Quin’s Rainbow Vale - The Introduction

Nestled between the forests of the elves and the Pennan
Mountains rests a beautiful vale, where a luxurious
stream flows from the cliffside in majestic waterfalls and trails through miles of wooded thicket into the hidden cove, where the cold ice-melt meets the
sea.

Rainbow Vale - Kaja Foglio

During this year’s Old World Army Challenge, we will be examining the inhabitants of the Rainbow Vale. From the orcs in the forests to the giants in the hills there is little order in the small, peaceful valley. However, during times of war these creatures have been known to band together to protect what is theirs from the hands of the pointy-ears.

Army List-

Orcs - (881.5)

8 savage orcs w/ hand weapons & shields 6.5 points each (52)

Standard Bearer (12.5)

level 15 savage orc hero with hand weapon and shield (91)

15 savage orcs w/ hand weapons, shields & bows 7.5 points each (112.5)

Standard Bearer (14.5)

level 15 savage orc shaman with shield and hand weapon (166)

Level 5 savage orc hero with hand weapon, shield & bow (36)

Level 5 savage orc shaman (63)

4 savage orc boar boyz with double handed weapons & bows 25.5 points each (102)

Level 25 savage orc chieftain on boar with double handed weapon & bow (153)+(16)

Orc Manmangler (93)

Trolls - (1,510)

3 trolls with hand weapons (c20) 65 points each (195)

level 15 troll hero with double handed weapon (257)

level 5 troll shaman (145)

5 trolls, unarmed (trollsoup/C20) 65 points each (325)

4 trolls with hand weapons (trollsoup) 65 points each (260)

level 5 troll hero with hand weapon (115)

Troll Children (trollsoup)

Not sure of what to count these as for points, I could probably split the pack into two bases of “snotlings”

For now no points.

3 Troll Foresters w/ shield and hand weapon 71 each (213)

Giants - (3080)

Half Giants / Giant Children

Not sure how to value these models with points.. perhaps as Ogres? For now not accounted for in my estimated point totals.

Ral Partha Hill Giant Billidum (250)

Ral Partha Cloud Giant (250)

Heritage Giant (250)

Grenadier Storm Giant Level 5 Wizard (280)

Fiend Factory George the Giant (250)

Fergus the Psychotic Troll Giant (250)

Citadel C28 Giant (250) x4 (1000)

There is still one variant I would like for my collection... I hope to bump this up to 5 before the end of the challenge.

Imperial Dragon with Flight level 3 (550)

Total - (5471.5)

Throughout the challenge I will be using a continuous theme of music, such as last year’s inspiration from The Doors. This year I plan to be more broad in the nature of the music referenced and instead of focusing on a specific artist I will be drawing influence from some of my favorite punk bands from the era, such as GBH, The Exploited, Crass, Slaughter & the Dogs; etc. This will come through in the likes of banners, the folklore told within the next few months of my blog, and perhaps if I’m feeling brave enough; tattooed upon the skins of the savage orcs.

I’m planning to begin my first month by painting one of the units of savage orcs, and perhaps starting a unit of trolls or giants if time permits. Since the last challenge, my work has become more demanding and I’m finding less and less time for the hobby but the project must move on! However I am further behind at the time of writing than I should be, as I still haven’t gotten any models prepped whatsoever, so I may not reach all of the goals I have set for myself but nevertheless I intend to finish this years OWAC!

Without further ado, here is my painted gift to Iannick, a blue-skinned savage orc with pink accessories. I haven’t had a chance to do sealing coats on the model yet, so before it’s sent off I will be adding some flocking & static grass to his base.

See you all next month in the trenches,

PaulD's final presentation of what I daubed paint over this Spring for the Old World army Challenge

Here's a few pictures of my meager efforts of applying paint to a few miniatures as part of the Old World Army Challenge to provide me with additions to my amazonian army, which didn't get off to particularly good start, as I was originally painting lizardmen!

Check out the early posts for details of how I got here.  I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did?

Paul / Golgfag1

PS. Thanks to all the others who took part, seeing your efforts, encourged me to do more than I intended, especially to Mr Iannick for all the boring admin stuff.
