Mini Metalface

Hello and welcome back,

Mini came to in a shack deep in the wastelands with a blinding headache and no memory of who she was, her past or where she was. Things got worse when she reached up to touch her face and Mini touched metal instead of skin. It took a few minutes to find something shiny to see her reflection, the post apocalyptic world doesn’t make these things easy. When she did see the reflection and the shock made her head reel.

Who did this to her and why? Searching the shack she discovered some armour, some supplies and a fancy plasma rifle. Handling the weapon Mini found it familiar. Was it her’s? It must have been. There was blood on the armour and all over the shack. Judging by the horrific state of her head there was a good chance it was her blood.

Mini set off looking for who did this but turned up nothing. Pretty soon she chose an identity and started thinking. Her body had a lot of old scars. Maybe she was a merc who took a shot for someone who knew their way around patching up the wounded? Someone who also knew and had access to old world technology.  This person fixed her up and fled before she recovered, obviously afraid she might not take her new look well.

Mini has given up trying to find her ‘saviour’, instead she wanders the wastelands trying to fix people’s ‘problems’ (usually bandits and raiders). She wandered into Rubbleborg and liked what she sees. Mini signed up to the militia. The world needs some stability and a chance to rebuild. The Borg is doing that.

At night she sits on the walls staring into the wastelands, wondering if the medic who fixed her is out there still.

There is also this objective.

Both figures are by MEP miniatures.

Thanks for looking. Stay safe out there and hope Mini has your back.

Here comes Claw

Hello and welcome back to my blog Wanderer.

Introducing Claw

Claw wandered into Rubbleborg one day and immediately attracted attention. His mirrored face mask made him pretty sinister to look at. Some combat armour, power claws and laser pistol added a further degree of intimidation. But no one stepped up to challenge him. His kit also caused much speculation. Where did he get such old world artefacts? How does he keep them powered? Just who is that masked man?

Since arriving Claw has joined the Rubbleborg Irregulars and has more than proved himself in combat. In fact he appears to dance through the melee which is pretty strange.

Claw is an old 40K Eldar Harlequin from the early 1990’s.

The truth is Claw isn’t human. He is a Genetically Engineered Life Form (GELF) but one so human like most humans can’t tell. Claw is a Fay. The Fay appear human but are more slender, with higher cheekbones, fine looking skin, pointed ears and move with an unusual amount of grace.

The Fay where originally developed as a pleasure GELF. In the ancient times they where used as artists, musicians, dancers, personal assistants (as they are easier on the eye than Grots) and servants to the wealthy. Sadly this saw many of them abused by their owners. Many Fay ended up working as strippers, prostitutes and personal sex slaves. This has lead to many Fay having a mistrust of humans and often displaying very sadistic behaviour.

Originally marketed as the Fay - a name based on old Earth legends, these GELFs  came in all human skin tones, plus many others. Pure white, blue, red and pure black skinned where also popular choices for the wealthy). Many Fay pass as lightly mutated humans in the wastelands. Unlike Trogs and Grots they cannot self replicate. They can easily be grown from their DNA using any medical facility (Fay "birthing" colonies are located near old bunkers or hospitals).

Fay in the wastelands are often secretive about their origins. Often they are on the look out for medical facilities that they can use to propagate their species. Many join raider warbands where their levels of sadism impresses the bosses. As many of them originate in bunkers, labs or hospitals they sometimes carry high tech kit. Some however have reverted to primitive tribalism.

The question remains, just why is Claw in town?

This new type of GELF on Mattblackgod’s world is a way to use up the Elf & Eldar figs I have knocking about. Plus it will allow me to have fun with painting some unusual skin tones.

Thanks for looking and stay safe out there.

The Rubbleborg Irregulars

Ahhh Welcome back Wanderer, treat yourself to a rat on a stick while I tell you about the Rubbleborg Irregulars.

BZZZTTT - THUNK - THUNK- THUNK - BZZZTT is this thing on? Uh? Right!”

The Rubbleborg newly installed tannoy announcement system kicks into life, much to the annoyance of the township’s residents.

