Sybou's last stand in Albion (1150 points)

 Hello everyone,

so this is it, end of owac 2023. I got all mixed and thougt we still have one month left.

I finished the challenge without reaching my personal goal and i still have 15 miniatures to do (cavalry ...)

Anyway, i'm glad that i finished my fourth challenge. Thanks to Iannick for the organisation and thank you to all contenders for showing us some really cool armies and miniatures.

So this was my 2nd year of Albion and, as i said, i almost finished the army but 15 guys must not be so hard to do before the end of Summer.

Exhausted but glad ... you hear me ... glaaaad.

I took advantage to get my unit of pikemen done. I had to give them clothes and pikes before painting.

Here is the result:

King Knull and his retinue

King Knull is the sefl proclaimed king of the moors, big strong guy following by evildoers and thugs. This clan could easily be hired by chaotic armies in need of mercenaries.

In the lore, i imagined the King to have a pet hydra showed on the banner. The unit got thug heads and hoods or skulled helmets. After converting them, they made me think of the bad guys in Absolom 2022. King Knull got the face tatoos of one of the brutes.

King Knull inspiration for the tatoos

A real crew of bad guys

In order to close my post, here is the miniatures painted during the challenge:

A total of 1150 points (Dogs of war army list)

With my previous challenge, I reached a total of 2674 points and I should reach 3000 points with my last 15 miniatures.

I hope you enjoyed my vision of Albion's men and creatures. In my imagination, they're not stronger than regular men and I tried to chose an army list who could represent them well enough.
I was a bit disappointed of not getting any chariots but i'm really happy with the result.

Take care everyone and see you in our FB group.

Sybou's Albion Project - Leader month (315 points)

 Greetings to all Owacers,

thank you for joining me in the Albion's Project.

Once again the Owac Project allowed all of us to carry on with our respective projects and we just have one month left.

As i'm pretty late, i had to combine my leader and my wildcard in the same month.

My leader, a wise Druid with his grim but faithfull Kelpie. (110 pts)

For this Project, I really needed to get a kelpie, this seahorse is pretty typical of the northern Islands mythology. The hard part was to find one that I like.

I found the sculpt in a STL file made by Warploque Miniatures. My cousin had to print it 3 times in order to find the right size for me.

The Druid is from Conquest Miniature (again) ; i hesitated to cut him to place him on the horse but I feared of messing him up so i just put him in front of the beast.
It looks good enough like this.

Green and wet horsey!

Then for my wildcard, I didn't have much choice and I had to get ...

An other Giant!!! (205 pts)

More like a couple of giants on one body. I alway liked this guy and got it on the internet for not much. I kept him in a box after realising his size compared to my other giants, but I told myself that I really like him so I had to add him to the Army.

I took advantge of the fact that I had place on the base to add some rocks and stones. They look good, a bit like a wow ogre with their two heads. Really cool and simple miniatures.

With these guys i reached a total of 1060 points for the 2023 challenge.
Combined with my last challenge, it will be 2444 points.

For the month of June, it will be a big challenge as I have 35 miniatures to finish. 30 needed to be built and converted during May so it tooke me a bit of time.
I hope they will be worthy and the time spent on them.

Untill next time, take care everyone.

Month number 4 Ranks and troops - Albion's Regiment of Renown [395 points]

 Hello everyone,

just a couple of hours before the end of the months... I'm just in time to log my blog post before the deadline.

Now let's get back to the lore :

"It s said that KukulKan the giant blooded came through various feats and victories as he was growing ; but once full of pride he mocked the horned God to show the Island that he was beyond the reach of the Gods ... A beautiful lady offered him a golden necklace that was more beautiful than Kings' Crowns. It was his doom, a council of Druids came to him saying that he had to redeem himself in front of the horned God! Full of Wrath Kukulkan rushed them to destroy them but the necklace squeezed his neck !

He had to go through 12 laboors to be spared ..."

One of the laboor was to triumph of the Wights Isle's King! When he arrived in the Isle he saw the draugrs were already fighting some hybrids between wolfs and men ...

Beastmen from the book "Cranach of Morganloup"

So for these month I chose to paint the wolfmen aka the Faoladhs!

As the lore of Albion is a bit blurry i took a lot s of freedom in making my army. When I was a young lad, the bearmen of Urslo were one of my favorite DOW regiment. I was willing to get them again in my Albion's Army.

Here is the group with a Druidess

As I was building them, I remembered the beastman from this old french comic book "Cranach of Morganloup" here are a couple of pictures:

They really have a look of medieval Moreau's island monsters. So as I was listening to the Moreau's Island audio book, I was more than inspired to paint them, here there are:

I made them some shields a bit like the one of Urslo but with wolf paws.

The heads are from Maximini miniatures (normally for Wolfens curse company i guess)

I really like the whole aspect of them as a full unit. They're looking good. I kept a really simple paintscheme in order to give the regimental appearance.

