every employer understands that such a sensitive
issue should not be disclosed publicly, but should be dealt with in private.
• If you attempt to discuss the issue in front of other staff members, this may

cause a lot of embarrassment to the employees involved in the relationship and


could even be interpreted as a violation of their privacy.

Make appropriate action.This includes all steps you would consider taking to keep the
employees performance and behavior intact. All this is undertaken in light of the
impact on the overall organization. Many times organizations take strict action so that

economic status.
Although many working women are indeed happily and fruitfully married, it's just that
they are less likely to be so than non-working women. To be clear, we're not talking
about an O-Level dropout minding a cash register. For our purposes, a "career girl" has a
university degree (or higher) education, works more than 35 hours a week outside the
home and makes more than $3,000 per month.

If a host of opinions are to be believed, marrying these women is asking for trouble. If
they quit their jobs and stay home with the kids, they will be unhappy and you will be
more likely to fall ill.
They also say even your house will be dirtier that’s if you don’t have a maid. Why? Well,
despite the fact that the link between work, women and divorce rates is complex and
controversial, much of the reasoning is based on a lot of economic theory and a bit of
common sense. In classic economics, a marriage is, at least in part, an exercise in labor
specialization. Traditionally men have tended to do "market" or paid work outside the
home and women have tended to do "non-market" or household work, including raising
children. All of the work must get done by somebody, and this pairing, regardless of who
is in the home and who is outside the home, accomplishes that goal.

I think taking into account the older men generation opinions gender has a significant
influence on the relationship between work hours and increases in the probability of
divorce. Women's work hours consistently increase divorce, whereas increases in men's
work hours often have no effect. "I also find that the incidence in divorce is far higher in
couples where both spouses are working than in couples where only one spouse is
employed," Johnson says. A few other studies, which have focused on employment (as
opposed to working hours), have concluded that working outside the home actually
increases marital stability, at least when the marriage is a happy one. But even in these
studies, wives' employment does correlate positively to divorce rates, when the marriage
is of "low marital quality."

The other reason a career can hurt a marriage will be obvious to anyone who has seen

their mate run off with a co-worker: When your spouse works outside the home, chances
increase they'll meet someone they like more than you. "The work environment provides
a host of potential partners and individuals frequently find themselves spending a great
deal of time with these individuals.

Highly educated people are more likely to have had extra-marital sex (those with
graduate degrees are more likely to have cheated than those with diplomas or O-Levels.)
And if the cheating leads to divorce, you're really in trouble. Divorce has been positively
correlated with higher rates of alcoholism, clinical depression and suicide. Divorce has
also been associated with increased rates of cancer, stroke, and sexually-transmitted
disease. Plus divorce is financially devastating e.g. your house will be taken away by
your wife or you will sell it and share the money equally.

So why not just stay single? Because, academically speaking, a solid marriage has a host
of benefits beyond just individual "happiness." There are broader social and health
implications as well. Marriage is positively associated with "better outcomes for children
under most circumstances," higher earnings for adult men, and "being married and being
in a satisfying marriage are positively associated with health and negatively associated
with mortality." In other words, a good marriage is associated with a higher income, a
longer, healthier life and better-adjusted kids.

Guys, if you're eyeing a professional lady, go ahead and marry don’t listen to the older
generation because times has changed, what was feared in the past by men has become a
necessity in today households. The more income a household generates the better
standard of life a household will enjoy plus most modern girls are now professionals.

Ladies: A word of advice. Ask your man the following question: When was the last
time you learned something useful, either at home or work?

If the last new skill your guy learned was how to tie his shoes in the grade two, dump
him. If he can pick up new ideas faster than an old dog learning new tricks, you've got a
winner.

Some people think that professional women are more likely to get divorced, to cheat and
to be grumpy about either having kids or not having them. But rather than rushing to
blame the woman, let's not overlook the other key variable: What is the guy doing?

Take, for instance, the claim that professional women are more likely to get divorced,
because they're more likely to meet someone in the workforce who will be "more
attractive" than that old lion lager drinking hubby at home.

