In honor of William Shakespeare, who was born 450 years ago, the Bad Hersfeld Festival will play KISS ME, KATE this summer. The director of the renowned festival, Holk Freytag, has even more reasons for choosing the musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter: “But the piece is also one of the great classics of the musical. Bad Hersfeld has now - also thanks to the work of my predecessor Elke Hesse - acquired the reputation as one of the leading musical locations in the Federal Republic. This year, too, some of the best musical performers, led by Katharine Mehrling (represented in some dates by Milica Jovanovic) and Thomas Borchert, are on the stage of the monastery ruins. "
And so the confusion can begin behind and on the stage of a theater group that wants to perform THE REPERSIVE TAME. The divorced couple Fred Graham (Thomas Borchert) and Lilli Vanessi (Katherine Mehrling, alternating: Milica Jovanovic) are supposed to appear as Petruchio and Kate in a "musical" version of the REINVERSING TAME. Fred woos the young actress Lois with flowers, among other things but accidentally ends up in Lilli's cloakroom. At the same time, two men appear who want to collect gambling debts. The result is a mixture that is enjoyable for the audience, which extends to the stage of the acting troupe. In addition, the ensemble amuses with local and regional references, because Stefan Huber has also moved the situation of this theater troupe in the play directly to Bad Hersfeld in order to add another one to the double theater-in-theater level with a little wink.