Attention Rubbleborg Citizens - this is the first broadcast by your Mayor Bustrd. I have had troubling news that deep in the Blasted Ruins, the mutant cult are rising again. Calm yourselves, news from Trashford indicates that this may be a different cult but intel is sketchy at this point. Hopefully the cult will become a pain for the bloody Brittiannan’s rather than us. Still with a new cult on the horizon and the annoying growth of Brittianna city I think the Borg needs a more permanent defence force so we are forming a permanent full time milita. If you are interested and think you have the stuff to join the Rubbleborg Irregulars go speak to Captain Dunk. T’s n C’s apply. BZZZTTT - THUNK“

This motley lot are the first recruits to the Rubbleborg Irregulars.

Left to Right:

Kara (Grenadier future cop- reworked from my collection), Shorty Drinksonly (classic 40K Rogue Trader figure, newly painted), Skullson (Classic Necromunda Bounty Hunter - a painted eBay find which I rebased) and Fred Tenson (10 figure conversion).

A better look at Shorty Drinksonly. He is a 40K Rouge Trader Adventurer from back in the mists of time. I have been chasing this figure for over 30 years and I found him unpainted on eBay for a decent price. He painted up quickly and was fun to paint.

I plan to expand the Irregulars with some other Classic 40K Oldhammer figures at some point in the future.

Thanks for looking, stay frosty out there.

Maul

Hello and welcome back Wanderer. Pull up a crate and let me tell you about Maul.

Maul drifted into Rubbleborg one dark and stormy night. As he carries a flak cannon the locals decided to leave Maul alone and not ask him to leave. Besides he didn’t really cause any trouble he just has the look an of oncoming storm.

Since his arrival in the township Maul works as muscle or as a mercenary. Work he usually performs with frightening efficiency.

Mayor Bustrd made the mistake of saying the town milita could do with new kit within ear shot of Maul. Maul walked out of town and returned hauling a several sets body armour and weapons. In Brittannia colours, still dripping with blood.

Maul is a Necromunda (2017 Ed) Orlock with a Iron pig head and some bits from the bits box.

Thanks for looking and take care out there.

The gun tower

Hello there Wanderer and welcome back to this little haven in the wastelands of the internet. I am serving up a little bit of terrain in this here blog.

Back in Rubbleborg something catches Smash and Grab’s attention.

“Look Grab, the gun thingy is now looking over the wall”

“How the hell? Ok Smash, look innocent unless you want to be filled with big holes”

“Stop whistling Smash, no one innocent ever whistles”

“Now stop twitching”

Once through the gate Smash and Grab look up to see the new tower.

Inspired by the scaffolding of Ramshackle Games Curtis’ builds I thought I would give it a go. I have been wanting to put some heavy weapons on the fortress walls for a while. Now out in the wastelands grows a form of bamboo which grows incredibly quickly. The wastelanders have discovered this material is handy for all manner of building projects.

The poles are bamboo skewers. An old CD was dug out as a base. Various glues was used to attach them. PVA or hot glue works best. I started putting the ropes to tie them together from brass wire used for hanging pictures. This proved difficult to wrap around the joints. Liberating some copper wire from a scrap electrical flex I found it made better rope. It wraps easier than brass. Spots of pva glue was added just to reinforce the joints. Half way up the tower I added some flooring made from old gift cards.

The tower has been left separate from the gun bunker deliberately so I can use the tower for other things. Either as fortress wall access, sniper platform or access to some other high level point.

In all a fun little project, a little time consuming but it involved some new model making ideas to me. The biggest problem I had building this was keeping my two cats Toffee and Dixie from stealing and playing with the skewers. They think they are brilliant toys.

Thanks for looking. Take care out there.

Gun bunker and wreck.

Hello wasteland Wanderer, welcome back to my blog. I have been on a bit of a terrain kick of late, so expect a few more terrain posts in the next couple of weeks.

Somewhere near the gates of Rubbleborg.....

“Ere Grab, what the hell’s that?”

“What the hell’s what Smash?”

“That big metal thing in the sand with the big scary guns”

“Well Smash, that would be a big metal thing in the sand with big scary guns”

“Should I shoot it?”

“No, those big scary guns will shoot you full of big scary holes. I am guessing that  old Bustrd has got himself a bunker to keep the scum from the gates”

“Do you think we could like, nick it and sell it back to him?”

“No, we need a truck to move it and Bustrd will notice it is his. Then he will get those big scary guns to shoot big holes in us”

This is Rubbleborg’s new gun bunker, set out by the main gate to drive marauders and insurance salesmen away. It is fitted with twin heavy machine guns.

