Sargasso by Edwin Corley (1978) Cover by Paul Alexander

Originally published the previous year, this is the cover for the 1978 paperback edition with art by Paul Alexander
Its a very striking and captivating image, to see an astronaut at the bottom of the ocean, and although you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, this one does scream pick me up and read me

Penthouse - October 1978 - Lust in Space (1978)

So....
We're looking at a Penthouse photo shoot from 1978, when everyone was jumping on the sci-fi/Star Wars bandwagon.  The name of the feature is Lust in Space.  The photo are by Earl Miller and they happen to feature the  Men into Space helmet.
This gentleman below appears to be adrift when...
...he stumbles over this very attractive alien lady and her twin.  And then stuff happens!
...which I'm not going to talk about here.
....or show you either.

All of theses images and many more are from the Blog; The Seduction of Venus, which is definitely for grown ups only and is very good if you like that sort of thing*

Anyway to see more, so much more, go to:

Test Pilota Perxa (1978)

Test pilota Pirxa is a joint Polish-Soviet film from 1978.  It is based on the story The Inquest by Stanisław Lem from his short story collection More Tales of Pirx the Pilot.
The movie is about "finite nonlinears," robots that closely resemble human beings but are even more perfect than humans. They are intended to eventually replace human beings in space flights. Somewhat apprehensive about their usefulness, the United Nations sets up a space flight to determine their reactions to the human beings who also make up the crew. Pirx is selected as a commander of the flight, although the identity of the robots is not revealed to him...

Cosmos: War of the Planets (1978)

Cosmos: War of the Planets (also released in Europe as Year Zero: War In Space) is a 1978 Italian film directed by Alfonso Bresciaand starring John Richardson. It is considered a remake of the 1965 film Planet of the Vampires. It was also released as War of the Planets (not to be confused with the 1965 Antonio Margheriti film of that name), and also as Cosmo 2000, as well as Cosmo: Planet Without a Name.

The 4 films in Alfonso Brescia's 1978 sci-fi series are Star Odyssey (1978), Cosmos: War of the Planets (1978, aka Year Zero War in Space), Battle in Interstellar Space (1978, aka Battle of the Stars) and War of the Robots (1978, aka Reactor).

The Medusa Touch (1978)

Love The Medusa Touch, I've watched it a quite a few times through the years and it continues to entertain at whatever age.  Here's an brief and fleeting image that has almost nothing to do with the main plot.  These are, however, recycled Space 1999 spacesuits, so we'll make a big deal of it over here.

The Secret of the Marauder Satellite by Ted White (1978) Cover by Mike Hinge

The Secret of the Marauder Satellite by Ted White (Berkley Books) from 1978.  The art is by the rather brilliant Mike Hinge.  And here are some inks from a little later on.

Airfix Eagles - Captain Eagle (1978)

A long lost but much loved toy from back in the day.  There were a few different Eagles action figures but this was the coolest because 1978 was all about the Sci-fi and these guys were the same size as Star Wars figures.  If I recall correctly I think Captain Eagles and Han Solo were best mates and along with an army of time-traveller Micronauts often defended the universe from Baron Karza and Darth Vader but that was all in a living room far far away.

Starcrash (1978) A Gallery

A small but very sexy gallery featuring The Hoff and the lovely Ms Munro in a see-through space suit.  Enjoy.

It's all about the spacesuits, I swear.  If it wasn't then I would have filled the blog up with images like this...
...but that's not who we are over here at Say; Hello Spaceman.  Although technically that's spacesuit underwear for which I might start a new label.

Starcrash (1978) pt2

The other spacesuit from Starcrash.
I'm not sure if its oddness is to be applauded or laughed at but I suspect its the latter.

Starcrash (1978) pt1

Starcrash; An outlaw smuggler and her alien companion are recruited by the Emperor of the Galaxy to rescue his son and destroy a secret weapon by the evil Count Zarth Arn.

There you go, the plot from IMDb because I've never had the pleasure of this USA/Italian production.  I hear it's a bit rubbish but its got Caroline Munro in it so, being a man of a certain age, that makes almost anything redeemable...maybe!

The Moon Raiders by Patrick Moore (1978) Peter Elson

I had this piece in my files under the heading of Slaves to the Moon but I didn't want to post it until I had a date.  Unless any one knows different I'm going to go with this publication as the first to use it and label it 1978.  It's an absolute gem, is it not.
Below is the back cover and features quite a different looking space chap which may not be by Elson.  Again if anyone knows a bit more I would love to be able to confirm the artist in an update

Space Dust advert (1978)

If I remember rightly this image is from a TV advert for the snapping candy bits that sort of exploded on the tongue!   Helmets made by the man that went on to make the Outland helmets, I think.  Can't remember his name but I believe he also used to make some claim to having built and designed the Star Wars Stormtrooper helmets.  I now expect the comments section to spring into life to fill in the gaps

Tomorrow People - Series 7 (1978)

The Tomorrow People has not stood the test of time.  Actually I used  to think is was embarrassingly bad back in the day as well.  So I must have been feeling generous the day I brought the complete DVD boxset and decided to give it another chance... but it really is irredeemably naff.
Its taken a while to get to the final discs and the final set of stories.  It's consistently cheap and consistently badly written and annoys me even more than it should because at its heart it's such a great basic idea.
Anyway the original space suits as previously blogged had a basic charm and a look of their own but the ones used in series 7 (and series 8) are nothing special at all.  Seen in the stories; Achilles Heel and The Living Skins (And S8; War of the Empires) these suits have the goofiest helmets ever.  What were they thinking.

Lets never talk about them again.
