Audi R8 Big Game Commercial – Commander (2016)

Surrounded by memories of the Space Age’s golden years, a retired astronaut has lost his zeal for life. But when his son shows up and hands over the keys to the new 205-mph Audi R8 V10 plus, a rocket ride under the stars stirs new found life within the Commander

This is quite an emotional advert to watch and even more so because it uses Bowie's Star Man as the music and I'm still not over his transcendence yet.

You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB8tgVqmKzw

Enjoy

The Quatermass Xperiment (1955)

The Hammer Film version of the BBC TV series which is also known as The Creeping Unknown in the USA.

The plot is thus...

Three astronauts are launched into space aboard a rocket designed by Professor Quatermass, but the spacecraft returns to Earth with only one occupant, Victor Carroon (Richard Wordsworth). Something has infected him during the spaceflight, and he begins mutating into an alien organism which, if it spores, will engulf and destroy humanity. When the Carroon-creature escapes from custody, Quatermass and Scotland Yard's Inspector Lomax (Jack Warner), have just hours to track it down and prevent a catastrophe

But you probably knew all of that already

Quatermass II (1955)

The first of the TV sequels which was also remade as a movie by Hammer Films.  When they did that they didn't include this particular scene, preferring instead to keep Bernard Quatermass earthbound.

Something for the Weekend 8

It's been a while but it's time for a little Something for the Weekend.

This is Joan Shawlee's publicity/glamour shot for Conquest of Space from 1955 but amusingly it just reminds me of this scene from Alien....
And now I'm imagining Conquest is a much better film than I know it to be.

Conquest of Space (1955)

The 1955 film Conquest of Space was based on a non-fiction book illustrated by Chesley Bonestell and written by Willy Ley.  The Conquest of Space was published in 1949 and presented a collection of photo-realistic paintings which dared to speculate on the wonders that awaited the winners of the space race.

Rather than make a pseudo-documentary of the source material, which might have made it more interesting, they found a bit of a plot and hung the visuals on the back of that.  It's of its time of course which make some aspects of the story a little clunky and dull but more unfortunately it lacks anything like the charm of other 50's sci-fi films which means it's failings tend not to be forgiven.  Though not loved it remains visually interesting so that you can still enjoy this gallery of fine looking space suits
