The siege has ended - Filippo's wrap up post

"On 414.830.M41, the Siege of Vraks was officially declared at an end. The Administratum scribes that had recorded the first shells fired now completed their report, closed the thick tome into which they had scribbled every detail of the war and sealed it with their stamps, not to be re-opened before it reached the headquarters of the Lord Militant Obscurus. He in turn would see copies made for his own archives and then forward the Liber Vraks Obsidius to the great central Administratum archives on Terra for final processing.

The projected twelve standard year campaign had lasted almost eighteen Terran years. It had seen the deployment of 34 Krieg regiments, and the loss of an estimated fourteen million Guardsmen of Krieg. The enemy losses were likewise massive. Eight million souls on Vraks bad been caught up in Apostate Cardinal Xaphan's misplaced ambitions, and now almost all had been purged from the galaxy. Exact numbers of enemy losses could never be known but the vast majority now lay in the charnel pits and mass graves of the Van Meersland Wastes. There were also tens of thousands of prisoners. All were now to be vetted by the Ordo Malleus interrogators. Those found to be beyond redemption would face execution for their crimes. Others would find themselves shipped to far-flung penal colonies and work camps, there to aid the Emperor's realm with their hard labour.

Vraks itself had been ruined by the war. Nothing of value had survived the siege. The planet's infrastructure had been destroyed in the endless artillery duel. The Citadel itself was gone. Later, the Krieg Engineers saw to it that anything that had somehow survived the battle was leveled.

The surrounding landscape was a nightmarish vision of total war, littered with the detritus of many past battles. The tank hulks would gradually turn to rust and slowly moulder into the ground, as would thousands of kilometers of razorwire. The trenches retained their dug-outs and bunkers. Below ground, the labyrinth of tunnels hacked out by the engineers would also remain abandoned, deserted and silent.

Crossing the Van Meersland Wastes remained dangerous long after the armies had gone. There was still many hidden minefields and unexploded shells buried in the mud. Worse were the chemical weapons still liyng unexploded, or a sudden storm might reenergise ground soaked in poisonous chemicals that would billow up to form new deadly fogs of greenish gas, drenched in acid that could strip flesh from bone. The shattered remains of the three outer defence lines also remained -- smashed bunkers and pillboxes testament to the ferocity of the fighting that had destroyed them. Vraks was now a world beyond reclamation. If the Departmento Munitorum ever hoped to rescue the planet as an Armoury World it was to be disappointed in that ambition. The original armouries were all gone, destroyed in the fighting. The supplies were also gone, used up by the war. Little of anything remained to be reclaimed.

In the years to come the Ordo Malleus would conduct a long review of what had happened on Vraks, and it was Inquisitor Lord Hector Rex's conclusion that the Vraks System should be interdicted. Automated sentry warnings were to be positioned to warn starships away, and periodically Imperial Navy patrols would sweep through, making sure the system did not become a haven for pirates and aliens. But the planet and its star system were no longer of any value to the Emperor, save as a memorial to the valour of those who had fought and died there for the sake of Mankind."

Third OWAC completed with three Epic armies done, 903 infantry (or cavalry) models, 76 vehicles or artillery and one small gaming table for a total of 8000+ points in less than 6 month.

Krieg's Army

Khorne and Renegades

Yeah, I will brag about this at my club for a couple of years, at least.

This project was a dream that I kept postponing for quite times, and was almost on the verge of selling all the stuff, but thanks to this competion, each year I find the strenght to complete something from my ever growing pile of shame.

Thanks OWAC, you and our Mighty Overlord truly are a secret government project for sleep deprivation  a source of motivation!

There are still many other Epic models in the pile of shame, but I doubt I'll paint other small scale models in the next month.

..Legionis Imperialis? What's that.. OH SHI..

See you in 2024, bones are rattling, Warp engines are flaring and armies are moving, let's see which will win

ZeroTwentythree's Post-OWAC6 Skaven Wrap-up Post (1,406 pts)

Post-Challenge Wrap Up
The Great Horned Rat Race

Sorry, that was about the best I could do for me and an army photo this time around. I tried taking some zoomed-in shots, but I don't have my photo set up right now. So you'll have to look through the monthly challenge entries if you want to see any up close.

The Plan

From my Introduction post, I had planned on painting the following.
  • 30ish Clanrats with spears (30)
  • 20ish Stormvermin with two handed weapons (0)
  • 25ish Skavenslaves (13)
  • 4 beastmasters (4)
  • 1 Rat Ogre (I already have another one painted) (1)
  • 15 Giant Rats (10)
  • 1 Plague Censor (1)
  • 5 Globadiers (2)
  • 2 Jezzail teams (1)
  • 1 Warpfire-thrower team (1)
  • Some characters (2)
  • Completely unplanned stuff that I probably haven't even thought of yet. (1 jabberwock, 1 terrain)
After each item above, I've indicated how many I actually painted and color coded the successes and failures. I had intended to paint more characters in my Leader month, but since I met the terms of my vague initial goal, I'll call it a success.

