More Fun with Gesso

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This Christmas tree came out kind of wonky, but I like it anyway.

I used a stencil to smoosh gesso on kraft cardstock.

When the gesso was dry, I replaced the stencil and used a sponge dauber to
add some Rustic Wilderness Distress Oxide ink over the gesso.

I cleaned the stencil again while the ink dried and replaced it to trace around
the edges with a Heat Active Pen and gold foil.  Obviously I didn't have the stencil
placed exactly right which caused the wonkiness.  To add some sparkle, I winked the tree.

At this point I almost tossed the whole thing.  I decided instead to sponge
some white ink around the tree and add some Chunky White embossing powder.
heating from below for snow.

An added gold mat convinced me that this was a keeper.

Another card using gesso through a stencil.  This time I let the gesso dry then used

Going in Circles

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

For my card, I used an alcohol ink lift background and added
stenciling in a similar color along one side and the opposite corner.

I've stamped a simple image to my background and added some glitter to the flower.

The card base is embossed with the Subtle Texture Embossing Folder.
The photo doesn't seem to pick that up.

A twofer....

from my stash and a little stamped hello.

Checks and Christmas Trees

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I turned the page of my calendar to August, I realized that I really need
to up my Christmas card stash.  This year is going by so fast that I'm
afraid I'll wake up tomorrow and it will be time to send them!

I pulled out a NBUS die from Stamplorations and some
Christmas papers and here are a couple of outcomes.

When I saw the mood board at the Peace on Earth #20 Challenge, I remembered
this black and white checked paper in my stash.

Here's the board.  My inspiration is pretty easy to spot.

I also cut the tree from black foam so the tree has lots of dimension.

The stars and were punched from some Christmas plaid and I used a piece of
the plaid to mat the embossed snowflakes background.

The bling was added with the aid of some stickers.

And a Twofer....

This time I die cut the tree from some green plaid paper, and twice from
green cardstock to give it body. I decorated it with gold stickers and
added it to a new (NBUS), pin point snowflake background.

The gingham paper was in the same paper pack that the plaid was in.
(Sorry, those papers are so mixed up that I have no idea who made the paper.)

I pulled out a Glimmered Christmas sentiment to finish it off.
(I like to keep a stash of these sentiments on hand.)

I did more with this tree, but I'll wait to post them later.

Or maybe you'll get one in the mail.

Challenges:
ABC Christmas - N is for New-O is for Old (Snowflake plate in new)
Peace on Earth #20 - ATG/Mood Board Inspiration
Krafty Chicks - Any Occasion (Christmas)
NBUS #41 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Tree Die & Snowflake plate)

Card Recipe
Stamps: Scribbly Christmas (TH)
Ink:   Garden Green
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Patterned Paper
Other:  Christmas Icons-Christmas Tree #1 die (Stamplorations), Frosty Border EF (Darice), Star Punches, Star of Wonder Die (MB), Pinpoint Snowflake Plate (MB), Holiday Sentiments Glimmer Plate (Splbndrs), Gold Stickers (stash)

Enjoy!

Thinking of You

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

A while back my friend Nance invited me to her house to play with paper glaze.
It's like a pearlescent embossing paste and comes in different colors.  It's so creamy
and goes through a stencil like a dream!

I used Snowdrop White through this leaf stencil.  Long after it had dried, I
lightly sponged some color around it.

I found this piece of alcohol ink in my stash and used that to color this bird.
I love how the design of the ink looks like a wing!

Gingham Trees

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have another twofer and just skidding in under the wire for
one challenge.

When I saw the mood board at the Peace on Earth Christmas Challenge #3, I
knew I had to play along.

I had a couple of pieces of decorative paper in black and white checks and
a fun tree die that needed to see some action.

While looking for something to use for a background, I found this piece of
stencil monoprint in my background basket that worked great.

After I had die cut the stitched rectangle from it, I thought the leftover piece
would be perfect as a frame for another stencil monoprint that must have been
a first pull because it was darker.

So here's the twofer...

I think I like this one better.

Stencil Monoprint for CAS Mix Up

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at CAS Mix Up.

My dear friend Loll is hosting this month and she's challenged us to...

I've used a Sanna Lippert stencil with Brusho crystals sprinkled on the stencil,
spritzed with water and pressed onto a piece of heavy cardstock.

