Wasteland Cargo Haulers

Hello and welcome back.

With all the Ash Wastes and cargo haulers noise out in hobby land at the minute here is some scrap haulers I made earlier. About 10 to 15 years earlier.

This hauler was built as a scrap built runner. The original kit was a 1/24 half track hotrod kit I got as a unwanted Christmas gift.

The frames are all made from the kits sprues. The rear floor is recycled gift cards. Bits of the kit was reused as panels. The cannon is from Ramshackle games. The helmeted skull on top came from the original kit.

The convoy rolls out looking for loot.

The convoy returns with a captured Black on Black.

Then there is this beasty, known as the Thunderchild. It started as a 1/32 Ural truck. I like using 1/32 and 1/35 kits for 28mm Sci Fi conversions. The extra size makes them look better. Plus there is more room for bases.

I left off the doors and built a new bonnet/hood. The platform is built from platformer kits. Some old Ork Bolters were added on plinths to keep the mutants at bay. The towing rig is scratch built from plastic I beams and the hook salvaged from a toy. The front ram is from a old 40K Rhino kit.

Sadly this model has got an bit fragile with age and needs some repair. The platform is a little loose and now sits with a tilt. The rear axles have also come loose. Not sure if I should repair it or recycle the model for my future Post Apoc land train plans.

But there is more. This monster began life as a 1/35 M113 APC kit. Insanely this kit was cheaper than the GW Rhino at the time. I managed to grab a load of Meccano wheels cheap on evilbay. They where fitted instead of the usual tracks. The back platform was fitted was the rear hatch fixed as permanently open for stashing loot. The side racks are granny grating and filled with junk from the bits box.

Lots of bits, packs and other stowage cover this crawler. One advantage of being a old military modeller is that the bits box is pretty deep. I have to say that the M113 conversion is one of my favourite models. It needs more table time I think.

Thanks for looking

Take care out there.

Necrollusc

So we was scavenging in the old ruins and found these old hab blocks that looked pretty much untouched. We started to scope the blocks out, getting excited about our big find when Smash stepped in this trail of thick sticky slime. He couldn’t move his foot. It was horrible and we managed to get his boot out after a few minutes of swearing. The boot started to melt a couple of hours later. Real toxic sludge that was.

As I waited for Smash to put his boot back on and stop swearing we heard it. This horrible noise like man flu nose only much, much louder. There looking at us was this horrible giant mutant snail. A Necrollusc as the tribal legends call them. We thought they where scare stories but there was this great ugly thing looking at us. It’s eyes popping out on stalks, swivelling this way and that with a hungry look. Weird I tell you. It may be why no one has looted these blocks.

It raised up showing rows of teeth on its underside. What sort of critter has it’s mouth on its foot? Just too freaky. That was it, we legged it. Not too quick at first, I mean just how fast does a snail go? You can walk faster. Not the Necrollusc, this thing was gaining on with us. Panicked we ran quicker and were starting to out run it when two more moved in from side streets in front of us. I guess they must have been trying to catch us in a pincer movement. I thought snails was dumb? Running even faster we just managed to get through the trap.

We kept running and the Necrollusc’s chased us. Our chests felt like they where going to explode. We didn’t stop until we cleared the ruins and then some. I don’t know when they gave up, but I am glad they did. Smash still has bad dreams of those things chasing him.

The Necrolluscs are by Thunderchild Minatures as part of their Wasteman range.

Thanks for looking and keep a eye open for Necrolluscs.

The Church of Mutation

Hello and welcome back to my blog Wanderer. Today we are looking at some news from the township of Trashford in the Blasted Ruins.

Wanted ALIVE in the Township of Trashford in connection to the recent spate of murders, kidnappings, abductions and mayhem across the blasted ruins.

“Mootation is the future, it is the way humanity will receive salvation, it is the way we will SURVIVE! MUTATE AND SURVIVE PEOPLE! MUTATE....AND....SURVIVE! It is the will of the Mattblackgod.”

This is the Preecher Moot - he wanders the ruins trying to recruit mutants and the unmutated if possible to his cause The Church of Mutation. They dislike the unmutated and worship the more extreme mutations. While the unmutated are frowned upon they have not been seen to actively do anything violent towards them. However there are reports of cult members kidnapping or abducting non mutants. It is not known what happens to the abductees. All that is known is that the cult’s numbers are growing. Trashford while populated largely by mutants are becoming concerned about the cult and missing people.

The reality is that the cult have discovered a vat of mutagenic sludge in a basement in the ruins. They are kidnapping people without mutations or light mutations and dropping them into the vat to cause further mutation. The recruit is left to their own steam to get out of the vat but will be eventually be dragged out if they have been in too long. They are no good dead. As the cult nurse the victims back to “health” they are indoctrinated into the cult’s ways. One lucky side effect of a dip in the sludge is that it causes amnesia. The cult better hope that those they have mutated don’t regain their memories.

