>>2865197Fuck off santi
South African Waxi boots. Best boots I've ever worn.
Gonna name drop them here because I see literally no mention, probably gonna sound like a marketing shill, but Aku is a fucking amazing brand. I guess they're bigger in EU (Italian company), but still a relatively small player. I heard they're popular with SAR in the UK and Nordics. Found out about them on a trip to Iceland. They do have a US web store, but with less selection.Literally the most common comfortable shit I've ever worn. Never get blisters. Also they're the only company making a three season Mountaineering boot that's actually comfortable to hike miles on the approach in. Since I discovered them, I've slowly replaced all my /out/ footwear.Light hiking / scrambling - Rock DFSBackpacking - Superalp GTXMountaineering / snow - Aurai DFSThey also make tacticool versions of a lot of their shit, if that's your jam.

currently doing a 1000km solo back packing trip starting in the Negev desert near the read sea and hoping to finish below the golan heights near kibutz Dan
>>2868468They told me it was a kfar nofesh, weird people all around their also in neot samadar and sharhout weird people, gonna go do some night walking now to catch up on some distance, even slacking all week and I must reach a town before shabbat
>>2868469neot smadar sell a bunch of organic shit some of it is good but buying its never worth the money also i dont like their mango juice after a long march through the desert was such a disappointment
>>2868466>did you stop in shitim?Damn near killed him!
>>2868471I was mad that they don't actually sell any real food, I tried to by some wee their the guy I asked told me the whole palce is sober, lieing fuck, I told the guy working in their "market" how do you people live in a whole like this and not have food, I'm at a big oasis right now probably the nicest one on the Negev, and I found a snake last night walking around in the dark
>>2866074Why did you auto sage my thread jannies?
Post your tents, your tentfu, which will be your next acquisition, etcI currently have my first tent (a typical cheap igloo camping tent, Hummer Igloo 3+) and 2 ultra light 3 season tents (forclaz mt900 tarp tent for 1 and 2 persons). I have used the latter in high mountain before, during summer (which is still cold), but usually in this part of Los Andes the wind is too strong for my tent. So I'm planning to buy a 4 season tent more appropriate for high-altitude and strong winds.Around here most people use the mountaineering line of Doite, pic related would be the one appropriate for my needs. The thing is that here tents are particularly expensive (that one costs +400usd), and I think I might be able to buy something half that price in the US, but I'm not familiar with US brands. Which one would you recommend?
>>2867234>>2867931 This but with warm water, wear a mask, safety glasses, gloves.
>>2868223This is a fiberglass free safe space chuddy, take your cancer rods somewhere else
>>2866999>66999niceI'm a full timer or wanderer or whatever. I bought a onetigres jovian last year and have spend over 200 nights in it, most of them standing for 2 weeks at a time taking the sun. It's still in great shape. It's heavy as fuck I think it's 13 pounds. So for me it's car camping only maybe if you're a super dad you can lug it a mile for state park primitive camping. But it's huge and bombproof I've had it up on mountain faces getting 40mph winds it's a good tent for car camping.
>>2868177It was decent enough in my opinion.
You are in the middle of a huge state forest, several days of walking away from civilization.Suddenly, you come across this structure. What do you do?
>>2866550Go to any museum with medieval steel items. They didn't even have the internet and step by step guides for it.
>>2866550I'd recommend the book Frontier Iron if you actually care.White men literally blazed trails, roads, and supply lines a thousand miles from the coast with no authorities or existing infrastructure and starting forging on the spot because no one could haul steel anywhere.

>>2868144nothing to worry about unless you have a bullseye shaped wound or you are european
>>2868192lyme disease does not always show the signature bullseye rash. Sometimes it's just a blob and sometimes it doesn't show up at all.
>>2868196Lyme is also not the only thing to worry about, ticks have many gifts for us
>>2868144They fold up their legs when they're feeding to help keep a low profile and be harder to spot. Once they start swelling like that, they've been on you for a while. 4 days is crazy if it was actually dug in for that long. If it was actually dead when you pulled it off, it could also be that you just pulled the body off and the head is still there. It's pretty common for that to happen once they get dug in well and especially if you're just pulling them off with your fingers and not a pair of tweezers or something.
>>2868253The head is clearly there in the picture. I have never ever seen anyone 'leave the head in'. Does not happen unless you're stupid enough to cut it off accidentally.
I wanted to fish today and this hognose wouldn't let me get to my shit and it weirdly blew air at me and kinda jumped towards me at one point and now I'm annoyed
>>2865253For most snakes, no, but for a hognose? Absolutely.Next time you see one play dead try to put it back on its belly. It'll look at you out of the corner of its eye, roll back on its side or back, then stick its tongue out as if to say "no no I'm REALLY dead, like in the cartoons". Shit is genuine hilarious and it's something I've seen toddlers do.
>>2865898Sounds like something a hylic would say.

