Man on the Moon - A Daily Mail Special (1969)

Took myself on a little day trip to London today and stumbled across this down Brick Lane for a bargain £5.  And, given that we are very nearly the same age as each other, its actually in amazing condition!

This is a souvenirs magazine to celebrate the, as was then, impending moon landing.  I've only read a fraction of it so far but its fascinating to read about it before it had actually happened and also of note is the fact that it very nearly all paintings and drawing inside because obviously at this point there were no  photographs of the event.

Its also a bit of a double win for me because I'm a big fan of Neil Ardley from his children's futurology book series, World of Tomorrow.  If I haven't yet blogged the Out into Space edition  then I'll correct that as soon as is possible because that also has some very nice art inside

TV-Times Spetember 21 - 27 (1968)

I stumbled over this image a couple of days ago of the TV listing magazine  TV-Times from September 1968.  From what I can gather the cover is not a specific image from a TV show but it caught my eye because to me that looks like one of the Windak suits, which featured in a variety of places through out the 60s and 70s.  Ill update the post with more details should I discover them.

Man on the Moon - Daily Mirror special suppliment (1969)

Stumbled across this by default of researching one of its authors.  I don't have a specific named artist for the cover but Graphics and Design are attributed to John C Smith.  That's quite a nice wrap around cover

Advertising Space - Gallery 1

Do you see what I did there?

OK, time to clear the files a bit.  I've been holding onto these images for years waiting to date them but lets throw it out to you people out there.  If you know, or know how I can find out what year these images are from then feel free to pop a comment in below and I'll update accordingly.

 (1965)

 (1970)

 Smirnoff  Vodka (1967)
Its been suggested that this is the same space helmet as one featured in You Only Live Twice and on study I would have to agree.  Its also the same year as that James Bond film and given the smart dressed chap and the girl I'm now wonder if this whole advert is trying to capture the Bond thing, officially or not.  Thanks "Unknown" for spotting that

Galaxy Magazine, March Vol. 38, No. 1 (1977)

Galaxy Magazine, March 1977 (Vol. 38, No. 1)  Cover art by Stephen Fabian, illustrating part 3 of Gateway by Frederik Pohl.

And here it is in close up and rotated

Look Familiar?
Yes and so it should.  "Cheeky" Stephan didn't bank on the future development of the internet and the fact that people like us post images like that.  Still those spacewomen are very attractive and every artist deserves his muse.

Thanks for the keen-eyed find, Michel Van.

Penthouse - October 1978 - Lust in Space (1978)

So....
We're looking at a Penthouse photo shoot from 1978, when everyone was jumping on the sci-fi/Star Wars bandwagon.  The name of the feature is Lust in Space.  The photo are by Earl Miller and they happen to feature the  Men into Space helmet.
This gentleman below appears to be adrift when...
...he stumbles over this very attractive alien lady and her twin.  And then stuff happens!
...which I'm not going to talk about here.
....or show you either.

All of theses images and many more are from the Blog; The Seduction of Venus, which is definitely for grown ups only and is very good if you like that sort of thing*

Anyway to see more, so much more, go to:

Look-In #41 (1981)

Long running British comic / magazine + Much loved English band: Madness =  the above cover image!

Beyond that I can't explain why the band members are in space suits or what the logic or reasoning was behind this 1981 cover. But its a nice and odd image to start November off with.  Be back with more soon.

3001 - A Ford Transit Van (1979)

6 wheeled, gull-wing doored Ford Transit van of the future from somewhere around about 1979. The star of this picture is undoubtedly the van and not the driver of the Stardust Rover although his presence justifies the coverage in this blog.

The van was commissioned by the Ford Motor Company for use at shows and the images were used in various magazines of the day and of the type which might excite van and custom car enthusiast.
Time has not been kind to the van and its story can be viewed over at the Rods 'n' Sods forum

along with a lot more images and information.

Life Magazine (1961)

When we looked at The Road to Hong Kong (1962) not too many posts back, blog follower; beamjockey, made comment about the story and images published in the 10th of November 1961 issues of Life magazine.  Being a good sort, he emailed me a scan of the page 46 and here it is including some close ups.  Its a great little story and adds hugely to the original post.  Thanks again, sir.

Brilliant stuff.
