Zack Box 31 - Space 1999 comic (1977)

An image from the Blog Space 1970 for the German Space 1999 comic.  Its wonderful isn't it and there are a couple more images to be found here:

Its a great place to look around so get yourself over there and delight in the very best of sci-fi from one of the finest decades I've ever had the pleasure of playing in.

NY Comic Art Convention Advert - Jack Kirby (1976)

Art from Marvel's 2001 A Space Odyssey comic adaption which has been appropriated for a New York Comic Con advert but I'm not sure of the year  I've seen it dated as 1971 which is rubbish because we didn't know about Star Wars back then.  Logic says 1977.  Does any one know better?

based on info in the comments' section then I'll edit to 1976. Thank you

Captain Condor (1952)

Captain Condor was a strip created by Frank Pepper and Ronald Forbes about a valiant spaceship pilot in the year 3000 AD which appeared in the pages of IPC's Lion comic from 1952 onwards.  Lion was designed to compete with Eagle and Condor was basically the comic's answer to Dan Dare.

Ranger Comic (1965)

Ranger was an attempt in 1965 to return to the 1950s heyday of the Eagle with comic strips and factual information in a highly illustrated and well produced format. The comic ran for 40 issues from September 1965 to June 1966 (plus 2 annuals) but failed to gain enough of an audience and so was amalgamated into Look and Learn.

That's Image Comics if you wanted to know more.  I've only read the first couple of issues so far, got some catching up to do, but I liked what I've seen.

Astronauts in Trouble (2015)

Larry Young's early 2000s series Astronauts In Trouble is being reprinted at Image, re-serialized as a monthly comic book .  These are a couple of the new covers by Charlie Adlard, of whom I'm something of  a fan, having enjoyed his early work on the X-Files comic and his present work on The Walking Dead.  Must confess I've yet to pick this up although its riding high on my get round to very soon list.

If you've read some and you want to share your thoughts then post in the comments below.

Space: Punisher (2012)

Art by Mark Texeire

Never read this as it came out well past the time my interest in The Punisher had waned.  I was a big Texeira fan though, back from his Ghost Rider days, so its nice to see his art again.

Punisher G-Force (1992)

Cover Art by Mark Nelson

I know I read this when it came out and even have a very vivid memory of when and where I bought it from.  Can't remember the story though or where my copy went to.  I think I liked it but I read a lot of Punisher comics back then so it might just have been where my head was at, at the time.

Brian Lewis - A Gallery

I blogged some of Brian Lewis' work back in December 2010 without even realising it.
This cover illustration was from 1976 and was artist unknown by me until this weekend when I stumbled across another piece of Brian Lewis' work; Googled the man and realised his talents had haunted my childhood with out my being aware.
This image is from deep within the pages of the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (Octopus Books 1978) a Christmas present from back then that I still treasure and look at to this day.

And then there's this little lot.....
1957

1951

1957

1958

1958

All a bit before my time but it shows how long Brian was at it and the very high standards he maintained throughout.

And then there was his on going Jet Ace Logan comic strip work.  Jet-Ace Logan was a space pilot with the RAF, 100 years in the future.

And other one off comic stuff like...
Space Tug was featured Countdown Comic somewhere around 1971.

We've barely scratched the surface of Brian's work but there's only so much of it I can show you on this site so go look the fellow up on the internet; Enjoy the art and feed the dreams.
