Renegades of Funk (Skåls Rank and File month 3)

INCOMING!!!!!

Emerging from the warp's swirling maelstrom, Chaos Renegade Marines materialized on the planet's surface, their twisted armor adorned with blasphemous symbols. With ruthless efficiency, they descended upon the Imperial stronghold, their weapons singing the discordant hymns of Chaos. Blood-soaked battle cries echoed as they stormed through defenses, leaving only carnage in their wake. The air crackled with dark energy as they unleashed unholy fury upon their foes, driven by a malevolent thirst for destruction. Amidst the chaos, the Renegades sought to sow fear and despair, a grim reminder of the ever-looming threat of the warp's malefic influence.

Month three is here and then it's gone in the blink of an eye. But what a glorious month it was. This month was a tribute to my gaming buddies from Maryland who got me back into playing Rogue Trader. Because of the grumpy gamers I have painted up several forces to use in the chaotic scenarios that the master of chaos himself dreams up. Yes, Brian, I am talking about you.

Above is the crew in all of their chaotic glory. From left to right, first, we have Brian the tentacle flamethrower, next to him is Four-Armed Will the Conquer, in the middle is Titillating Psychedelic, Cool Jeff, followed by the Killer of Hopes and Dreams of Others, Andrew, and finally the Misfit of the crew Tom the Legend himself.

As if the five above was not enough, I painted another five Renegades to make sure I could field a squad of 10 or two squads of five. In this group, second to the left, we have Ben the Never-Present brother of Tom. Finally in the middle is me Skål the Ever Angry always ready to paint new $hit.

I wanted to make sure to call out the Misfits logo on Tom the Legends backpack. Tom is a good buddy of mine and I wanted to make sure to include the Misfits somehow into his Renegade.

Till next month.

"Here's to us,

And those like us.

Damn few and they're probably dead.

Cheers!"

JamesP Chaos Renegades of Khorne - Month 1

 PAINT FOR THE PAINT GOD!!!

So…First month done!

My plan with this project is to try new techniques. I started using an airbrush to prime my models instead of rattle cans. This allows me to prime and/or base coat in my office inside a portable spray booth. I’m also using the Army Painter Speedpaints to increase my productivity. This decision came after much thought about using what little free time I have in the best way possible. As I work full time and run my 3d printing company, I have very little time to paint. I want to get as much done with the time I have so here we are. I’m very happy with the results and I think the speedpaints will be a valuable addition to my hobby tool box. I like the vibrant colours, ease of application and despite the learning curve, I do save a lot of valuable time.

This portion of the army is as follows:

Tactical Squad – 250 points

1 Assault Marine on Jet-bike – 47.5 points

Total – 297.5 points

Here is the family photo so far

The jet bike will be added to a full 8-man unit which will be a thing of beauty on the table top. I like the idea of a mounted assault squad but wasn’t too keen on the horses as I don’t feel they properly represent the 40K genre. I think the jet bike captures the chaos feel quite well.

Chris Pridmore’s Rank and File Month 1

10 Chaos Space Marines – 255 points

Very happy with how these guys turned out, especially the Champion and the ancient Traitor Marine. The squad was also a great chance to try out the scheme that I'll be using for much of the rest of the army.

Also had time to paint a little something extra…

Great Unclean One - 275 points

Before I painted him, I rolled a few times on the Realms of Chaos name generator see what he’d be called. I rolled Doom + Ash (OK, but more of a title than a name I think), Blister + Spike (good solid daemon names) and finally Toad + Buttock (Hells yes!). Mashing them together as the book suggested, I’m proud to call this fella Blisterspike Toadbutt, the Ashen Doom. This gave me several ideas for the paintjob, and inspired a little story as well:

"Following recent calamities, I have set my mind to a full study of the foul creature known as Blisterspike Toadbutt, so that loyal servants of the Throne may find a way to purge the Emperor's galaxy of this most blasphemous emanation. I have collected eye-witness testimonies from those fortunate enough to survive an encounter with the beast, and compiled these along with material drawn from my Ordo-sanctified collection of scry-glasses, wyrd-viewers, and sundry other instruments. May the Emperor’s Light guide me as I undertake this perilous research.

Witnesses describe an aura of decay so intense that the very ground on which the creature walks is reduced to lifeless ash. From this phenomenon the daemon has gained its title, The Ashen Doom. My scrying has shown me the grumbling work-gangs of the lesser Plaguebearer strain which follow in their master’s wake, ploughing the corrupted ash into the soil to provide a rich loam for the Grandfather’s Garden. And oh, how green that garden grows! Oh my, how leafy, how verdant, how... [passage obscured by filth unknown]

Returning to the witness testimony, those who were able to see the back of the beast (much to their obvious relief) reported a curious patterning on the creature’s posterior. They describe its backside taking on a vibrant hue, akin to certain venomous amphibians. Isn’t that fun! I think it’s fun. Ha ha! But my apparatus has shown me far, far more than this colourful detail.

I see a great throne, deep within the fecund garden. That can’t be right, can it? There is only one great Throne, on Holy Terra, and no such filth could ever sully it. But yet, I have seen it! On this mighty seat reclines a being far greater than Blisterspike, alike in form but incomparable in size and sheer pestilent majesty, and Blisterspike is merely a servant before it. And here, oh here, I see the meaning behind the creature’s name, and also the source of the revolting effluvium on its horned crest. It is clear, indisputably, that the service which Blisterspike provides to his liege-lord is a very simple one. Cradled gently in the hand of the Lord of All Plagues, Blisterspike’s horns are used to scratch the boils upon his master’s..."

JamesP RT Khorne Army

Hello again!

I am returning to the OWAC after a year hiatus. I have taken part in 2 other OWAC (III & IV), each year painting half of my dream Empire army. It was quite an undertaking but so worth it and I’m happy to say they have seen a fair bit of table time. I am not happy to say that 2022 was a rough year with only a dozen or so minis painted. The OWAC is the best way I found to paint a force. What can I say? Without our benevolent overlord’s rants of “HAVE YOU SUBMITTED YOUR ENTRY YET?!” along with my fellow competitor’s encouragement and seeing all the progress of beautifully painted armies I just can’t get motivated.

I want to ease back into the challenge after my break, so I’m doing a small project that has taken me years to collect. I’ll be painting a Rogue Trader Khorne army.

This force will consist of:

·        Month 1 – 8 tactical marines and 1 marine on jet bike (a cheeky 10 model minimum)

·        Month 2 - 8 tactical marines and 1 marine on jet bike (another cheeky 10 model minimum)

·        Month 3 - 8 devastator marines and 1 marine on jet bike (more cheekiness)

·        Month 4 – 5 marines on jet bike (will the cheekiness never end?)

·        Month 5 – A land Raider and a Predator (Lovingly restored to their former glory)

·        Month 6 – Command consisting of 1 terminator general, his lieutenant, a tech marine (who is currently navigating the warp i.e. The Royal Mail) and a dreadnought.

Points will be listed every month along with unit descriptions. I am doing the bare minimum for most months as I have to travel a few times in the beginning of the year. Hopefully this will not hinder my efforts.

For our master of ceremonies: The celebrant of the macabre, My personal Freddy Krueger who haunts my dreams not with fingers ending with blades but with tiny paint brushes for digits I humbly submit a Citadel Fiend Factory (FF58) Vampire to keep the FF1 Fiend company.

I look forward to watching the armies grow!

Good luck!!