I've die cut some branches from kraft cardstock, smooshed them into my
VersaMark pad and heat with clear embossing powder.

There's a piece of yellow cardstock peeking through the die cut hemstitch rectangle.

Our wonderfully talented Design Team have some awesome inspiration
for you and we're joined by our September winner, Steph.
Do check out our inspiration, tutorials then
come join us at CAS Mix Up.

Stencil Stamping for CAS Mix Up

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at CAS Mix Up.

Our very talented Jenny is hosting this month and she chose...

I used Distress ink through a stencil for this flower.  Using a blender brush,
I lightly spread some ink around the stenciling.

Then I replaced the stencil and stamped over top with a background script stamp.

We are excited to have Chrissie Stokes joining our fantastic Design Team.
Welcome aboard, Chrissie!

Two of my good friends, Bobby and Michele are our Guest Designers this month!
I can't wait for you to see what they've done with this challenge
and the rest of the design team too. Lots of wonderful inspiration there!

If you're unsure of ways to do this technique, there are tutorials at the
CAS Mix Up challenge site.

Hope to see you in the gallery.

More Zoom Fun

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Last week I enjoyed a Zoom crafting get together and
have finished a couple of the cards using the techniques.

First up...

We dripped some Frost White paint on our mat and smeared it around with
a wadded up piece of plastic wrap.  With very little paint on the wrap, we pounced
it on our cardstock and let it dry while we washed the stencil.
Then we replaced our stencil and used our blending brushes to ink it
up with Distress Ink through a stencil.

Another technique we did was Kristina's Sponging Bleed Through a Stencil.
After the image was inked through the stencil, we used small blending brushes to "bleed"
the color around the stenciling.  It gives a much softer look.

You can use multiple colors for this technique and it gives an even better look.

Here's a photo of the shine from the Faux Mother of Pearl.

While I was waiting for inspiration to finish my tree card, I die cut a butterfly from vellum
and did the technique again.

Then I used the die to cut out my FMOP butterfly.

Here's a picture of the shine.

For this card's background I used an Eileen Godwin Technique.

I did some soft stenciling and stamping then used circle masks I'd cut from
heavy vellum to lightly sponge around.  When the ink was completely dry, I
used a Quickie Pen to trace around the circles and added some glitter.

It was a fun day!

Challenges:
Krafty Chicks #547 - CAS
Penny Black Saturday - Anything Goes

Now I hope that Blogger doesn't think there's something in this post that they
don't like and delete it all.  If I disappear from Blogland, you'll know that's why.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Stenciled Tag

Hi there.  I'm glad you stopped by!

Today I'm sharing another tag card.

I've cut two large tags with the CUTplorations Luggage Tag die, scoring
one about a half inch from the top then using a bit of liquid glue
to stick the two pieces together.

The front was cut with the next size smaller die from a piece
I'd stenciled with these trees.

The trees were a little too dark so I die cut a piece of vellum
to put over the background.  I love the snowy, misty look.
Frosty torn paper snowbanks and this
sweet deer (colored with Copics) finish the scene.

CAS Stencil is celebrating their 1st Birthday and Nancy has
asked us to use a new stencil.

I'll add this to the gallery at CAS Christmas where Christine is asking for

Angel, Angel

Hello crafty friends.  I hope you're having a crafty week.

I have a Twofer today.

First up.

I die cut this gal from a scrap of white cardstock then again from some tissue paper
that had been smooshed in watered ink.  After it was dry, I scrunched it up and touched
the wrinkles with Versamark, sprinkled on some gold embossing powder and heat set.
I thought it would make an interesting gown and slippers for my angel.

I used some snippets of gold foil for her head, wings and trumpet.  The wings looked
a little plain so I put them in my Subtle Embossing Folder and fixed that.

The strips are actually silver and have a nice shimmer.  A friend gave me
a bag full of these strips that were left over from a project she did.

For my twofer....

My second gal was die cut from White Glitter paper and again from gold foil.

I place the glitter cut a little off the gold and put her on a piece of watercolor
from my stash of backgrounds.

A few shimmery stars and a heat embossed sentiment finished this card.

I'm joining in with Christmas Kickstart Challenge #25
THE CHRISTMAS STORY
