The piece:
The GDR, beginning of the eighties. Gabi's courage is sweet 16 and has great dreams: Get out of the domestic new babble plate, get away from the provincial mud, and, most importantly, finally, no gray mouse in wisent rivets and money-money sneakers. But a real Schlagerstar with glitter fiddle and all Pipapo! And indeed: After their victory in the talenteshow "Sprungbrett" is for Gabi correct off. But no career without the right contacts - certainly not in the GDR. The eerie Stasi-Werner is from now on Gabi's constant companion and "a bit of listening" in the order of socialism belongs now necessarily to it. After all, the enemy lurks everywhere - fatally also in the form of Gabi's best friend Hella. She was already at school as a traitor and is now actively involved in the citizens movement Neues Forum. And then - right in the middle of the long-awaited gig at "Ein Kesselbuntes" - the change and in a flash everything is completely different. Since Gabi's "Berufsausweis für Schlagergesang" does not do much more. Especially not when your own Stasi activities fly around your ears ...
Will Gabi Courage be able to reconcile herself (and her fans) with her own past - and with her friend Hella? And will she be able to do it again in the reunited Germany on the very big show stage?
Kathi Damerow know Schmidt fans mainly through the St. Pauli musical "Heiße Ecke": almost 2 million viewers are now among others as inimitable snack bar owner Margot in the Schmidt's TIVOLI have experienced. Now she brings her first solo piece to the stage - and takes over the title role herself. Directed by Kathis former "Hot corner" colleague Maarten Flügge. The music (including some sleazy Schlager-Ohrwürmer) comes from Lukas Nimscheck, who recently won the Hamburg Musikpreis with his band Your Friends. For the 27-year-old, it is the first musical composition.