The gun bunker is a vehicle body miscast from Ramshackle games. I added some scrap metal plates from Ramshackle games. The gun was liberated from a GW 40K Landraider which is destined to become a wasteland wreck or whatever my twisted little mind decides.

Some hours later in the wastelands....

“Wow, look Grab! A wreck! Loot! Let’s go check it out!”

“Whoa, hang on Smash. How do you know someone or something doesn’t live there? It seems pretty intact”

“Riggghhhtt”

*cocks shotgun*

“Let’s go Grab”

The wreck is a resin miscast by Ramshackle games. It makes a great bit of wreckage or a home to someone or something unpleasant. A quick paint job and it’s ready to decorate the table.

Painting wise both models got hit with matt black rattlecan primer (I always seem to have some at hand, it’s almost some sort of god like power!). Then a quick chain mail dry brush. Using cheap acrylic paints I made black, brown and orange washes. The models got a wash of each and then another chain mail dry brush. The gun emplacement was left there. The wreck got orange and brown rust stippling added. Then several more brown and orange washes followed by more rust.

It is worth contacting Curtis at Ramshackle games. For a small amount of bottle caps he will send you a box of resin miscasts. The box is usually pretty random depending on what he has been casting recently. The bits are great for making quick bits of terrain like the pieces above. Or as extra terrain embellishment or even a vehicle/conversion (I have at least one vehicle made from miscast bits). All you have to do is drop him a message on the Ramshackle Games site and he will inform you of how to get a box of miscasts. Worth checking it out in my opinion.

Right, that’s all for now. Thanks for looking and stay safe out there.

Gas mask addition

Hello and welcome back.

Introducing Chester. Chester is a low level stalker who hangs around Rubbleborg after the gang he was with was wiped out by rad ghouls in some ruins north east of the ‘borg.

A while back I made a stalker like figure from a Warlord plastic WW2 British Solider. Looking at it I noticed that he needed a gas mask. So the green stuff putty was dragged out and a  mask sculpted on the figure.

All I need to do now is decide what faction he belongs too.

Thanks for looking and take care out there.

More folks of Mattblackgod’s world

Welcome back, long time no post.

Apologies for the radio silence, life has been busy with real life stuff. I have been working on a mixture of figures and a couple of reworks.

So into the figures....

Out in the wastelands there is a old military bunker. This is the home to the faction “the Guardians”. They collect old technology especially weapons to keep it safe and stop its misuse. One of their aims is to protect and relearn the secrets of the past. The other is to educate and help people survive. The Guardians end game is to one day rebuild the world whilst avoiding the mistakes of the past. Unfortunately their operations can cause friction with other factions in the wastelands.

This is Captain Sheila D’Eath. As a ranking officer in the Guardians she is allowed to wear Power Armour.

I cannot remember the figure or line this is from. She has been reworked to look like the armour has come from several sources.

Introducing Imperator Anita Bath of the New Sodom City defence force. She can often be seen leading NSC operations out in the wastelands. Her other job is to act as Immortan Trump’s bodyguard. She is glad of her power armour as Immortan Trump can be a bit handy.

This figure is a rework as she was a officer in the Red Lance force before I retired them. It is a OOP metal Viridian.

Kapo Burns is a mutant hench man of Blubba Max of the Trashford gang.

This figure is Cuss Weerds of the Warlord 2000AD Strontium Dogs line. His hand and gun had snapped off so I grafted a gun hand on I found in the depths of the bits box.

Coming back to Rubbleborg....

Introducing Raging Annie. Annie has serious anger issues and as a outlet she has been directed to join the Rubbleborg Milita by Mayor Bustard. It is either that or have Annie shooting the town up every ten minutes.

The figure is Raging Annie by Bad Squido Games and was a fun figure to paint.

Finally for this lot....

Introducing Clink. Clink is the Rubbleborg jailer and is fond of hooch. He likes roughing up prisoners which sometimes backfires weeks later when he runs into an abused miscreant when drunk in a Rubbleborg sleezy dive.

Clink is part of the Minimus Squat Crew by Ramshackle Games.

The totals so far:

Figures painted:11

Figures reworked:2

Terrain finished: 1

Terrain reworked: 0

Vehicles finished: 1

The totals for this far into year are a lot lower than I hoped. But then that is life.

