TOY FAIR 2019 - FAIRly Satisfied

So how did we – or how did the toy companies do? See my prediction original post from last week.
My predictions or recommended resolutions are on par with my picks for the NFL playoffs. See my January posts.

Special mention to Super7 and Hasbro Marvel Legends. In my opinion, they won Toy Fair this year.

Super7 showed off some awesome new ReAction figures. Aliens!!! Finally! And Robocop! And more Planet of the Apes! And even Beavis and Butthead. I got a chuckle out of those. Check out the photos from Toyark.com.

Hasbro Marvel Legends – so much goodness as usual and some really fun surprises. Luis and Ghost from Ant Man and Wasp, and Corg and GamesMaster from Thor: Ragnarok. Love it.
So here we go!

Photos from TOYARK

Jazwares

  • Fortnite Series 2? Well, they showed a new 6 inch and 12 inch scale figure but no 4 inch scale though it is coming. So that’s good.

Hasbro

  • Work with Target and Walmart to fix your distribution issues. – Who knows?
  • Keep going with the Black Series – make as many releases like Wave 19. That was beautiful. – No real surprises. Everything has already been announced.
  • More aliens from Solo movie - Nope
  • Vintage Collection Star Wars - cool new figures and love the Jabba palace playset. Hints of Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary next year.
  • Disown the Kessel Run Millenium Falcon – a public apology might be nice – of course not
  • Stop the Midnight Madness – no one cares anymore, and show some stuff during Toy Fair. Waiting for SDCC is ridiculous. No one cares about secrecy anymore. – Still more secrecy. Triple Force Friday in the fall though for three Star Wars properties.
  • Have a great lineup for Epsiode 9 – Gotta wait until Celebration or SDCC.
  • A 6 inch scale Indiana Jones line – Wishful thinking.
  • 6 inch scale Black Series for GI Joe – it’s long overdue, and regardless how militant the 3-3/4’ collectors are – everything has been done and the line needs some energy injected into it. I honestly don’t understand why this hasn’t happened yet.
  • Marvel Legends – finish the original Alpha Flight team – really, that’s all I want. Marvel Legends rocks. A few more Netflix Daredevil figures would be great while you’re at it. No Alpha Flight (except Guardian) and no new Netflix figures but plenty of goodness. See above in my special mention.

Mattel

  • Keep up the great work with the Jurassic Park line. Maybe a few more human figures and stop short packing them. Thanks! – I didn’t see any new humans but cool new dinos including Indominus Rex and a huge Brachiasaurus.

McFarlane

  • Bring back 5 inch Walking Dead line. – Nope.
  • Do a 5 inch Fear the Walking Dead line.  Nope
  • Keep doing Stranger Things figures. Nancy and Jonathan please. Another Eleven and Hopper for Season 3 but nothing actually displayed.
  • If you’re going to do Game of Thrones, please release more than Series 1. No mention of Series 2.
  • Do your WW2 McFarlane Military figures. – More wishful thinking.
  • Stop the NFL repaints of the same figures. At least do different players, I don’t care if it is the same mold. OK – so a bit of a win here. Nothing displayed but the 2020 lineup is really nice. Few repeats.

NECA

  • More Marines from Aliens – which means the actors need to resolve to release their likenesses. No, though we are getting Parker from Alien.
  • The rest of the soldiers from the original Predator – ditto above. Nope.

Funko

  • Bring back Walking Dead mini-figures. Need Negan and his crew. And now we have Whisperers. – Unfortunately no.
  • More 3-3/4 scale Game of Thrones figures – so much potential.  Nope.

Super7

  • Figures from the Dark Crystal series - no
  • Finish the Goonies and Star Trek - no
  • Original Battlestar Galactica figures - no
  • Red Dawn figures (Original Red Dawn) – no
  • Friends – no
  • But oh so much goodness coming. Check it out again.

Mezco

  • Release Series 3 and 4 of Heroes – or place these in Blake Wright’s Toys That Time Forgot Volume 3. Nope. Though Volume 2 was funded yesterday! Sweet!

Anyone

  • 6 inch scale Indiana Jones line - No
  • Someone finish releasing the Bridge Direct Hobbit figures – Ha!
  • Someone good with a 3D printer make more GI Joe Combat Heroes – please?
  • Finish Palisades Muppets and Sesame Street line - no

LEGO

  • Muppets - no
  • Disney Tinkerbell and her buddies – no

MEGO

  • Friends - no

LANARD

  • More Dino Wranglers – who knows. Not sure if they attend Toy Fair.

Four Horsemen – don’t change. Keep doing your wonderful stuff. And when is the Mythic Legion Space series coming? – Don’t think they attend Toy Fair.

Playmobil – keep doing what you are doing or try a few more licenses – Star Wars? Does Playmobil attend? Don’t know.

Toys R Us – come back but make sure your previous owners and investors are in jail. Yeah right.

Target and Walmart
Fix your distribution as well as fill in the empty spaces of your toy aisle – still empty.
Restock after Christmas – geez, you’re starting to look like Kmart – aisles look like a shit show.

Walgreens – keep doing Walking Dead figures – thank you! – Nothing announced.

Late New Years Resolutions but in Time for Toy Fair

I was going to post this tomorrow but since things are leaking out, I figured I'd get ahead of the curve.

