15mm goodies....

Welcome back to my hobby blog. Once again life has had me plate spinning. As a result I have not gotten as much hobby stuff done as I would have liked or found the time to record the bits I have got done here.

One thing I have been plodding along with is some odd and ends for my 15mm science fiction stuff. I like working on the 15s I seem to rattle through my work.

I was at a loose end and felt creative so I decided up knock up a couple of liquid storage towers out of junk laying about. One is for Water and the other for Fuel.

These were quite easy to construct. The tank part are old bottle tops super glued together. The blue one has four bottle tops. The stands are those plastic things you get in take away pizza boxes which are supposed to stop the pizza sticking to the box lid. The pipes are drinking straws and there is some plastic card on the bases.

Another addition is a Mad Max style wasteland cruiser. This was made in anticipation of the vehicular madness that would make a vehicle loon like myself drool (my dream job would be to build these movie vehicles).

The car was a 1-100 scale car which you can bags of off evilbay. I chopped it up and added a mesh window. A mounted machine gun by Brigade gives the rig some fire power. The wheels are resin items by Zinge. I suspect they are supposed to be for 28mm equipment. But the work a treat as sand wheels in 15mm.

This car will see action serving what ever group needs a escort or fast scout.

Every Freetrader needs something to run supplies and crew around. There are plenty of older designs laying about on frontier planets which can be taken and repaired.

This is a Matchbox truck which had a quick repaint.

The Mads tribals have gotten a support vehicle which I will use as a command option for them in Gruntz.

This started life a 1/76 Puma Tank destroyer. I lost the gun added a roof and machine gun from Brigade. Some odds and ends from the bitz box where added to finish.

The 24th Browncoats have another recon vehicle for their force.

The 24th already have one of these so it seemed a good idea to give them a upgunned version. This is a Matchbox Safari landrover with mesh added and cloth doors made from putty. A autocannon from brigade was added for a bit of firepower.

The forces of the Cyberdan got another Mech.

I am not sure what this mini is. But it makes a great robot.

The forces of the New Terra Alliance needed a command option so I built this walker.

Twin autocannons and a multi barreled heavy machine gun should cause the enemy some problems.

The legs are off a Combat Zone Robot, body some sort of GW 40K Tau combat suit. Beads make up the weapon gimbals. The weapons are off the Tau suit and donor plastic robot. Beads and other bits add small details.

That's all for now. Thanks for looking.

15mm Additions

Hello again,

I have been doing a little scale hopping of late. Playing Gruntz has whetted my appetite for 15mm again. So I have been doing odds and ends of 15mm whilst working on 28mm stuff.

Introducing (Captain) Ray Sollestson.

Captain Sollestson operates the Free Trader vessel The Sunburst out of Wolfsden. Whilst he takes mainly trade missions the Captain has also been known to take the odd smuggling or transport job.

The figure is a Free Trader by Ion Age.

Before Christmas my mate Jay on Twitter (@souljacker1974) sent me a 15mm Sherman Tank (cheers Jay). The wee tank got a face lift for use with the 24th Browncoats faction I am building for Wild Galaxy.

When Earth was destroyed and the Empire collapsed many frontier worlds turned to ancient designs that their limited facilities could copy easily. Many designs from the 20th century which where more than a match for the limited weapons that many colonials owned. However these designs fell short when facing well equipped forces from the Galactic Blocks or Nations.  In response these designs where made from better alloys, had additional armor fitted, better power plants, weapons and sensors fitted. This gave the vehicles better survivablity and extra punch although they where still not a match to the vehicles the better funded nations could field. This Sherman III is a example which runs a hydrogen engine that provides much more power than the old 20th century tank's power plant and has a plasma cannon which gives it a fighting chance against better tanks.

The Sherman had its gun removed and a new mantle made from putty. An spare 40K plasma pistol replaced the main gun. A bead was added to the turret top to make the sensors array. The tank body and turret has had rhinestones glued on to serve as extra armor. The original paint got some camouflage to make the tank fit in more with the planetary conditions of Wolfden where the 24th Browncoats are stationed.

Thanks for looking.

15mm New Vehicles

I have been busy knocking up some vehicles for my 15mm forces of Planet Wolfden.

Definitve Colony Systems presents the Camel. The Camel is a All Wheel Drive transporter that is a must for the resupply of your colonial settlement on some far flung world on the edge of Human Inhabited Space.

This is a repainted Matchbox Truck. It is supposed to be some sort of Dinosaur Transporter. A quick paint job and it makes a great supply vehicle.

Vehicles play a big part in patrolling the bad lands and  Outback regions of Wolfden. The 24th Browncoats like tracked or wheeled vehicles. The Scout is a open top light vehicle which probably started life as some sort of colonist transporter. The Browncoats have added extra armor and a twin machine gun. This vehicle can carry up to ten including the crew.

The Scout also carries a 60mm missile launcher for extra punch. The open top of the truck allows me to add figures to it as needed, although the gap is very tight and it takes a wiggle to get the figure in or out. The Scout is a Matchbox Safari Truck and comes with all the groovy equipment as standard.

I have many many more vehicles to chop for the table top. More to come...

24th Browncoats

During the many wars & invasions that has happened across the colonies and independent edge worlds the Confederacy of Independent worlds raised many reg tag looking regiments to fight off various invaders be they pirates, Solar Nations, Corporations or the Galactic Blok nations. Many of these regiments where nicked named "Browncoats" because of the distinctive Brown Coats worn by these freedom fighters.

While Wolfden is not a member of the Confederacy it is a important trade hub for many of the Confederate worlds. To protect Wolfden the 24th "Browncoats" where posted to the world. After a few years the figment disbanded and quite a few fighters stayed on Wolfden forming a Mercenary company in the pay of the World's leader:- Lady Valium. They see various deployments against the Outback and Badlands gangs or as extra muscle for the Wolfden Security Forces.

Group shot:

The figures are 15mm.co.uk Rim Mercenaries.

I see this force as begin quite rag tag mixing equipment and uniform colours. The only thing tying them together is the Browncoat they wear. In the to paint pile is a converted Matchbox vehicle which will serve as a patrol vehicle.

This force will grow as there are more Rim Mercenary packs available from 15mm.co.uk. I am also tempted to mix in some WW2 US GIs and USA Vietnam figures too. In the end I would like this force to be at least Platoon strength as I plan some games of Stargrunt.
