"Bajo Bongo" is the premiere musical performance at the Nova Scena of the ROMA Musical Theatre. It stars . Today, more than 60 years after her disappearance from Polish stages and concert halls, not everyone recognizes her name. However, humming "Kochany, kochany, liecą z nieba..." ("Dear, dear, they are flying from heaven...") is enough, and the person you're talking to not only finishes the verse of the popular song but continues singing with a smile. And then, almost enthusiastically, asks about the singer. Why did Natasza Zylska so suddenly, at the peak of her fame, abandon her career?
The characters in "Bajo Bongo," directed by Anna Wieczur, introduce us to her in a way that is at times humorous, at times reflective. The story is illustrated with the most famous hits from her repertoire, newly arranged by Jakub Lubowicz. These include "Chestnuts," "Mexicana," "Chocolate," and the title track, "Bajo Bongo." Although these songs were perceived as frivolous during the raging Stalinist era, Natasza Zylska herself was a lady – intelligent, witty, a little wild, and always discreet. Only now has she decided to tell us about her not-so-long life, inviting us on a musical journey to years rightly and hopefully irrevocably gone.