===

I meant to do this at the start of the new year, but never had time to collect my thoughts and write them down. Now with Toy Fair just days away, I figured I’d post my resolutions – or rather, what I think the companies out there should resolve to do in 2019.

Jazwares
Knocked it out of the park with Fortnite figures. Even though I don’t play the game, they came out with a nice first series of 13 figures that blend in well with GI Joe style figures. Resolution – please give us Series 2 and 3.

Hasbro
Work with Target and Walmart to fix your distribution issues.
Keep going with the Black Series – make as many releases like Wave 19. That was beautiful.
More aliens from Solo movie
Disown the Kessel Run Millenium Falcon – a public apology might be nice
Stop the Midnight Madness – no one cares anymore, and show some stuff during Toy Fair. Waiting for SDCC is ridiculous. No one cares about secrecy anymore.
Have a great lineup for Epsiode 9
A 6 inch scale Indiana Jones line
6 inch scale Black Series for GI Joe – it’s long overdue, and regardless how militant the 3-3/4’ collectors are – everything has been done and the line needs some energy injected into it

Mattel
Keep up the great work with the Jurassic Park line. Maybe a few more human figures and stop short packing them. Thanks!

McFarlane
Bring back 5 inch Walking Dead line.
Do a 5 inch Fear the Walking Dead line.  That ship has sailed but there are a few great characters.
Keep doing Stranger Things figures. Nancy and Jonathan please.
If you’re going to do Game of Thrones, please release more than Series 1.
Do your WW2 McFarlane Military figures.
Stop the NFL repaints of the same figures. At least do different players, I don’t care if it is the same mold.

NECA
More Marines from Aliens – which means the actors need to resolve to release their likenesses.
The rest of the soldiers from the original Predator – ditto above.

Funko

Super7
Figures from the Dark Crystal series
Finish the Goonies and Star Trek
Original Battlestar Galactica figures
Red Dawn figures (Original Red Dawn)
Friends  - the tv show

Chicken Fried Toys
Finally release your Dime Novel Legends figures – Kickstarter ended in 2016. I know we are close. Just want my western figures.

Mezco
Release Series 3 and 4 of Heroes – or place these in Blake Wright’s Toys That Time Forgot Volume 3

Anyone
6 inch scale Indiana Jones line
Someone finish releasing the Bridge Direct Hobbit figures
Someone good with a 3D printer make more GI Joe Combat Heroes

Walgreens – keep doing Walking Dead figures – thank you!

Playset Magazine – thank you for continuing to do print. Love it!

Fellow Bloggers – keep doing what you are doing. Even though technology changes the audience and channel, and even if I don’t always comment, I love seeing what everyone is up to.

Three Wishes for Toy Fair

I only ask for three things this Toy Fair.

1. Six inch Black Series GI Joe: A Real American Hero: Let's start with Wave 1: Snake Eyes, Stalker, Cobra Soldier, Destro, Scarlett, Ship Wreck (I hate Ship Wreck but he's so iconic). Wave 2: Roadblock, Duke, Cobra Commander, Flint, Flash, Baroness

2. NECA Aliens Colonial Marines: Apone, Drake, Dietrich, Lieutenant Gorman, Ferro

3. Marvel Legends Alpha Flight: Marina, Shaman, Snowbird, Northstar and Aurora (We already have Guardian, Sasquatch, Puck)

What would you wish for?

Toy Fair 2010: Mattel

No photographs allowed. Bummed cause wanted to bring back some photos of Barbie and Disney Princesses for my little girl. However, there was a display of the Barbie Black Basics line. I've seen this at Target. It's sold out. Grab them if you can.

Toy Fair 2010: Big Freakin Plane

This was a 1:18 scale F-14 fighter jet by Merit Toys. It was HUGE! Retails for about $249. It was about two feet long. Detailing was incredible, down to the turbines in the jet engine.

Toy Fair 2010: Educational and Plush

Saw some cool plush animal dealers at Toy Fair. Here are a few. Lubies and Apple.

Toy Fair 2010: Barbie's New Occupation

There was a contest to see what new occupation Barbie would take on this year. Two large billboards outside the Javitz Center had some possibilities. The final result was "Computer Engineer." Welcome to the world of off-shoring Barbie.

Toy Fair 2010: Where the Wild Things Are

These PVC figures were about 12 inches tall each. Incredible detail. They were in the Diamond Select booth. Think they retail about $35 each.

Toy Fair 2010: NECA Miscellaneous

The new Jonah Hex movie, Terminator, Predator, Clash of the Titans and Harry Potter.

Toy Fair 2010: NECA Gears of War

Nice new NECA lineup for Gears of War along with a great diorama set up. Series 6 should have some awesome Locust bad guys.

Toy Fair 2010: McFarlane

Not a lot of new items at McFarlane than is already out in the stores. Some HALO, some current and upcoming Sports Picks. The new 4 inch Playmaker baseball figures. Talked to the one guy manning the booth and suggested an encyclopedia per sport or city/state. Most collectors don't have anymore room to display.

Toy Fair 2010: Miscellaneous Diamond Select

A few miscellaneous Star Wars and femme fatale statues at the Diamond Select booth.

Toy Fair 2010: DC Direct

DC is doing a great job building a great collection for secondary store markets (comic shops) without going to the big box store. More expensive, but at least they are creating figures fans want without being at the mercy of what the big box stores want on their shelves. The Blackest Night figures are awesome. Interesting story.
