More Pete's Flags (and new commanders) for the Wars of the Roses

I got a second order from Pete's flags a few months back, with a bevy of WotR banners not included in my first order. I've deliberately posted the images in low resolution. the actual flags are a wonder of detail, and perfectly sharp.

Lord Zouche of Harringworth, a staunch Yorkist and  supporter of Richard II, he was captured at Bosworth Field, but his life was spared. Livery Sable and Murrey.

Here's one of the Zouche flags in use.

Jasper Tudor; Lancastrian Uncle of Henry VII.   Livery colors Argent and Vert.

Here's Jasper with some of his flags. I had more flags to use than I had figures to carry them, so on my latest set of command bases, I've drilled a hole in the base to take the wire flagpole, and added some rocks (talus) to suggest the flag was stuck in the ground an its stability bolstered by the surrounding rocks.

Tudor livery colors were Argent and Vert.

Sir Edward Poynings, Lancastrian/Tudor, best known for his actions in Ireland.

Sir Edward with his banner.

Livery color is uncertain, possible Gules.

Forward!

Sir Thomas Stanley, Yorkist. He fought at Northampton, 2nd St Albans, Towton and Bosworth.  Livery Tawney and Vert.

Here's Sir Thomas.

The ? Chicken or Eagle leg motif is unusual!
Northampton (Y). Second St Albans (Y). Towton (Y). Bosworth (T).
Northampton (Y). Second St Albans (Y). Towton (Y). Bosworth (T).
Sir William Stanley, Yorkist, fought at Blore Heath, Mortimer's Cross, Towton, Hedgeley Moor, Hexham, Barnet, Tewkesbury, and Bosworth. Livery - Gules.

Here's Sir William with two of his flags.

The Stag's head is prominent.

For the King (but which one)?

Sir John Howard, Duke of Norfolk. Yorkist, fought at Northampton, 2nd St Albans, Towton, Barnet, Tewkesbury, and Bosworth.

Here's one of Sir John's flags in use with some longbowmen.

Household Troops, Earl of Warwick

This is the last of three units of new Household troops for the Wars of the Roses. All my Household troops have a single color for their clothing, and in this case, that's green!

The banner is that of Sir Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, aka the Kingmaker!

Figures, as usual, are by Old Glory (originally the "Revenge" Medieval line, once sold by the Emperor's Headquarters, if I re all correctly).

Properly, Neville's men should have a white and red livery.

Flag once again is by Pete's Flags. At least the green matches the Eagle on his arms!

Some "Darth Vader" style helms once again!

Household troops of Edward IV

Fresh off their less than stellar performance at Towton this weekend, we have a unit of Foot Knights (Household troops in plate armor) supporting the cause of Edward IV

As usual, the figures are from Old Glory, and were originally part of the "Revenge" range ? 30 years ago.

I chose to do all my Household troops in a single color, in part because with all that plate, there isn't much fabric showing anyway, and in part to further differentiate them for the mass of every day troops in livery coats, that are most often bicolored.

That's the model for Darth Vader, rear rank, 3rd from the right!

The white Rose of York is prominent on the banner (once again from Pete's Flags). Curiously, although Shakespeare's plays cover Edward IV, none of them are named for him.

Wars of the Roses Foot Knights: Baron Audley

James Tuchet, 5th Baron Audley, was a noted veteran of the Hundred Years War. He raised troops from his estates, and supported the Lancastrian cause. He commanded the Lancastrian forces at the Battle of Blore Heath ( September 23, 1459), where he was killed.

His son, John, 6th Baron Audley, was captured by the Earl of Warwick in Calais in 1460. While he was there, he met the future Edward IV, and was persuaded to defect to the Yorkist cause.

Sir John fought for Edward's cause at the battles of Mortimer's Cross, Barnet, and Tewkesbury.

Sir John was appointed Lord High Treasurer by Richard III in 1484, and died in 1490.

Awesome banners are by Pete's flags - still drawn from the batch I purchased last year.

Figures are Old Glory, and are meant to represent Household troops in plate, a category I was somewhat short on. I have more of these to paint, as well as some more Archers, artillery crew, and even some peasants to use for "Very Inferior" troops.

Wars of the Roses - Command stands and flags

Here is the first pair of command bases for my Wars of the Roses forces.

The base on the left bears the standard of King Edward IV. Edward managed to be King of England not just once, but twice; from 1461 to 1470, and again from 1471 to 1483.

The other base bears banners and flags of Lord Clifford.

The figures on the Edward base are one each old Glory and one of Bill's Medieval figures; both Clifford figures are Perry from their Hundred Years Wars range, as are the remainder of the figures in this post.

The base to the left  is that of Lord Percy, Earl of Nothumberland.

To the right are the flags of William Neville, Baron Fauconberg and 1st Earl of Kent. He was arguably the best commander of the Wars of the Roses. The magnificent banners are by Pete's flags

I have made no effort to tie the colors to the liveries in any way, except where convenient to do so! :-)

The base to the left is for John Audley.

The main figure colors are reflected in the flowers on their bases as well.

The base to the right bears the banner of Edmund Beaufort, 2nd Duke of Somerset

Not having any blue blowers, he has to make due with lilac hues! His banner bears a Yale upon it, a mythical beast that will be familiar to readers of Bernard Conwell's "Archer" series.

The bzse to the left bears the banner of "The Kingmaker", the Earl of Warwick, Richard Neville.

Opinions of Warwick vary, but there is no denying his power and influence during this era. He was defeated and killed at the battle of Barnet in 1471.

The other base bears the banner of King Richard III.

The white board was a famous badge of King Richard.

Flags added to some units who had been awaiting them.

And few more!  This completes the Wars of the Roses project... at least for now!
