McFarlane NHL - Chicago Blackhawks

As I've been selling off many of my McFarlane Sports Pick figures, I've retaken photos of them. Many of these, I took photos back before good iPhone cameras.

Braden Holtby - The Save - Stanley Cup Finals

The net was wide open. Braden Holtby, goalie for the Washington Capitals lunged to his right and blocked the point blank shot with his stick. The Caps would go on the win the Stanley Cup this year and that Save was the defining moment.

I stopped collecting hockey figures once McFarlane stopped making them. Dragon Imports filled the void. After the Stanley Cup win, I looked for any Washington figures. I know Ovechkin is popular. Was happy to see Holtby.

The funny thing was - he arrived with his head off. Holtby never lost his head in the playoffs.

Dragon Imports Hockey Toews vs Ovechkin

Just like the baseball figures, Dragon Imports seems to have taken over the 6 inch sports figure space from McFarlane for the NHL hockey line. Two of the recent additions include two teams I follow - the Chicago Blackhawks (where I grew up) and Washington Capitals (where I live today).

Back to My Roots - Jigsaw Puzzles - San Jose Sharks

This blog started as a compilation of my toy dioramas which I turned into puzzles, many moons ago. It's been awhile since I built one. Last night - since I haven't had internet at my house for eight days. I found other ways to be more productive.

Anyway, this is a simple diorama of three San Jose Sharks McFarlane figures and the McFarlane ice rink. I like how the figures reflect off the ice.

Players include Jonathon Cheechoo, Evgeni Nabokov, and Joe Thornton.

Chicago Blackhawks Photo Puzzle

It's been 49 years since the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup. That all changed with a great playoff run in 2010 and an improbable goal in OT by Patrick Kane to win it all. In honor of the Stanley Cup champions and the other former players of the Blackhawks organization, here is the McFarlane Sportspicks puzzle I made with the Chicago greats. Included in the photo puzzle is Jonathon Toews, Chris Chelios, Bobby Hull, Jocelyn Thiebault, Tony Esposito, Nikolai Khabibulin, Tony Amonte, Bobby Orr, Stan Mikita and Jonathan Toews in his white jersey.

The Patrick Kane figure was released later. Also released this season is a Marty Turco goalie in red jersey, and white jersey variant. Coming next fall is a new version of Toews and Kane, including Toews holding up the Stanely Cup. Can't wait!

McFarlane Washington Capitals Jigsaw Puzzle

Washington DC has become a hockey town! The Caps are the hottest ticket in town and the Raise the Red theme nights are thunderous. In this latest puzzle you have Olaf Kolzig as the goalie, Jaromir Jagr and then 4 red and white variant versions of Alex Ovechkin, the star of the Caps. Since this puzzles creation, McFarlane has also released anothe Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, and a 12 inch Ovechkin. Another Ovechkin is on the horizon for the start of the 2011-2012 season. As long as it's not against the Blackhawks, hoping the Caps bring home the cup this season.