Kukulkan and the command Group

I really didn't know what to use as the werebear and was willong to go with a wendigo like creature, like werewolf with skull head ... but I didn't find something i liked. Then in my bitbox, this old ogre was here for years and I was like he s just the right size and the story of Kukulkan came to my mind.

Anyway, how did he get the feoladhs to follow him? You're asking me.

"Kukulkan rushed in battle against the undead. After a quick triumph, the leader of the manbeast attacked him and a fierce battle ensued. Kukulkan destroyed his left eye and left him bleeding on the ground. The other beasts told him the Law!
You won, you must be the new leader! This is the law!
Kukulkan refused and didn t need to be followed by such creatures but as he looks through the land of the island, he was surely going to need some helps to defeats the undeads army so he accepted.
The whole crew answered as one "None escapes the Law!""

From this moment, the former leader is carrying the banner and Kukulkan and his retainers travel through Albion to complish all the Druids Laboors ..."

I also did a small wizard Druidess with a brownie familliar.
Pointwise for the month:
20 wolfmen of Kukulkan 335 points
1 Druid level 1                 60 points

A total of 395 points.
From the start of the challenge 350 + 395 = 745 points

Let's run away!!!!!

Sybou's month number 3 - Troopers month (210 points)

Hello everyone, here we are for the month of March.

It was a really hard month and once again i'm publishing my article at the last minute.

Anyway, I'm still lost in the myst of Albion and carry on my quest to finish once and for all a Warhammer Army.

For this month, 4 small giants:

"Albion is known for being the land of Giants ... Once they used to be a proud race ; legends said they were able to touche the sky, build wonderful cities and knew magic and secrets.
Now the giants of Albion are wild, slow minded and short tempered. Nobody really knows how it happened ... the collapsing of pillars holding back the winds of magic may have had some links with their condition but nothing is for sure.

Even now, giants are still fighting to defend Albion ; they're often not willing to join druids and clans and rather prefer to be left alone but will fiercely throw themselves against invaders in order to crush them"

4 count as ogres (140 points)

I really like the giants from "Conquest Games" they're perfect for my army. The 4th lad is a plastic D&D miniatures who really fits with them. I got him for years and it was nice to lay paints on him.

"Even if giants or druids notice the approach of ships on their coast most of the time, it is not unusual for clans of Albion to have patrols on their shores.

These horsemen are often used by Nobles and Kings for scouting or raiding actions. Every leaders know it s essential for their clans to have some of these skilled specialists in their army."

5 Albion raiders (70 points)

It was really hard to find some miniatures that i like for light cavalry. I found some german raiders from a line named SPQR and i bought some Perry plastic horses for them in order to have some consistency with the horsemen from my other armies.

Here the results, i gave them some spears from Frostgrave savages set, a couple of headswaps and here they are.

I have a other unit of these guys and will try to finish them in the following months.

That s a total of 210 points for these month and with January and February: 350 points

I hope you will appreciate my progress, take care and carry on with our challenge :)

Sybou's still in the myst of Albion - 60 points

 Greetings everyone,

let me welcome you once again in my humble post !

Again, we were back in the wet and foggy Albion with some clansmen.

It is known that sometimes some islanders are too wild and lack discipline to maintain a good formation.

These warriors act as skirmishers or raiders when it comes to battle against other clans or invaders.

These men and women know really well, the island and are often used by kings and nobles to protect the flanks of their spearmen or harass the back of an army.

More woads and kilts

For the month of February i chose to finish 10 skirmishers for 60 points. They are manly footsore pict soldiers. One of them is a firbolg from Alternative miniatures and the leader is a reaper miniature, barbarian princess like.

The month of february is as always pretty tricky but i succided in finishing it.

Like my first unit of the previous challenge, i gave them some goblins shields that suit them pretty well.

So for now, it 90 + 60 = 150 points of painted miniatures.

Regarding the number of miniatures, it's 20/ 87, so almost a quarter.

Next month, we will see, 4 small giants, 5 mounted raiders and 1 druid.

Thank you for reading and take care.

Untill next time.                                                                                                    Sybou

Sybou's army coming out of the myst (90 points)

 "Greetings travellers,

I am glad that you arrived safely to my shelter. It is true that warm welcomes are not really usual in our beautiful island but you can estimate yourself lucky.

I see that you're coming from the Old world and you want to know more about Albion and its denizens. You just found the right person to explain you everything because you see I'm kind of an oldworlder myself, I arrived here many moons ago and because of my cunning intellect and other means, i found a way to be accepted by the islanders."

Wild and strong are the men of Albion

"As i was telling you, it is not easy to be accepted by the islanders especially because for us, it s not easy to understand how they function as a society... You the Drunes are living near the swamp, the Lonemar clans are usually close to the coast and patrol on their horses to locate any invasions, the tribes of Danu are living more to the center of the island where they can worship their stones quietly ... but these groups are just a few of the different clans of Albion."