Thanks for looking and stay safe out there.

Ruston’s crew and more

Hello and welcome back to my blog Wanderer.

Time for some figure updates.

Introducing Stitch.

Stitch is the medic for the Warriors gang from the township of Piean. The figure is a old GW Necromunda Orlock, which is in keeping with the theme of the gang. Stitch has had a gas mask container added as a medical pack.

Moving West from Piean. 10 miles North West across the sands from Rubbleborg lies a strange tower. They say it was once standing in the sea. That has to be a lie, how did the old ones build it under the sea? Not only that but the sea is miles and miles beyond the tower.

Mayor Bustard knows what the tower is or was. It was some sort of natural gas platform. So he convinced a team to go out and try to get the platform operational again. It would be good source of energy for Rubbleborg.

Ruston and his crew have shipped out and are sorting the platform out.

The figures are Dwarves by Ramshackle Games.

Ruston is the crew’s leader. Not much is known about this strange exo armoured Warrior, except he has a short temper and is a great engineer. The figure is a Dwarf Techno Jarl by Ramshackle Games.

Mech Turnkey is the crew’s mech and fix it man. The lone survivor from when his settlement was massacred by raiders he wandered alone and eventually joined the crew. The figure is from Minimus Squat and his crew by Ramshackle Games.

Wreckersen is the team’s muscle. If there is something that needs killing Wreckersen is the Dwarf to do it. The figure is from Minimus Squat and his crew by Ramshackle Games.

Trader Rod Mc Feets is one of Rubbleborg’s many traders. You have to be careful as he will rip you off. The figure is from Minimus Squat by Ramshackle Games.

The 2019 hobby totals so far:

Figures painted: 8
Terrain finished: 1
Terrain reworked: 0
Vehicles finished: 1

Running slow on the painting front thanks to my furry friends. There is more Rubbleborg and Trashford figures to come.

Thanks for reading, take care out there.

Post apocalyptic vehicles.

Hello and welcome back to my blog.

And now for the Xmas eve eve blog post...

Now for some 28mm vehicles. The wastelands are home to all manner of vehicles. Many are cobbled junk heaps together barely recognisable from the vehicle it started out as. Here or there the old vehicle makes it out of the production units of Utopia or Britannia cities. Some vehicles where built near the end but stayed locked away unused in a bunker only see the light of day decades later. Others where built from bits of many other vehicles and wrecks. These are products of the builders twisted imagination and ability to adapt anything to their purpose. Often they mix utility with the bizarre.

This is Mayor Bustrd’s favourite ride. To blow off steam he races it around the wastelands around Rubbleborg. It is his pride and joy. I may have this as a game objective. Steal the car. The car is a Gigapig resin model from Antenocitis workshop. It is a super detailed model.

There are a number of vehicles in Rubbleborg, many of which are built in it’s workshops from the many items the scavengers and salvage teams.

Many vehicles are armoured up trucks which the locals use to haul loot from various locations in the wastelands. The trucks are handy for moving trade items from place to place. This is a Badger by Ramshackle Games. I have been wanting one since Ramshackle first started casting models. Now it’s mine....all mine...ha ha hhhaaaa.

The  Badger has a skull hood Ornament that I sculpted from putty.

There are a few smaller vehicles used as escorts or for scouting. This is a Ram Stoat by Ramshackle Games.

Everyone has heard of the legend of Max, the Road Warrior (also known as the man with no name, the raggity man and blood bag amoung other names) and his mighty ride, the Interceptor. This car is a 1/43 scale model by Autoart. I dirtied it up with some dry brushing. I did try to copy the movie car but the dirt on it was too heavy to look realistic on a car of this size.

Bandits use various vehicles and this car is a typical bandit ride.

The car is the chase car from the opening scene of Mad Max 2 the Roadwarrior. This car is a 1/43 scale model by Autoart. I dirtied it up with some dry brushing. I got them both as a set. Luckily I managed to get them for the prices they where before Fury Road came out. Auto Art also made some dirty cars but they are even more expensive and look like they have been in a mud wumping competition rather than racing across the wastelands. The dirt is painted on too heavily for my tastes.

I will be including the vehicles in my paint totals...

Figures painted: 27....73 short.

Thanks for looking, take care out there.
