On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

Northern Mouse in an Iron Hole

Well, this is where we pull into the station & disembark this iron horse, this train of thought. Gonna kick it tomorrow & twist up a handful of spliffs to take to the beach for Dubtember, See you all there, I hope. If you stop by, come over to where my lounger is stretched out & introduce yourselves. We could maybe start a party.

But for now...

Jay Semko (John Peter Semko) is a Canadian singer / songwriter, bass player & multi-instrumentalist, most known as a soundtrack composer for film & television.

Here's one that he created as a most enjoyable non-soundtrack chunk 'o mostly acoustic rock music...

Not Canadian at all, but somehow showing up on Iron Music, Govinda is a famous Indian / Italian band out of Florence, Italy. Govinda included Satya Mana, Pandit Ananda, Yasodanandana, Maureen Fernando, Luigi Gabaldi, Mario Leonelli, Chandra & DJ Om formed in the 1990s with the aim of combining the then popular ambient techno sound with ethnic Indian influences. They have toured & collaborated with other artists such as Transglobal Underground, Loop Guru, Lovecalò, Farfa, & Stefano Noferini.

They created a style of world music, sometimes called ethnic electronica, mixing ethnic with electronic sounds & dance or chillout beats. Their sound has been labeled "ethno-introspective ambient world music".

The long "Atom Heart Madras Suite" that closes this, their 1998 disc, is a truly progressive work with many different sections, mostly ambient or EBM-based, with a few trancey injections.

Wayne's World

Well, I've finished with the Cup of Tea Records shares for this month. I have a couple related posts to finish out the month, then it's off to the beach for Dubtember.

Cup of Tea made a deal with Canada's Iron Music label to release licensed editions of assorted Cup of Tea music. Iron Music was founded in 1994 by Aubrey Winfield. They released many items from original Canadian artists as well as Cup of Tea music.

What could be more Canadian to start off this CoTR adjacent label than The Pursuit of Happiness with their alt-rock classic(???) "Gretsky Rocks".

Led by Edmonton, Alberta, frontman Moe Berg, The Pursuit of Happiness formed in 1985 when Berg & drummer Dave Gilby moved to Toronto, Ontario. There they soon teamed up with bassist Johnny Sinclair. They added sisters Tamara & Natasha Amabile as backing vocalists to round out the roster.

In March 2006, they were inducted into the Canadian Indies Hall of Fame.