Women have faced this kind of competition squarely for years but now that most women
are educated men now think that they will lose their wife to better men at their wife’s
workplace. The tables have turned for men. Women should allow their men to visit and to
be known at their workplaces. Women should also display a small picture portrait of their
husband in their office. That way when your husband visits you at your office he
becomes confident and trust issues get limited.

There is, of course, the continual dilemma of who does the work around the house. But if

both spouses are working, guess what? You have got enough income to hire someone
else to do household chores even if you don’t have kids you can afford to hire one.
Husbands should understand that work takes up a lot of energy and when you get home
you just want to rest on the couch. If you have a career wife that’s how she feels when
she gets home so don’t expect her to run to the kitchen and cook you dinner straight away
from work. Give her one or two hours to rest to prepare a meal or if you have a maid,
your maid can cook the meals and then on weekends your wife cooks. Career Ladies
should also realize that husbands want to be served with delicious home cooked meals
not food takeaways or classy restaurant meals. Find time to cook and if you can’t cook,
join a cookery school and learn how to balance work and house duties.

Money is a problem? Honestly the biggest problem for couples is when money is short
and also when the wife is earning more than the husband. The husband feels insecure but
the husband should learn how to adjust to the situation and the wife should always treat
the husband with respect. When a couple respects each other and places no value on who
earns the most money they will enjoy a good life.

The essence of a good marriage for a career couple is that both people have to learn
to change and keep on adapting. Some careers are very demanding and women who
are high level managers find it difficult to have children so they need to take a
career break or find a less demanding job e.g. being a University Lecturer. Children
bring tons of change and happiness. Mothers encounter it first during the nine
months of pregnancy, starting with changing body dimensions. But fathers have to
learn to adapt, too, by learning to help care for children, to take charge of new
aspects of a household, to adapt as the mothers change. A career break is good for a
professional lady in order to have children because after you finish having children
you can always realize your dream to be a CEO.

An unemployed Accountant gets a job in South Sudan

When I opened his CV I was shocked, a highly qualified Accountant but unemployed and
broke. Tatenda told me that since 2015 he has been struggling to get a job and he had
given up until a friend showed him my whatsapp groups. He also told me that he was
broke and his young brother was looking after him and his family. Tatenda insisted on
me helping him to design an International CV and I then agreed to help him.

The first thing I do before coaching someone is improving their CV design and content, I
managed to improve Tatenda CV and especially his job experience, the next thing was to
coach him by going through as many questions as possible. Coaching usually takes 3
coaching sessions inorder to improve a person’s interview skills. After we had finished
Tatenda was a new person, a new Accountant who had regained his confidence and
image. I have also introduced a career image coaching session whereby I help change
someone’s personal image and dressing. This has worked wonders especially on shy
marketing people, they become more confident in their profession. I also taught Tatenda
how to apply for jobs in Zimbabwe and in South Sudan. Although Tatenda was applying
for local jobs he also managed to apply to many accounting jobs in South Sudan on a ngo

website which I introduced him to and he got interviewed via Skype and he got a good
job in South Sudan. Salaries in South Sudan are very high and the demand of skilled
labour is high. Being out of employment in Zimbabwe is very hard and painful especially
if you have a family to feed. If you are unemployed for long, you lose the feeling of
control of your life that a job and a regular income gives you. Your days lack structure,
you may feel helpless to change your circumstances and you lose that status that comes
with having a job. People who lose their ability to control things are more likely to
become unhappy and perhaps depressed and some turn to alcohol. Voluntary work in
charity organizations or being involved in sporting activities or taking up church positions
might help you meet influencial people who might help you to get a job. This will help
you develop friendships, make you feel good and add new skills to your CV. Helping
others is a good way to help yourself. Volunteering for a good cause can increase your
happiness and confidence.

Several months ago he was a broken man, he had completely given up in life and he had
lost everything. Claytons told me that his wife had left him for Capetown and ever since
then she has never contacted him for many months. Clayton’s wife left him after 2 years
post his retrenchment without any benefits. Clayton was employed at a local
manufacturing company that closed down due to the economic problems in our country
and he l failed to get another job. Clayton accumulated many debts until his wife decided
to leave him for her parents’ house with their daughter and she never returned. When
Clayton visited his mother in-law he told him that her daughter was now staying in
Capetown. After some months his landlord kicked him out of his lodgings, his life was
now in mess since his wife had dumped him causing big psychological problems on him.
Clayton then moved in with his sister, he was now a big burden to his sister and his
brother in-law.

