On any post, if the link is no longer good, leave a comment if you want the music re-uploaded. As long as I still have the file, or the record, cd, or cassette to re-rip, I will gladly accommodate in a timely manner all such requests.

The Month of Mauz...Circling the Square

Rounding out Jimmy Cauty’s sphere of music with some of The Orb.

Brought together by their love of ambient music, Dub, soundscapes, & science fiction, Cauty teamed up with musical genius Alex Paterson in 1988 to form the Orb. Paterson had worked as a roadie for Killing Joke during the 80s. He began to be influenced by Chicago house music during the mid-to-late 80s. He joined the A&R department of E.G. Records Ltd., home to Brian Eno himself. Alex & Jimmy Cauty had been recording an album during the turn of 1989-90, but the two split in April 1990 due to Paterson's fear that the Orb had become known more as a The KLF side-project than an original act. While Cauty continued on with the KLF, Paterson went on to create a tremendous catalog of music as the Orb. The group's lineup has shifted over the years, with Alex being the only consistent member. Notable members include Thrash & Thomas Fehlmann. Although never officially a member, Youth (a.k.a. Martin Glover) has been instrumental throughout the group's existence (he co-owned the label WAU! Mr. Modo Recordings with Alex). The two had known each other since they were young, working together since Alex was a roadie for the group Killing Joke, in which Youth played bass.

Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld was originally released as 2xCDs in 1991 by Big Life. This is the 2006 deluxe edition with the added Peel Sessions & Aubrey mixes.

The Month of Mauz...Hope You Beat the Meat

Meat Beat Manifesto is an electronic music group originally consisting of Jack Dangers & Jonny Stephens formed in 1987 in Swindon, UK. Their sound is hard to nail down as it is constantly evolving. They make electronic dance music heavily influenced by industrial, techno, Dub, breakbeat. The band's live shows are intense audio-visual experiences, with dancers, led by choreographer Marcus Adams, in costumes designed by artist Craig Morrison, with videoclips accompanying live instruments, sequenced electronic instruments, & live DJing.

Dangers & Stephens left Perennial Divide in 1988 to take up residency in Soho. Armed Audio Warfare was scheduled to be the bands debut album, set for release in May 1988. It was to be their true Meat Beat manifesto. The masters to that album were damaged in a fire at the new Meat Beat HQ, Berwick St, Soho. New tracks were written & recorded. They were released as the 2xLP Storm the Studio in May 1989.

Here is that debut release. Take it away William S Burroughs...

Armed Audio Warfare as it was released in 1990 is a compilation of previously unreleased & rare tracks that embody the initial Meat Beat's manifesto. Had Armed Audio Warfare been released as planned, it might have sounded like this. The version of "Reanimator" is exclusive to the Armed Audio Warfare release. The songs "Kneel & Buzz" & "Kick That Man" are incorrectly switched in the track listings. "Kick That Man" comes before "Kneel & Buzz". The version of "Give Your Body its Freedom" is a different version of the song from the Strap Down single. The song, "Marrs Needs Women" is a different version (& spelling) of "Mars Needs Women" which appears the God O.D. single.

Scratching the Circle

The Orb should be well known to all. The group was riginally formed by Jimmy Cauty (of The KLF) & Alex Paterson in 1988 as a project to explore their fondness for ambient music, Dub, soundscapes, & science fiction. They became pioneers of the early-90s "ambient house" genre. Over the years Alex has been the only consistent member, whose other notables have included Thrash (Kim Weston) & Thomas Fehlmann. Closely associated with the Orb & at many times a guiding voice isYouth (a.k.a. Martin Glover). He co-owned the label WAU! Mr. Modo Recordings along with Alex.

The Orb's electro-ambient house first meets Lee 'Scratch' Perry's ethereal, cosmic Dub in 2012s Orbserver in the Star House. This coming together of two disparate stylings works so well primarily because of the balance the Orb are able to strike between their own unique minimal house sound & adapting to accommodate Lee's Dub roots.

The Orb were prepared with a few base tracks & a bare-bones idea when they walked into the studio before meeting Lee for the first time back in 2004. But Perry had his own creative ideas. The Orbsters quickly found the limited number of tracks they had previously laid down to be insufficient to record all the ideas Lee inspired.

They proceeded to craft the rest of the record there in the studio in the truest form of collaboration. The Observer sits in the Star House & calls it out like he sees it,

This collaboration between The Orb & Lee 'Scratch' Perry take many twists & turns. The original release really works as Perry's unique voice melds perfectly with the tracks. It is not ambient Orb, but Dub Orb.
