Stargate SG1 - Season 5, Episode 17: Failsafe (2001)

A large asteroid is discovered on a heading straight towards Earth.....
better call in the spacesuits from Deep Impact, they've had experience of this kind of thing!

Seven Days - Crystal Blue Persuasion (2001)

NASA astronaut Commander William Streck is investigating an alien craft above Earth when something erupts, killing two of his crewmates....
These images are from Series 3 episode 15 of the TV show which ran for three seasons in total and produced 66 episodes around the concept of employing time travel to correct events and avoid national emergencies and disasters.
Don't recall this at all although I've read it played this side of the Atlantic as well.  Episode list suggests there  are other stories featuring spacesuits so we may well be back here again.

Thanks Tim

IBM Codernaut Advertising Campaign (2001)

This ones been in the files for a long time, almost from the very beginning of this blog but for whatever reason its taken several years to generate its own post. Well here it is at last; the king of 2001: A Space Odyssey-looky-likey suits, as featured in TV and general press adverts as well as appearances at trade shows.  Unlikely-ladies and gentlemen may I present to you; the IBM Codernaut spacesuits...

It's been suggested that there were 6 of these suits made; two for the adverts, as above, and a further two pair for the trade show appearances with the latter being somewhat lighter and more suited for a longer wear time.  The backpack is also larger and more like the original film props
Of course there is a similar light blue suit seen in the original film although the IBM one is a closer match to the silver moon suits....
...than the one seen hanging up in the pod bay of the Discovery.
The suits were made by Global Effects Inc, who have made a great number of other spacesuits over the years and have a rather nice web site found here...

That's it, so, enjoy the rest of the gallery.

Stranded (2001)

Stranded is a 2001 film about the first manned mission to Mars. It stars Vincent Gallo and Maria de Medeiros, and was directed by Spanish filmmaker and actress María Lidón, with screenplay by Spanish science fiction author Juan Miguel Aguilera. Lidón won the "Grand Prize of European Fantasy Film in Silver", and Gallo and de Medeiros were named best actors at the 2002 Fantafestival in Rome.  Which all sounds rather interesting.  I'd quite like to see this one.

CQ (2001)

CQ is a 2001 film written and directed by Roman Coppola. It's a homage to 1960s European spy/sci-fi spoofs like Barbarella and Danger: Diabolik.  Which is good enough for me and puts it very high on my to watch list.
And yes that's a space suit.  Don't let the lack of science hold you back.

Jason X (2001)

I quite like a bit of Friday the 13th. They are what they are.
I quite like the mad idea of setting the tenth one of the series in space, in the future.
That said, Jason X, is a load of old tummy rot and probably best avoided.

Planet of the Apes (2001)

Lets cover a couple of films I'm not too keen on just so that we can get them out the way with.  And when I say not too keen on what I actually mean, at least with the first of these two blogs, is a film I really hate.
Tim Burton's 2001 remake of  Planet of the Apes offends me on just about every level.  Its a terrible, stupid film that has only three redeeming facets; which are the talents of Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter and a chimpanzee in a space suit called Pericles.

Here are a couple of pictures of our simian astronaut for your visual pleasure

...and for the joys of our two talented English thesps may I suggest renting just about anything they have ever done with the obvious exception of the the above mentioned film.

Even thinking about this film makes me cross!