Claytons sister is a follower of Zimbabwejobs especially career stories, she first heard

Clayton came for interview coaching and I managed to edit his International CV then he
left for Dubai. Finding a job in Dubai is very tricky, it’s all about God’s blessings for your
or your luck. Thousands of Job hunters travel to Dubai every month on a 3 month holiday
visa to hunt for jobs. If you are lucky to get a job, a work permit is very easy to get since
UAE firms mainly employ foreigners. UAE employs over 9 million foreigners and their
economy continues to produce many jobs however some jobs pay well and some offer
poor salaries. Claytons Sister managed to get a bank loan of 3000 bond and funded her
brothers Dubai (UAE) job hunting trip. To go job hunting to Dubai (UAE) on a three
month holiday one needs about US2500- 3000 dollars in total, the air ticket will cost
US700- 1000 dollars, accommodation will cost US150- 250 per budget room per month,
US500- 800 dollars will cover your costs such as transport or food and US200-400 will
cover your visa application fee depending on the Travel Agency prices.

Clayton sister is a good example of a good Christian and a loving sister, she never ignored
her brother in his time of need, Claytons other brothers ignored him but his sister gave
him shelter and funded his Dubai trip via a bank loan which takes several years to pay
back but I happy to know that Clayton is now paying back that loan. In Dubai (UAE)
Clayton was lucky to get a good job as a Sales Representative, he now works for big
international cosmetics company in Dubai. Clayton has gained lots weight and he

This week I managed to post a few jobs because I was at a sad funeral, my cousin sister
passed away, she left 2 young twin girls and her ex-husband buried her. My sister got
married to a Teacher 10 years ago and they were blessed with beautiful girl twins. After
graduating my Mukwasha was posted to a rural school and my sister refused to go and
stay in the rural areas with her husband opting to stay with her mother in the low
density suburbs in Harare. My Mukwasha didn’t like this arrangement and he
complained to our Tete but they failed to solve this problem since my Maiguru was
heavily involved in her daughter’s marital affairs. My Mukwasha also discussed this issue
with me and I advised my sister to stay with her husband but she refused, her mother
wanted her to study for a degree at a local University. My Mukwasha used to travel over
200km every Friday for 4 years to visit his wife and my sister rarely visited her husband
at his rural school, as a city girl she probably shunned the rural areas. This long distance
marriage strained their relationship. My Mukwasha was a good husband, he loved his
wife and twins, he used to go to South Africa and he bought many clothes and household
property for his family. His mother in-law had given them her cottage and my Mukwasha
filled up this cottage with lots of property but my Maiguru interfered so much in his
marriage and their relationship got strained, my Maiguru also badly advised her
daughter and my Mukwasha was also under pressure from his family and decided to end
their marriage since his wife refused to stay with him at his rural school.
The couple divorced and my sister started to date other men and my Mukwasha then got
a teaching job in Namibia and he married a Namibian woman. My sister graduated and

she got a job but unfortunately she contracted HIV/AIDS, her boyfriend passed away a
few years ago and this year she was in and out of hospital, she battled with blood cancer
and she passed away this week. Her ex-husband came from Namibia and he volunteered
to cover all the funeral costs, he bought a beautiful casket and really supported and
comforted his mourning bereaved twins. I truly believe that my Mukwasha is good loving
Christian, this week my Mukwasha strengthened my faith, to be a true Christian you
must learn to forgive like our Saviour Jesus Christ, you mustn’t revenge, as a true
Christian you must let go of the painful past and place your future in God’s hands. This is
very difficult to do but we must learn from Jesus Christ and become true loving
Christians. I had a chance to catch up and discuss stories with my Mukwasha and he told
me that he had started his own Private College in Namibia and a driving school then I
started to reflect about my sisters past actions, no one can predict someone’s future
only God can, we mustn’t interfere in our children marriages, we must respect their
spouse choices, their dreams and aspirations.