Although I finished the challenge, I am a bit disappointed I didn't meet my goals. But there was a lot of unexpected non-painting stuff going on in the background that made it difficult. Not just difficult to find time, but also difficult to get in the mood. In spite of the Skaven being my first Warhammer love, I just didn't have the enthusiasm of past Challenges.

Army Totals

30 Clanrats with Spears.................... 206 points
4 Packmaster w/lt. armor ................ 42 points

1 Warpfire-Thrower Team .............. 81 points
1 Jezzail Team ................................ 39 points
1 Rat Swarm ................................... 250 points

13 Skavenslaves ............................. 35 points
1 Grey Seet .................................... 327 points

OWAC6 Total .................................1,406 points

(74 figures) (110ish planned)

Looking Ahead

I'm going to take it easy for a while, no pressure painting. Or not painting. And I'm going to give some thought on whether or not I will join the assumed OWAC7. If I do, I think I've got two contenders.

Chaos. Chaotic chaos. A small core of warriors and then a bunch of mismatched beasts and allies. In fact, I would paint up some of the remaining Skaven the got left our of OWAC6 as part of this project!

Dogs of War. I have some pikemen, some birdmen, some cavalry, and a few other odds & ends to use for this project.

There are a couple of other "long shot" projects in the back of my head as well. One of them I have no figures for, so that is probably out. The other, well, I only have one figure for, but the rest I would sculpt as part of the challenge. Not completely out, but still not as likely as the two above.

Tom's Sisters of Battle - Wrap Up

And the unedited pic, for extra pics 👇

The Sisters of Battle

I have very much enjoyed painting these new Drew Day Williams/Satyr Studio sculps alongside the official GW ones, although in the end, they didn't really turn out all that grimdark...
Some highs include the two original Female Warriors: Jayne and Gabbs, and painting those two bikers - I'm really pleased with both of them.
Some lows include the varnish frosting on Sister Veridyan, which you could probably pick out in the pictures below.
I'm also a little sad that I didn't get the Exorcist painted, but aaanyhow....crashing on!

A pic of me with the Sisters👇

Not much remains excepting a very massive Thanks and All Praise (again!) to the ever Looming Overload Iannick, and his henchman: the Powerful Moderator Byron.

All the other Challengers have been hugely inspirational and motivational in equal measures - it's so hard to pick a favourite, but of course there's no need to. Just a quick bask in the glorious Oldhammerness of it all - the sheer love and effort that people make over their armies, and I come back fully motivated and stronger to the paint table!

Congratulations everyone, hopefully see you all next year!!!

Sam' All Star Blood Bowl League - Reikland Reavers/Marauders

This month I had the most brutal schedule I’ve had in some time with work, so it really was a struggle bus of epic proportions. Fortunately though, this is my favourite team and I adore the sculpts.

This metal team is one of a couple of exclusives to the re-release of 3rd Ed. BloodBowl in 97/98. Also on the rarer side due to the game being packaged with a plastic human team and humans being on the average side in power lvl. So I was pretty chuffed to get a complete set for a reasonable price last year.

Lore-wise I’ve always preferred the Marauders to the Reikland Reavers. However, I’ve never liked the earlier version colours scheme of red and white, and being a man who likes to paint his miniatures to the “sunglasses advised” level of vibrancy the later Marauders scheme of dark navy and yellow is a bit too drab for my tastes as things were starting to edge towards the grimdark at GW. So to that end I decided to blur the lines and make a scheme that is a halfway house between the two. That way I can call them either one from one day to the next, perhaps an away kit of sorts for either.

Overall, I’m very happy with how they came out. And looking forwards to squeezing in a few games with them, hopefully in the near future.

So that’s it for another year. Time to get them all out for a spicy pose and wrap it all up.

Peace out

Samuel

Filippo's Krieg and Renegades Army - Rank and File IV

The light at the end of the tunnel.

An easier month compared to waht I did so far, with a couple of changes on the last minutes.

The first units done were the rest of an renegade infantry platoon, six bases plus the command squad

Then it was time for the motorized company.  Eight bases of infantry( the Chimeras and the Salamander were already painted)

Then it was time for another Hydra. Now I can field an unit of three or three upgrades for the other units

From the original plans, there were missing only 8 bases of Fire Support Squad and three Valdor Tank Hunters

The Valdor were already skipped cause I do not have the model, that means..

