On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

& the Dark Persists

Continuing on with Darkjazz music, here are several more divergent offerings to showcase some variety in the genre.

Gamardah Fungus is a Dark Ambient drone outfit from Dnipro, Ukraine. They play slowed drone Ambient featuring Darkjazz stylings with electroacoustic instrumentation incorporating field recordings. This is one of their finest moments...

Although trumpeter & composer Jon Hassell is primarily know as the creator of Fourth World music (& his work on it with Brian Eno), he has collaborated with many & dabbled in numerous genres. He has released several Darkjazz offerings, this being my favorite, The strangely beautiful title is taken from a poem by the great 13th century Sufi mystic Jalaluddin Rumi. The rest of it is: "Last night the moon came dropping its clothes in the street/I took it as a sign to start singing/Falling up into the bowl of sky."  Listen to Hassell's trumpet sing...

Schwarzeneggerization is the Darkjazz / noir-lounge project of Ukrainian Anton Korablev serving as a distinctive tribute to that unforgettable pair of cinematic hauntologists, Angelo Badalamenti & David Lynch. There are synthesizer swipes, big-ass rimshots, Noir reversals of indie guitar twang, decayed xylophones, vibrato stacattos, drumesque freakouts, & overamped pulsatronics. Each track on this debut limited-edition cassette Big Ed's Dead Squirrel Wig & Magnificent Mustache feels like a track for an unreleased unfilmed Film Noir by David Lynch or a horror movie by John Carpenter.

Here Schwarzeneggerization is: Igor Kharabebasku - guitar; Anton Perezimnik - keyboards & strings; & Anton Korablev - double bass, drums, & noises.

Fab, Trip 10

Yesterday found Jon Hassell teaming up with Mandalay. Today he's hooked up with Bluescreen to try his hand at the ole Trippitty-hoppity hisself. So, OK, it's not really Trip-hop but if Hassell tried it & wants to call it that, whatever...it's close enough for rock 'n' roll.

Jon Hassell was an American trumpet player & composer best known for developing the concept of "Fourth World" music. According to Hassell, "Fourth World" is a "unified primitive/futurist sound" combining various world ethnic music with modern electronics. The concept first appeared on Hassell's 1980 collaboration with Brian Eno, Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Musics.

Bluescreen was a loose collective of musicians made up of keyboard player Pete Scaturro, drummer Bryan Mantia, guitarist Joe Gore, & DJ/sampler/programmer BLK Lion.

On Dressing for Pleasure, Trevor Dunn, Islam Shabazz, Flea & Buckethead provide bass on various tracks.