Crossbowmen of Albion

"Denizens of Albion are like other men, some are more progressive than others and more inclined to what comes from the outside. Some clans are especialized in raiding and scavenging invaders weapons, amongst these, the famous crossbows of Tilea. According to your look, i m thinking you must no be a stranger to this place, right? Anyway, mercenaries often come to Albion in order to conquer, raid and loot what they can but it is more often the last place they will ever see. The denizens of Albion that recover these weapons gather themselves in small group of shooters and hunters. They're not many of them but through years they acquire some skills in shooting and keeping their weapons in a good states"

"The men of Albion are as different as there are tribes, but most of them are wearing the colours of their clans and some woad skin paintings"

Here is my first month of January, it wasn't easy but I did it!
10 crossbowmen with a musician : 90 points

I'm going to try to do better next month!

"The night is coming really fast here on the island, most of the days are not that bright either but when Morslieb rises in the sky, this is the moment where evil lurkers dwell out of their place.

"It is sometimes hard to understand if you can trust an islander, they do not have the same beliefs as you and I, it is said that during fullmoon, some druids are making summoning in an endless pit using a dark cauldron... Here they're rising the deads in order to raid other clans or ennemies of their land. Unlike the undeads of the oldworld, it is said that they have green eyes."

As my overlord's offering, here is this beauty. Sacrificed by dark druids, these lady will now serve her new master. She has beautiful green eyes like creamy Jade.

Thank you for reading me. I can't wait to read your blogs, guys.
Take care and let's see us in a month!

Sybou´s in Albion for the second time

 Hello everyone,

After one year of break following the arrival of my sweet daughter, i m finally back in order to finish my Albion´s Army.

I'm, right now, not in my house and so i m going straight to the point.

Here is the army for 2023!

So basically, i have around 87 miniatures for the challenge:
1 druid lord on Kelpie
1 druid apprentice
5 light riders
5 light riders
10 heavy cavalry
20 pikemen
20 wolfmen (count as Urslo s bearmen)
10 crossbowmen
10 skirmishers
4 small giants (ogres)
1 giant

here are the heavy cavalry that will go with my horse lord from last challenge. Then we have a two headed giant.

The druid lord is from Conquest miniatures. I think really few people talk about this company and they re doing some really cool Albion s stuffs;
I m not sure if i m going to cut him and put him on the mount.
The mount is a kelpie from warploque miniatures, it s my first stl file and my cousin printed it.

Here we can see light cavalry, skirmishers and the pikemen. These guys are still really wip, i need to sculpt their kilts and add the pikes to all of them.

Then a champion with giant s blood tamed some wild beasts, the Faoladhs.
Rulewise, these are like the bearmen of Urslo:

Finally 4 small giants (3 from conquest games) and a plastic one from dnd miniatures.
They will bulk up the unit from the first challenge.

The last unit is a small squad of crossbowmen in order to have some shooting guys.

The miniatures for Iannick is a zombie but unfortunately, i dont have the picture with me.
I m right now in Perou with my wife s familly and have little access to my stuffs.

Thats it for my entry. Lots of minis but i can do it!!!

Cheers and take care!
Sybou/ Sylvain

Overlord note : Sylvain will show off hos offering in January. I'm really in a generous mood this year.

Sybou's month of June _ Leader and wildcard month - For Albion! (331 points)

 Hello everyone,

i'm kind of late for the challenge but here i am!

For the last month before the wrap up post i had to do my leader and the wildcard so without further waiting, here they are:

Our lord is a fierce horselord gathering clansmen and druids to defend the island from intruders. He's using a very big mace and celtic shield.

Mainly green colors, this guy is from Ral Partha and received an old Confrontation shield.

The guy costs 126 points.

My Wildcard is a second giant!!! This guy is an homage to the cloud giant from Ral Partha. I love it, it s so cool and he s as big as lots of warhammer giants. 205 pts of awesome.

I added to the base a small druid apprentice that tries to pronounce some magic spells to make him obey.

Klaatu verata nikto

Here we can see the two giants chilling and talking about stuffs ... I'll try to find more of them. I'd like to make a battle of 2000 pts only giants army against a regular 2000 pts army.
Just for fun.

In my 2000 pts army list, i still have 40 guys to paint such as light cavalry, skirmishers, crossbows and a heavy cavalry regiment for my lord. But they're not in the owac, i should try to finish them in an other journey. This is the rule of the lead mountain ...

So with the 331 pts, I reach a total of painting minis of 1444 pts! Not too shabby.

Here it is for me. Thank you Iannick for managing the challenge for an other year. See you soon for the wrap us post.

Cheers

Sybou
