ELLI BONNET

ABOUT THE PATTERN

The Elli Bonnet is a quick little project that will keep you warm and looking super cute. It uses
under 25g of lace weight mohair held double which makes it perfect for using up your larger scraps
or trying out a new yarn. This project is beginner friendly but you will need to be able to do a knit
stitch, purl stitch, work i-cord, increase, and decrease. It is worked flat in 1x1 rib.

Sizes: one size


Finished measurements: 20cm wide x 43cm long (excluding i-cords)
Gauge: 24sts x 28 rows in 1x1 rib on 4mm needles (and 19sts x 28rows in stockinette on 4mm needles)

Recommended yarn:
25g of Kremke Soul Wool Silky Kid RMS held double (210m/25g; 72% mohair, 28% silk)

Other things you are going to need: 4mm needles, one stitch marker

GLOSSARY

CO = cast on
st/ sts = stitch/ stitches
RS = right side
WS = wrong side
K = knit
P = purl
M = marker
PM = place marker
SM = slip marker
sl1p wyif = slip one stitch purlwise with yarn in front
M1R = make one right, i.e. increase one stitch by picking up the horizontal strand between the
stitches from back to front and knitting as you normally would
M1L = make one left, i.e. increase one stitch by picking up the horizontal strand between the
stitches from front to back and knitting through the back loop
M1Rp = make one right purlwise, i.e. increase one stitch by picking up the horizontal strand
between the stitches from back to front and purling as you normally would
M1Lp = make one left purlwise, i.e. increase one stitch by picking up the horizontal strand between
the stitches from front to back and purling through the back loop
ssk = slip slip knit, i.e. slip one stitch knitwise, slip another stitch knitwise, slide both stitches back
onto the left needle, and knit them together through the back loop
ssp = slip slip purl, i.e. slip one stitch knitwise, slip another stitch knitwise, slide both stitches back
onto the left needle, and purl them together through the back loop
K2tog = knit two stitches together
P2tog = purl two stitches together

PATTERN STARTS HERE

I-cord

Using 4mm needles and two strands of silky kid, CO 4 sts

R1 (RS): K4
R2: sl4p wyif

Work rows 1 and 2 until the i-cord measures 45cm. End on a WS row.

Increase section

R3 (RS): K1, P1, M1R, PM, M1L, P1, K1 (= 6 sts)


R4: sl1p wyif, K1, P1, SM, P1, K1, sl1p wyif
R5: work to M in pattern, M1Rp, SM, M1Lp, work to end of row (= 8 sts)
R6: sl1p wyif, work to M, SM, work to last st, sl1p wyif

Work rows 3 to 6 just once.

R7 (RS): work to M, M1R, SM, M1L, work to end of row


R8: sl1p wyif, work to M, SM, work to last st, sl1p wyif
R9: work to M, M1Rp, SM, M1Lp, work to end of row
R10: sl1p wyif, work to M, SM, work to last st, sl1p wyif

Work rows 7 to 10 a total of 10 times. You should have 48 sts on your needles.

R11 (RS): work to M, M1R, SM, work to end of row (= 49 sts)
R12: sl1p wyif, work to last st, sl1p wyif

Work rows 11 and 12 just once.

Middle section

R13 (RS): work all sts as they appear, SM as you get to it


R14: sl1p wyif, work to last st, sl1p wyif

Work rows 13 and 14 a total of 17 times

Decrease section

R15 (RS): work to 2 sts before M, ssp, SM, work to end of row (= 48 sts)
R16: sl1p wyif, work to last st, sl1p wyif

Work rows 15 and 16 just once.

R17 (RS): work to 2 sts before M, ssk, SM, k2tog, work to end of row
R18: sl1p wyif, work to last st, sl1p wyif
R19: work to 2 sts before M, ssp, SM, p2tog, work to end of row
R20: sl1p wyif, work to last st, sl1p wyif

Work rows 17 to 20 a total of 11 times. You should have 4 sts on your needles. Remove M.

I-cord

R21 (RS): K4
R22: sl4p wyif

Work rows 21 and 22 until the i-cord measures 45cm. End on WS row.

Cast off all sts and weave in your ends.