That means..

MORE INFANTRY!

I couldn't do it..

There were luckily many other units that could be added.

First a company of Leman Russes for Krieg, six Demolishers

A Deathstrike silos, also for Krieg

Last, two units of really old Khorne Demon Engines, these are really old school <3

See you next month for the last post of the year!

Sam's All Star Blood Bowl League - Champions of Death

This month is the first one where I had a bit of a procrastinate due to the models. Basically the original scheme for the Champions of Death just wasn’t to my liking. the colours are okay, but there just isnt enough of them and the parts feel forced. So I really felt it just doesn’t fit the models quite right, it’s a little bit too one dimensional. So that delayed me a bit and required a bit of trial and error before I was happy. In the end it was just a matter of adding another spot colour and accentuating certain features that were overlooked in the originals paintjob in favour of simplicity.

Anyhow, in the end I think they turned out pretty bangin’ so I’m happy with them.

I saved my fave team for last as a final stretch motivational booster. So on to the humans (yes I’m a basic bitch). The promised land is in sight! Let’s do this!

Peace out

Samuel

Adrian's May Wild Card Month - the attack of the killer tomatoes (973 points)

Wild Card Month

T+038: The Blood Omen surface auspex start following the column and scouting the road ahead.

-Blood Omen to Strike Force Alpha, we have spotted your markings. You're about to reach a detour.
We... we're detecting changes in the vegetation. The endless cornfields seems to end after all. Also there are Legiones Astartes comm signals. Not able to decipher them for now.

T+039: the detour ends abruptly in a compound. Finally the traitor base is spotted.

-Blood Spear here, sir. I am no farming expertise, but ferrocrete fortifications may seem a bit off in a farm. [Gun sounds]
Incoming fire!

-Lt. Commander Lazarus: Strike Force Alpha, ready for the assault in designated sector B1. Blood Spear, you have permission to return fire!

T+040: The tactical squads finally opens the line at sector B1 with the aid of additional rhino transports. The armoured column is capable of trespassing the killing fields.

T+040: However, something strange start to occur at sectors B1 to B3 of the outer defences of the compound.

-Lt. Bahamut: We're in. Something is moving from the fields. Imperial space marines to me! Expect an ambush from the first defence line!
-Sgt. Piero: Sir, they're not Astartes according to the auspex.
-Pvt. Morris: Tomatoes! Emperor praise, effing tomatoes!

-Lt. Comm. Bahamut: Sending reinforcements, resist in the breach.

T+041: The assault squads support the spearhead breaching in sectors B1-B2.

-Lexicanun Trent: These damn creations must be the last variant. They were just dormant. Someone must be awakening them!

-Chaplain Giteau: We're breaching the inner line at sector A! Need support right now.

KLAATU. BARADA. NIKTO!
HAHAHA You have no power here now! I've corrupted the Dark Cross of Berziers! I command the legions of chaos!

-Chaplaik Giteau: WHO THE HECK ARE YOU!? Did I even know you?! What are you talking about? I BET THAT NAME WASN'T EVEN MENTIONED IN THE STORY SO FAR! You made up that nonsense, it sound like the bullshit that brother Trent watch!
-Pvt. Morris: Padre! We cannot hold the breach! We should return to the outer line!

May already done and I'm happy with the armoured company so far. I mixed a bit of RT and 2nd edition colours and details with the original Space Marine markings.

I am very proud of the small texts because I made them in the first try and superfast. No more discovering that the phrase is deviated and needs to be repainted.

Yep, I was listening to Judas Priest while painting.

The classic bunkers and trenches were also fun to paint but I may add little change after the OWAC.
I had no time to experiment with weathering and markings in the fortifications and I will probably add a little bit later.

Finally, the extras!

Oh boy, the RT and stargrave encounters will be a little bit weird with the khorne sheeps and now the killer tomatoes.

Classic squigs as the sauce of this update.

The demons of chaos, love the old plague bearers. May increase the unit in the future for a chaos warband? Who knows.

And the space marines finally confronted the traitor marines.

Sadly, I am completely sure that not gonna collect the RT traitors because they're off my possibilities. But wanted to paint a kill team and my other (modern) HH force using bits of the oldhammer schemes. Specially with the decadent Emperor Children.

The Word Bearer sorceror/librarian is completely converted except the backpack. Because I lost it. Rest with some of my Harboth's half painted shields.

I may have not said anything and pass it like the unfinished backpacks of McVey's 2nd ed. marines.

Last month incoming. The two demi squads of heavy firepower contribute to the final assault on the compound.

Meanwhile,

Adrián’s out.
