Chew It

This was my Uncle "Siggi" aka Siegfried.

Right after WWII he got that house - the cellar was never good, always water in there.
Us kids played there. We made boats.

I so (could) cry...
"Geramont" was likely expensive back then? We made our boats with this.

Chewing gum.
He said it´s "left-over" from his work at the factory (ohhhh, just think of this as, say, five-year-olds, to work at such a factory!!! Chewing gum!!)....

He died of cancer. Uncle Siggi - you tucked in kids others made, you were full of love for everyone and life kicked you like that...

When in times of deep trouble don´t you dig in old family-stuff, too?

I hardly really rememeber him.
But his sweet kindness.

His kids?
Well. After my Mum left they shortly got into contact (my cousins, right) - who´s fault ever, it never worked.
They´re kinda like... not me.

Even though I´m taking a time out right now - I´ve been working all my life.
As a kid, as teenager and as an adult.
Don´t jugde me.
My parents always took care I never ever take for granted what they did achieve (unlike said cousins).

Hmmm... those colourful balls of chewing gum - I still wonder where he got those?
I kinda bet he did not work at a chewing ball company, do you?

I had 24 Aunts and Uncles, with just 3 left now and not for much longer since they are in their late 90s. My Christmas card book is full of scratching out. I have 49 first cousins some I have never met and many I would not recognise if I passed them in the street now we have all got old. We live all over the place and mostly catch up at funerals. Families are a funny thing.

Oh, you top me by far, Joan!
My Mum had 6 living siblings and my Dad one.
Wow, and still you are right - most of my cousins could walk right past me and I would not even recognise them, how sad! But old we all get - luckily!!! :-)

You made me think a bit here Iris! I have no uncles or aunts left now. About seven first cousins, numerous second cousins, nieces, nephews, great niece and nephews. Two lovely sisters. Family wise I think I'm doing well and I'm pretty sure I would know them if I passed them in the street 😀

No judgments.

And Uncle Siggy sounds like a great guy. True -- there are bits that have fallen out of memory, the specifics, but I so remember the humor or kindness or pranks and love from my aunts and uncles, even if some of the details are fuzzy. Good food for thought here.

Well, Grace. What can I say. I lost so many Aunts. It´s the time passing, right.
And to be true... I do not know if I´d recognise relatives. Sad as that is.

Oh, Jeanie, yes, pranks - how do we love those (in the aftermath)!!!
I truly miss them and maybe I just should try and say hello to some...

Nice to remember about family that is gone, specially if they were nice people.
Luckily I have a close knit family but we are all spread out and keep in touch via emails, facebook, etc.

Sami you are the only person I know who has that wonderful kind of family!!! If I was childish I´d be jealous ;-)
I adore, though!

My dad had one brother and one sister, while my mother had three sisters. On my dad's side there are cousins I've never met, while there's a large number of cousins on my mother's side.

How come you never met your cousins?
Well, I guess at our age it does not matter anymore - or... does it? If not too far away... be the first to make contact? Who knows... maybe ...?
