A Winter Cuppa with SSS

Statik Sound System formed in the early part of 1994 after band members had been in a variety of noise, Dub & breakbeat acts. Statik Sound System signed to Bristol's own Cup of Tea Records. They produced 2 albums, a Remix album, 6 singles/EPs, & appeared on countless compilation albums. 

They have been remixed by the likes of Mr Scruff, Cut la Roc, Spring Heel Jack, More Rockers, The Egg, Tao, Ian Simmonds, The Bullitnuts, & Aim to name but a few. They have toured around the globe with a bizarre mixture of bands as diverse as Spiritualized, Black Francis, Receiver & Smith and Mighty.

After putting together their own studio in 1998 they released their last album, My Ooh-Zik in 2001 which I shared here.

Last October I shared Statik Sound Systems - Tempesta. Got some good response to that so thought I'd share another of their releases here. This is a little less breakbeat & a bit more Trip-hop. While Tempesta was on Cup of Tea Records, by the time of this release CoTR had ceased operation. Statik Sound System had moved on to Remote Records for this one.

All that Tricky & Friends made me ramp up these Bristol beats 

 

Statik Sound System's debut came at the height of Trip-hop. It has all the best of the genre with brick-heavy beats & a feather-light female vocalist but the diversity of the band members' past experience in a variety of breakbeat, Dub, & noise acts adds their own unique elements, like the Dub & jazz stylings, or the journey from urban industrialism to outer space.