Preecher Moot is a Unwelcome Guest figure from the Wasteman range by Thunderchild miniatures. These rock in at 36mm ish high and tower over 28mm figures. Thankfully this guy is a mutant so I can get away with the extra height. Paint wise I followed the same scheme as the figure on the Thunderchild site. Simply because I don’t get to paint purple very often. I added a heart to his mug as a salute to El Kaptian from the Romantically Apocalyptic web comic.

Thanks for looking and beware the Church of Mutation.

Wasteman rules

Welcome back to my blog.

I spotted that the Wasteman rules have been released by Thunderchild. I had to get them.

The rules look like they will be good fun. Lots of sci fi silliness that reminds me of Fallout played with the wackiness turned on. It looks ideal for my games. It needs vehicle rules and possibly some campaign rules.

I have been drawing up specs for these gangs (syndicates). One drawn from the Bandits and one from the Law bringers.  Sometime soon I hope to get the Warboys to have a tussle with Chip's Crew from Greasy Poon.

Thanks for looking, take care out there.

Into the Undercity Pt2 - Terrain

I have been working on some Undercity terrain for beneath the mean streets and Mega Blocks of Utopia City.

The undercity consists of many domes, caverns and lost cities that was buried when the City was built and as it expanded to become a megacity. Huge towers loom up into the darkness holding the dome and cavern ceilings up.

The tower is an ex pringles tube. The base is a cork pan coaster with the edges nibbled to make it look like a rocky outcrop. The graffiti is inspired by the Metro 2033 Novel.

The platforms are made card and bits from the depths of the bits box. The ladder is scratch built from coffee stirrers and match sticks.

Beware the strange green mold growing every where. It can cause strange illness'. Some strange wastelander has tagged this tower.

I have some of Mantic's Deadzone terrain sets knocking about. It is ideal for an undercity on a world that used starships to colonize it.

Here is a security outpost.

No security outpost would be complete without a barricade.

Okay not quite Undercity but it is Post Apoc. A bed from Thunderchild Miniatures.

The Warboys want a kip but are not too sure if the occupant will mind.

Thanks for looking.

Mega Rad Bugs!!!

The lands around Greasy Poon are toxic and are the source of many mutants. Mutations occur in most life forms.

These bugs are a menace to the Mutants of Greasy Poon and to anyone crossing the wastes. There is a plus in that the bugs usually cook up okay. Apparently they (usually) taste like chicken.

The bugs are from Thunderchild Miniatures and painted up quickly.

Next up....more gangers of Greasy Poon. That's if I can stay away from the 15mm toys.

Greasy Poon.

Look down at the world. The world of the mattblackgod. A world surrounded by mines and weapons platforms. A world that maimed itself and was nuked from orbit to stop its plagues from spreading off world. A world left to die. A world that didn't die completely. Life struggles on even in the harshest conditions.

Look down at the lights, at the Mega City of Utopia. A city that survived the wars and the nukes with laser weapons and force generators. Here is a shining gem of technology on the world. It is hoped that they can save there dying world.

Moving towards the sun rise away from Utopia we are crossing hundreds of miles of barren wastelands of Rosstralia. Not much survives here. Then we pass the occasional settlement or mutated critters. In some places wasteland warlords fight over resources. After thousands of miles we eventually reach some low hills. In those hills lies a fairly prosperous settlement called Greasy Poon.

Looking out to the sun rise lies swamp lands and jungles which are highly toxic. Those lands where at the bottom of the sea and are known as the blight. After thousands of miles of these diseased lands you will reach the Ash Wastes on the Tri Continent.

Lets return to the township of Greasy Poon. These lands are highly toxic and there are few in these parts who do not have some sort of mutation. Greasy Poon lies in what was some sort of amusement park and is set up in what was the park's food courts which is how it got it's name. The township is ruled over by Bangers and Smash. They work as a unit and are pretty mean.

Smash is the big guy and Bangers is a the brains of the operation. Bangers got his name from his love of shooting things. Smash likes to smash stuff. They make a pretty effective combat unit. Smash can throw rusting hulks of old cars like they are a bar stool.

Smash is a mutant from Thunderchild Miniatures and Bangers is a monkey from Ramshackle miniatures. This figure was a mis cast Curtis slipped in. All that was missing was the gun. A GW Space Marine Pistol was grafted on.

This guy was inspired by a certain pair in a certain Post Apoc movie, I am sure you will know.

I added a papoose from putty to hold Bangers. Some armour was added to stop the brains of the operation getting popped off.

A close up of Bangers.

A size comparison of Smash. This figure is about 60mm tall!

Now no Warlord stays top of the food chain without a couple of sidekicks to keep them informed. Bangers and Smash uses a couple of Bangers' brothers - Curry & Rice.

Curry & Rice hang around the township picking up information that they think their Brother will need to know. Of course if trouble arrives Curry & Rice have Bangers back.

These monkeys are from Ramshackle Games.
