Splatters and Splats

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have two cards to share today.

First up....

I love the sketch at CAS Colours and Sketches.  It's one of my
favorite go to layouts.

I think it fits at AAA Cards challenge this month too.

The butterfly is from last January's My Monthly Hero sets and so is the
Aqua Glimmer Metallic Ink that I colored it with.

I added some splatters with white gouache paint for added interest and
a little strip of embossing for him to perch on.

The simple sentiment can be finished on the inside.

Next up....

When I watched Loll's video on splattering, I loved watching her splat technique
(about 2:15 into the video).  Now was a good opportunity to try it and I've got to say
that it's as much fun as I thought it would be!

I splatted a bit on my paint palette and picked up the color for splatters too.

Thank you Hilary for a fun challenge!

Birthday Balloons for CAS Watercolour

Hi there.  It's time for a new challenge at CAS Watercolour.

Karen is hosting this month and she chose....

I've die cut and punched a couple of balloons out of Mixed Media paper
and used my Zigs and a waterbrush to color them up.

I put them on a background of Gelato Splash and
inked up a splatter stamp with the same Gelatos to let the splatters
spread to the card base.

The strings are from the ends of the sentiments from
Handwritten Border stamps.

You can't see it in the picture, but the balloons are
shined up with some Nuvo glaze and shaped.

Our talented friend, Bobby is joining us as
Guest Designer this month.  Be sure to check out her
wonderful design and the inspiration pieces from our super Design Team.
Then I hope you'll join us at
CAS Watercolour.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Splattering Reminder for CAS Mix Up

It's CAS Mix Up  reminder time.

There's still time to join in.

Our challenge this month is
I used stamping, splattering, stenciling, watercolor and shaped die cut

I used the leftover from die cutting this iris as a stencil and
watercolored through the stencil on a piece of Acrylic Paper.
I love the texture of this paper!

Then came the fun part.

I still haven't pulled out a box so I splattered the card front and
my work table and everything else on it!

But I got some good splatters on my design piece and
none on the walls, so all is good!

Then I watercolored the die cut iris with Zig CCRBMs and my Aqua Painter.

I added layers of color until I had the depth of color I was looking for.

I had to be patient and let the flower dry then used a bone folder to shape it.

I used liquid glue on the stem and leaves and dimensionals behind the flower
so there's lots of dimension.

Stamped the sentiment and it was ready to put on a card base.

The Design Team have some more cards to share with you.
Can't wait for you to see them.

You have until the 24th to join us.

Hope to see your CAS cards at the Mix Up.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Stenciling with Distress Oxide Inks

Hello friends.  Welcome to my blog.

Here's another card from my play with the Distress Oxide Inks.

I LOVE this silky smooth ink for stenciling!

I sponged the ink through the stencil, spritzed with water and
removed the stencil.  The water makes the ink brighten up.
It left a few splatters to give some feeling of texture to the flower.

I cut one X-stitch border piece from a larger one and inlaid it.

Some splatters with watered regular ink and dew drops finished it up.

This month's CAS Mix Up
I've used stamping, splatter, stencil, and inlaid die cuts.

I'm also taking this to TIME OUT Challenges
FLOWERS WITH THE OPTION OF KISSING
No kissing on this card but I'll send some with the hug!

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Splattering for CAS Mix Up

It's CAS Mix Up time.

Welcome to Adventures in Splattering!

My dear and very talented friend, Loll is hosting the challenge this month.

I used stamping, splattering, watercoloring, Distress Crayons, die cuts

Now splattering can be tricky.
And it's lots of fun to see where some of those splatters land!

But first I stamped these pretty blooms with archival ink.

I was playing with Nance (Soul Stampin') that day
and I had taken my Distress Crayons.

I scribbled the yellow crayon on a fancy palette (the stamp case)
and added a little water with my Aqua Painter.
The crayon doesn't dissolve in the water like paint,
but eventually it was in liquid form.
And what a gorgeous shade of yellow!!!!

I added some orange (colors below) toward the center of the flowers
and finished off  by coloring the stems and center with Distress Markers.

I did the wash after I got home.  I was so busy yakking that I was
afraid to do that there.

After everything was dry, I smooshed some black paint on
another fancy palette (laminated cardstock),
held my breath and splattered.

I actually hit the paper in a few spots!

My table was covered in lovely black spots too.

Fortunately I'd moved most everything off the table.

I probably should add that I masked the flowers while I splattered.
Knowing how splatters fly, I was hesitant to take a chance
on my aim.

I've been told that the best way to splatter is to use a cardboard box.

Doesn't sound as exciting to me.  But maybe I'll try to find one next time.

I do love the look of the splatters though.  At least this time!

Do check out the CAS Mix Up challenge site.
The Design Team and our Guest Designer Elaine,
have awesome inspiration for you.

There's some links to good splattering tutorials too,
in case you're interested.
