Final post for OWAC VIII - the army shot

Apologies for the brief post but life is proving interesting at the moment, especially with medical issues, luckily not mine or my immediate family, but friends. Any way on with the show.

Month one Asgard goblins - the intention.

 First month - ten goblins.

Second month - more Asgard goblins

Third month - Leaders

Plus a little bonus - Citadel Wyvern

Month five - A change of plan, Citadel goblins

 Month six - more goblins

Final month -  even more goblins
Plus a chariot

And a few orcs just to be sure.

The army shot for OWAC VIII, showing most of what I painted over the course of the challenge.

A great experience.

Paul D's June contribution - More goblins and their hangers-on ( 518.5 points)

Well, June got off the a flying start, this time with some early slotta- types http://www.solegends.com/citcat1989/index.htm, including Marauder (Ally and Trish Morrison) and Iron Claw, (Bob Olley) subsiduaries of Citadel in the late 80's, early 90's, if, you what more information check out Stuff of Legends website http://www.solegends.com/marauder/index.htm & http://www.solegends.com/ironclaw/icgoblins.htm

By the 14th I'd daubed paint over this little lot.

This concludes the painting of most of my unpainted goblin collection from the time 3rd edition WFB came out and the pictures of the battle which is being recreated at BOYL this year.

I'm now off to the attic to see, if, I've anything else that I can splosh a touch of colour over, from the pictures shown. Apparently, chariots are also required, so here we have the Goblin Warlord's chariot, designed by Nick Lund for 66 points.

To draw this months efforts to a conclusion I also dabed a little bit of colour over a few orc arra boys for 97.5 points.

I know, I started this years challenge doing one thing which morphed into somthing else halfway through, but looking back I found the experience forfilling.

Paul D's May contribution - Goblins, lots of goblins to the tune of 400 points of troops.

Following my decision to assist a friend with his attempt to recreate the large battle shown in the 3rd Edition rule book at this years BOYL, I've gone full on, painting early Citadel goblins, to the point that in my rush I've not taken progress pictures, please forgive me.

First up, C series Archers, from the following ranges

First batch of goblin infantry, from way back when.

Second batch of infantry with first batch, what maybe of interest to some of you - I've added a few chaos goblins and a few early slotta  figures.

Next batch of  goblins

Last group with latter batches of infantry receive a coat of varnish.

All based up and another coat of vanish. A total of eighty figures at roughly five points each gives a healthy total of four hundred points.

Which should take me over the thousand point mark for the challenge.
Catalogue pictures from Stuff of Legends website.
Now off the paint something other than goblins!😂

CopperOracle II. 5. Leader - Hagar Sheol and King F'yar

King F'yar and Hagar Sheol

For the Leader month I planned for the Orc Chieftan of the Severed Hand Orcs, Hagar Sheol and the mastermind of all the orc forces, the mighty King F'yrr on War Wyvern

Despite only being the chief of the smallest of the three orc tribes, Hagar Sheol is featured on the stunning cover of the scenario book and is one of the two figures (the other being the dwarf leader Osrim Chardz) created especially for the set.

One of the rarest pieces for the collection, I have only ever seen him come up a couple of times for sale and one of those was when I grabbed him!

Completed Severed Hand Chieftain, Hagar Sheol

The Orc on War Wyvern was sculpted by Tony Ackland and released in 1984. This was the first of now a long line in Orc and War Wyvern sculpts and was originally just a general released before it was reused as a character in the scenario.

Base built up with bark and gravel

I decided on a larger base and stonework effect to add to its presence.
i have added some small pieces to the corner of its mouth which will be the bit for some reins in the future when I can settle on the right style (leather/rope or chains)

laying down initial base colours.
I have seen the Wyvern in a multitude of colours from deep red and purple to a red and green two tone similar to the later edition Wyverns but I settled on a more nature subdued scheme that would match the main armies

King F'yar dismounted.
The figure is  a compact sculpt and like many sculpts of the era, can initially look quite crude but the more i worked on it the more detail and character I found.

CopperOracle II. 4. Rank and File 4 - Orc Spearmen

The Severed Hands advanced, a shield-wall of garish yellow and black emblazoned with the Icon of a severed hand, smeared with the blood and desperate handprints of those that had fallen before them. Stepping over the bodies of the dead and eager to add to their number the leaders shouted back to the small shapes that trailed them. Lesser Goblins that were barely any use as fodder and arrow catchers scampered up and dived into the corpses with teeth and blade to start the tally, taking the hands for their larger cousins.

Amid the growing piles of hands a smaller mob moved, the smallest of the brave,  taking their own tally and waiting for a gap in the line to make their move and their own mark, raising the ragged standard of the 'Bloody Fingers!'

Picking up the Orcs I has abandoned in my Wildcard month they still seemed to have carried the uninspired air with them and I couldn't feel them so decided to do some extra's first to get myself back in the mood.

Eight Alternative Armies Goblins. Citadel Lesser Goblin (from Monster Starter set) Citadel lesser goblin Standard Bearer

I came across a set of goblins I had received free from Alternative Armies,  Nilbogs Backwood Goblin band, and after a test figure I got carried away and went through the whole unit and more!

Test Goblin

The figures would work as lesser Goblins which still existed in Second edition (before disappearing and becoming `Snotlings in later editions) and I managed to find two citadel lesser goblins I had picked up somehow in antiquity and started on a small horde, the Severed Hands are the smallest fo the three Orc Tribes in Bloodbath so they would no doubt be happy to bolster their ranks with some smaller disposables.

Nilbog himself does not have an identified figure so I settled on one and made him stand out by giving him some shieldbearers to stand on

'The Bloody Fingers'

Returning to the Orcs I had a week to go (bit of last minute pressure as extra fuel!) but was back in full swing.

As with the other ten, the figures are a mix of various Citadel era Orcs and Black Tree Designs

Converted one with Green stuff giving him some furs and Chainmail

Full unit test, bases trimmed and positions in bases varied to help them all fit

(Standard to be added next month)
