Amaryllis

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have a confession to make.

I wasn't going to buy anything else to use for Christmas until I used ALL my
NBUS Christmas stash.  But Michele got to me with the second and third

So I wouldn't feel too bad about my over buying addiction, I made
this into a birthday card instead of Christmas.  It's for a very special person so it's
larger than normal.

I cut everything from Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored with Copics.

It was a challenge getting the pieces all together right, but oh what wonderful
dimension they have.  Totally worth it!

I used a sentiment that had been foiled with a Betterpress plate and my
Glimmer Machine.

Now I have a request.  My friend Marge is celebrating her 90th birthday
on December 23rd.  We would love for her to get 90 birthday cards.
If you'd like to send her one, email me (see my sidebar) and I will give
you her address.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  PP It's Your Day (SB)
Ink:
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Layered Amaryllis die (HB), Copics (R24, R29, R37, YG01, YG03, G24, YG67, YR23, E97, E23, 0), Tile Reflections EF, Essential Modern Oval die (SB), Subtle EF (ret SU), Gold Foil

Enjoy!

Gingerbread

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Gingerbread Men always have a place in our Cookie Day routine.
I started making them when our girls were little and they still make an
appearance at Christmas.  The grandchildren had so much fun decorating and seeing
who could get the most icing and candies on each one!  Now they are "too big" to
decorate gingerbread men so we invite the children next door to come and help us out.

But today, it's gingerbread on a card.

This NBUS Gingerbread Man Embossing Folder with Die arrived a few days ago.

My photo doesn't catch the embossing well, but the background has embossed
gingerbread men and the little guy in the foreground is also embossed.

I used an embossing pen for the "icing" on the arms and feet, Ultrafine
Sharpies for the details and a blending brush to add color to the die cut.

And last year's gingerbread man wanted to come out and play...

Last year he made an appearance in felt and decorated our Cookie Day aprons.

He's on that embossed background that seems to be camera shy.

I cut him out of Brown Sugar cardstock and brushed some Toffee ink around the
edges.  I used the same ink to stencil some "cracks" over him.  They were too dark
so I swiped him with a sponge dauber that had a little white ink in it.

Do you remember the story of the Gingerbread Man?  It was a favorite of my girls
when they were little. "Run, run as fast as you can...."

This gingerbread man is celebrating the Peace on Earth Challenge's 100th Challenge.
Congratulations to the dynamic duo of Darlene and Diane who have created and
offer this fantastic challenge!

Same But Different

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I had another play with my fairly new Fantasy Bouquet dies.

This time I watercolored them in yellows.

I usually cut two, just in case.  Both sets of flowers turned out well so
I made two cards.  I used Jen B's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches for
each but different backgrounds.

This one has an embossed background.  I thought the flowers in the embossing
folder were a good match for the die cut flowers.

For the second card, I used a new to me die from the NBUS box and put it on
a yellow base for a little more pop of color.

Now I need to decide which to take over to

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:  Wildflowers (ret W+9)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Watercolor (Arches CP)
Other:  Fantasy Flowers die (SSS), Privet Branch die (SSS), Distress re-inkers (Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Dried Marigold, Peeled Paint, Rustic Wilderness), Floral Festoon EF (SSS), Stitched Rectangle die (SSS), Decorative Sentiment Dies (EMD)

Card Recipe
tamps:  Wildflowers (ret W+9)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Watercolor (Arches CP)
Other:  Fantasy Flowers die (SSS), Privet Branch die (SSS), Distress re-inkers (Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Dried Marigold, Peeled Paint, Rustic Wilderness), Border Bling: Tin Stitched die (PTI), Decorative Sentiment dies (EMD)

The Blues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I finally got a chance to use my Concord & 9th poinsettia.
I'd used the other flower in the set on this card.

I die cut the flower from some Shimmery White cardstock and added just a
bit of blue that was leftover on my blending brush.  The leaves were cut from
the same piece of cardstock and I blended some green ink on them.

The blue cardstock in the background has shimmer too.  It was a gift, so I have
no idea where it came from.  I LOVE it though and used it for a Hanukkah card.

I blended some dark blue ink around the edges to make the area around the
candles glow.  I probably should of stamped the sentiment higher.
Too late now though.

Challenges:
Time Out #302 - Pick two from image below (I've picked Emboss & Corner)

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:
Ink:   Garden Green, Blue (ink left of brush)

Ink:   Night of Navy, Whisper White

No Challenges today.  Just cards done for fun (and the Christmas stash).

This time I used the smaller bird from the set.

I've framed him up with some Nordic frames.

Next up is using the larger bird  reversing the red and white.

For a bit of change, on a blue background...

This time I've used my Rosemaling embossing folder and swiped over the

Season's Greetings Holly Sprig

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Last week was super busy and today I finally had a chance to get
in the studio and make a card.

I used Verena's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and a NBUS holly die.

I followed the sketch exactly, but I like it turned on it's side too.

I die cut the holly from Neenah Solar white and added color on the leaves with
sponge daubers.  The berries were cut from a scrap of red glimmer.

I had two holly sprigs and cut a cluster of leaves off the second to add to
the single sprig.  That left a cluster left for the inside.

I need to decide which end is up before I put the sentiment on the inside.

What do you think?

Challenges:
Freshly Made Sketches #712 - Sketch by Verena
NBUS #80 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Scripty Holiday (GKD)
Ink:   Soft Suede, Garden Green, Shaded Spruce
Paper:   Neenah Solare White, Red Glimmer, Soft Suede
Other:  Sealed Holly Sprigs die (SB), Pinewood Planks EF (SU)

Enjoy!

Nordic Bird for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at Color Hues.

This month Nanc' picked our colors.  She chose....

I immediately thought of my Nordic Bird die paired with a new embossing folder.

I die cut the bird from teal cardstock adding a silver wing.  The branch he's sitting on
was die cut from Neenah Solar White and lightly brushed with light teal ink that was left
on a blending brush.  I added a bit of glitter to the branches too.  A little sparkle adds to the fun.

Now let's go and see what my talented friends and our
fantastic Guest Designers Loll and Joanne have done to inspire you.

I hope you'll create a card using Teal and Silver and add it to the gallery at

Challenge ends at 9:00 AM on November 29th.

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Pool Party, Whisper White
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Tranquil Teal (GKD), Silver Foil
Other:  Nordic Birds (Grtry), Norwegian Rosemaling EF (SB), Greetings Die (PB), Botanicuts Pine Bough die (Grtry)

Enjoy!

More Cardinals

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I found some colored cardinals in my UFO box and thought it was about time
to get them on some cards.

This is a stamp from Impression Obsession which sadly has gone out of business.

I stamped with black ink and colored with Copics and added a very light wash of
Tumbled Glass re-inker in background.

falling snow.

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Awhile back my friend Nance came for a playdate and she brought
some of her new dies to share.

I went to town with this cardinal.

I die cut the birds from mixed media paper and colored with Distress re-inkers
used as watercolors.

I'm taking this one to Can You Handle the Pressure where it's
Anything Goes using an Embossing Folder with an option of Food or Drink.
Maybe the berries would be food for the birds?

Next up is a CAS version for Simply Clean and Simple where I used
the option of Holidays/Winter.

And finally a pair for the Triple B Challenge where they ask for
Birds, Butterflies and/or Blooms.