>>2864980There's Brokeback
Looking for places in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, or Idaho.I just graduated and am looking for some places to go backpacking for 3-7 days. Any local anons have recommendations?
>>2868128Those two spots in particular are as crowded as the places people are ironically recommending, they are pretty great though. I haven't been beyond those two areas in the Winds but I'm sure it's probably just as nice and without the people.Backpacking in Yellowstone can actually get you pretty remote, especially on the Eastern edge of the park as you get into the Absarokas, which are as remote as it gets in the lower 48, very dense grizzly territory though. I haven't been personally, the bears scare me. The Bechler area is also good though, not quite as remote, lots of cool waterfalls. Glacier is great for backpacking also, gets you away from most of the crowds there while still having the same spectacular scenery. In Grand Teton it's harder to escape the crowds since it's smaller and all day-hikeable, and the Teton Crest is extremely popular for backpacking especially since it's doable without a permit.Anyway, I prefer backpacking in canyons in southern Utah personally.
>>2868165>Those two spots in particular are as crowded as the places people are ironically recommending, they are pretty great though.Yes their popularity is why I recommended them. I imagine if OP was prepared for a more serious remote undertaking he wouldn't be asking on /out/ and instead looking at maps making up his own route.
uintasWind riversSawtoothsTetonsDo NOT go to yellowstone, worse than all 4 i just mentioned
>>2868213I don't know how I know this but you're some sort of uber goober. Grand Teton and Yellowstone are great.
>>2868216I dont know how i know this, but you cant read. Grand teton is on my list and is my favorite np. Yellowstone is crowded and requires far too much overhead and logistics management only to not be better than the other places i listed for backpacking
Leave home for Navy. Return to home town. Go to river where I fished since 10yrs old.Woods gone, condos, strip mall and restaurants replace then.Find moss covered rock i use to sit on, now spray painted artwork project. Sit and wonder why?

Albums that either evoke imagery of being in nature or are well suited for an /out/ing. I'll start: Fishmans - Long Season (1996)

Shin Joon Hyung and Jang Hyun's "Beautiful Rivers and Mountains" is /out/ as it gets. Similar environmental patriotism to "This Land is Your Land" except they got arrested for making it and its psychedelic rock
I just want to swim in a creek again and all of them near me are shallow as hell/polluted
>>2867961sounds like a skill issue.
>>2867961You're telling me you can't climb a fence, yet you can dive off cliffs, unlike those damn normies? Interesting.
/out/ give me recs on leather boots that are stylish yet practical. Preferably waterproof. Been thinking about the danner light 2, but I wanna know whats out there.
>>2856830i've never tried them, but maybe the jim greens barefoot ones
Friendly bump
>>2860395>What are some good half-boot trail runner type shoes? My heavy ass decathlon leather hiking boots gave out so I was looking into this as well. Might get a la sportiva raptor 3 mid, but I worry with goretex it's too warm for summer. I was checking out a scarpa rush 2 mid too.
I haven’t worn anything with a raised heel in maybe ten years. I saw a mega thread on a running forum where the OP asked for an explanation as to why shoes have heels that sit higher than the forefoot. No one could give a reasonable answer; generic “support” seemed like a go-to but with know real thought out into it. Stepping back it really didn’t make any sense. Why would we need to support our legs and feet, outside of injury or some kind of Forest Gump birth defect? “You’re a perfectly normal, healthy person; wear these orthopedic shoes so your ankles are always in plantar flexion and you’re bent into lumbar lordosis whenever you’re standing or walking.” The further I looked into it, the more I realized the truth: there is no reason. It’s almost entirely cosmetic. >but hundreds of years can’t be wrong We drank mercury as medication and doctors went straight from autopsies to childbirth without washing their hands. George Washington was probably killed by blood letting. People are fucking stupid.Shoes have raised heels to make you look taller. That’s it. That’s almost the entire reason. And they have narrow toes so they can come to a point, making your feet look longer so girls will think you have a bigger dick. >almostWe used to ride horses everywhere. Separate heels allow you to lock against a stirrup. This specific use case worked its way into fashion as horse ownership became more ubiquitous. Prior to that, everyone wore sandals. There are options now, but people still chose the raised heel. Why? For the same reason raised heels still exist: tradition. Form over function. “It’s just always been that way”/“it’s what I’ve always used.”

I don't know if it counts but when I go camping I use a lantern, old mountaineers kerosene stove, canvas tent. It just feels right, when I'm out there. It adds to the atmosphere.
Camped at a Rendezvous in south west Wisconsin. Some 500 campers. Two fields full of canvas tents.
are their backpacks still good?
>>2866889Looks like the same globalist shite that MEC turned into. By that, I would say no.
>>2866889ya the daylite is pretty much perfect for a day hike. i pretty much always take one with me when i go hunting. plus they will repair or replace any of their gear you send into them, no questions asked. they make good stuff and you can replace it every year for a new one if you want.
I have a Farpoint 40 and and a Daylte and love them both. the Farpoint I've travelled round the world with for over a decade now
>>2866889That pic you posted is more of an urban commuter bag, in my opinion and less an /out/ bag.I have the manta 24, its a great bag. The form factor is large for a daypack but since it has an internal frame it still carries well when its not filled. My only complaint is that the lumbar belt pockets are hard to close with one hand, since the pocket material isn't rigid enough to keep the zipper in line. It also creaks a little bit but that's really not a big deal for me.
>>2866889I have that backpack and it's great for a day hike.Very comfy how the weight distribute. Also the texturized back with a mesh makes it pretty fresh.
