Friday Bliss #162 - Colorful Weekend!

I made the last garden bouquet of the season using Sedum Herbstfreude and grass
Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster’ - and added color with a big scarf.

This is the 9th garden bouquet or arrangement of the season.
Above a collage of some others and this flower heart was the first in May.

ART FOR THE WEEKEND
This wooden harlequin was found at Ars Nova, Turku.
Unfortunately the artist is unknown to me.

Friday Bliss #154 - Glimpses Back to Summer

During our visit to Kustavi we stopped at Mietoinen where my husband spent
his childhood summers. This farmhouse belonged to hubby’s grandfather Malakias
who had to leave his home in Karelia after the war. Malakias cultivated the fields
around the house and raised a big family of 12 children.  Today it is difficult to understand
how they  all fitted to this small house.

Hubby’s cousin’s son is now living in the house, but he has a construction business,
no cultivating anymore.

This week I combined white chrysanthemums to late summer garden flowers.

Wishing you all a relaxing & sunny weekend, stay well & healthy!

Friday Bliss #151 - August Impressions

I made a garden bouquet for a long time. July was too dry to inspire bouquets.
When the heat wave is gone it feels like autumn: birch leaves lie on the grass
but many perennials have recovered well from the draught and phloxes are in bloom.
I combined dry Lunaria annua seedheads - I don’t have the patience to peel them.

I normally just throw the coins on to the ground, wrere a little bit of
bare soil can be seen. There they’ll grow, easy!

Blogger Post from Viola ❤︎

Perhaps I have luck in love, as I never win anything.
But to my surprise I won this cute RitterSPORT purse in a give away at Viola’s blog
Familie Barwitzki. The purse is so well done with zipper and lining!
Viola lives in Dresden and I got also two beautiful Dresden postcards. All I know about Dresden
is that it was totally demolished by bombings during the World War II.

Thank you so much Viola - the purse is so nice and cute!

The tiny purse is turquoise on the other side, red on the other.

I’ll share also my garden bouquet of the week. It is sunny depicting the hot weather.
I wish you all enjoy the summer to the fullest!

Friday Bliss #143 - Family Celebration

This week’s garden bouquet is a colorful & joyful one.
I combined a bit of this and that what is blooming right now.

In Finland high school / college graduates get their white student cap after the examination.
Four years ago we celebrated the graduation party of my granddaughter Helmi
last Saturday it was her brother Hannes’ turn. The tall & handsome grandson will have
a year off because he has to think what he wants to study. In these four years Helmi finished
her phsychology studies in Aberdeeen. My congratulations to both of them!

The celebration took place this time too at Fanjunkars Cottage in Siuntio. The totally rebuilt cottage
is historically important as one of our most important writers, Aleksis Kivi
lived here between 1864 - 1871. His landlady was Miss Charlotta Lönnqvist who offered
home and creating peace for this poor writer. Those years at Fanjunkars were the most productive
in Kivi's life. He wrote there also his famous novel Seven Brothers.
In the cottage there is a museum room showing portraits and the desk of Kivi.

I said before that the cottage was totally rebuilt. The reason is that after the war it remained
in the area that had to be rented to the Soviet Union. Sadly under those years the cottage
got ruined, only the stone foundation was left. The idea to rebuild Fanjunkars Cottage
lived for long and gladly finally in 2003 the construction could be started.
Three years later this pretty culture house was ready.

This kind of mobile decorations made of straw are traditional
Christmas decorations in Finland, even today.

Hannes with his mother Elli, my sweet daughter-in-law and some guests.
It was a gorgeous sunny day and we enjoyed the party very much. I am not in the photos,
but here one of Hannes’ pretty little cousins.

Thank you for all the lovely comments you leave week after week at Friday Bliss.
Wishing you all a bright & sunny weekend!

Friday Bliss #142 - Tulips & Roses

For today I made a round summer bouquet with yellow roses and combined forget-me-not
and magic & dramatic black tulip Queen of the Night.
I know that this is an odd combination, but I wanted roses to celebrate my grandson Hannes
who will get his white student cap tomorrow. So lovely to assist the family gathering
after so many months - let’s party!

I promised to tell my experience of the new tulips I planted in the autumn.
Here are my recommendations. I like very much the dramatic Queen of the Night.

The flaming red above is Purple Doll, very beautiful with striped petals and lily form.
On the right Groenland the flower of which is pretty small. Don’t especially like it.
I’ll try to find more of Purple Dolls in the autumn!

These low tulips are highly recommendable. They have both beautiful variegated foliage,
the red one is Esperanto and the pale pink China town.

Both of these yellow tulips are highly recommendable.
On the left Akebono with big and heavy blooms. That is why they should be planted
in an open space, so that they get light from everey direction. I planted them in a wrong place,
a house corner and they bended towards the light. On the right beautiful Spring Green.

To finish a night vision. We have some solar lights on the terrace
and they look fine in the dark.

Thank you for all the lovely comments you leave week after week at Friday Bliss.
Wishing you all a weekend!
