Their leader is interested in knowing that the man Batman is after was responsible for everyone in the city being transformed into salt wants the man for himself and they try to jump Batman. The Caped Crusader is saved from a pile on when the Flash intervenes. Batman takes the man he was after and brings him to Justice League headquarters. There, the man introduces himself as Marmaduke Mantick, who was a collected of ancient parchments. He explains that one night he followed the instructions for an ancient spell and summoned a Chthonic demon. The Demon told him to go to Midway City and touch the Philosophers Stone that they had on display there. Price $100.00 USD - Order Here

Script by Bill Finger, pencils by Sheldon Moldoff, inks by Charles Paris.

The Joker, listening in on a television lecture by Batman, hears the caped crusader mention that ancient science believed in four elements--earth, fire, air, and water--but modern science has rejected this belief, and modern science has made it impossible for criminals to escape the law for long. The Joker, incensed, challenges Batman by mail to a duel of wits, as he commits crimes based on the ancient elements. He sends as a clue to his first crime a bottle of air. Under analysis, it proves to have traces of burned kerosene, leading Batman to believe the Joker intends to rob a plane of its airmail. This proves to be the case, as the Joker scoops up mail at the airport with a giant vacuum cleaner, then reverses the suction to blow the approaching Batman and Robin into the air. They cling to the lines from a passing blimp and are safe, but the Joker makes a clean getaway. Subsequently, the Joker capitalizes on an earthquake to loot an amusement park and later traps Batman and Robin in a ring of fire shot from the mouth of a huge Joker-faced sky-sled. He taunts them with the information that he is to steal the Linden Necklace next, worn by Jenny Linden in her musical comedy-performance of The Arabian Nights. The performance takes place on a floating stage, suiting the Joker's crime-pattern. With an acrobatic stunt, Robin is able to flip over the fire-ring and drive the Batmobile through to convey Batman out of harms way. Then they arrive on the floating stage in time to thwart the jewel robbery and to trap the Joker in a huge genie-bottle prop. Batman remarks that the Joker forgot a fifth element--the element of surprise.

Cover pencils by Gil Kane, inks by Neal Adams. Plague of the Galactic Jest-Master, script by Denny O'Neil, pencils by Dick Dillin, inks by Joe Giella

Continued from last issue.... As Hawkman and the Atom resume their mission to Thanagar to find a cure for the insane Jane Loring, the cosmic menace known as Jest-Master (who brings insanity wherever he goes) is en route to Thanagar as well. When the two heroes make a stop at a Thanagarian space station they are greeted by the soldiers stationed there. Suddenly the soldiers (due to Jest-Master's proximity to the station) go mad and begin attacking Hawkman and soon the two heroes also lose their sanity. Aboard the vessel, the Thanagarian criminal Norch Lor remarks about how this is the doomsday prophecy that he learned of and attempted to capture people's souls for.

On the planet Oa, the Guardians of the Universe learn of the Jest-Master's menace and attempt to contact the Green Lantern, who is out travelling America with the Green Arrow. Unable to reach the Emerald Crusader, they advise the Justice League of the danger instead. Superman then takes Batman, Flash and Black Canary out into space to help their friends. Arriving at the Thanagarian space station, they have to fight both the Atom and Hawkman until the two snap out of their temporary insanity. While contemplating how to deal with a menace that can make them go totally insane, they notice that Jest-Master's insanity had the opposite effect on Jean Loring. When they send the Flash to penetrate the energy membrane around Jest-Master's ship the Scarlet Speedster learns that whoever crosses into the energy field goes insane as long as they are inside.

Realizing that Jean is the only one who could enter the field and maintain her sanity, the JLA members tie themselves to her and have her guide them into the ship. While Jean and the Atom keep the mentally unstable Jest-Master occupied the rest of the Justice League overcome the onslaught of insanity and easily defeat the Jest-Master and his troops. In the aftermath of the battle Jean Loring begins to cry as she realizes that the whole ordeal has cured her of her insanity. - DC Comics

Marvel Tops Comic Book Sales in 2014

Dan Slott's Amazing Spider-Man #1, which saw the return of Peter Parker to the title - after the whole, wonderful, Dr Octopus diversion - was the biggest selling comic of 2014, according to Previews, and the biggest selling comic of the last decade.

Marvel scored nine of the top ten slots, with only The Walking Dead #132 spoiling their otherwise clean sheet.

DC's highest selling title was Batman #32, penultimate chapter of  Zero Year, which came in 14th place.

The best selling graphic novel was Saga, Volume 3, and DC Collectibles' The New 52: Justice League Action Figure Seven-Pack Boxed Set, was the best-selling toy product to specialty retailers in 2014.

In stark contrast to the comic book charts, DC Collectibles held 50 per cent of the top ten slots for toy sales.

1) If you’re not already doing so, follow @DCComics on Twitter.

Five winners will be chosen at random for both the New York and Los Angeles premieres and direct messaged for their info—so be sure to check your direct messages! All ages are welcome to this event, though Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is rated PG-13, so please use discretion in bringing younger viewers.

That’s all there is to it! Good luck, hope to see you at the premiere and remember to pick up Justice League: Throne of Atlantis when it arrives in stores on January 27th!

Ten Moments that Mattered: Lex Luthor Joins the Justice League

From DC Comics / Author Tim Beedle

With a new year on the horizon and the holidays upon us, it’s a good time to take a look back at 2014 to remember and remark upon a few of its key DC Entertainment moments. Some of these moments played out on the comic book page or the screen, others were real-life happenings that shaped what we’ll be reading and seeing over the years ahead. If you’re a DC Comics fan or just an entertainment fan in general, they all mattered. It’s been a great year full of both ups and downs, but these are the big ones. These are our DCComics.com “Ten Moments that Mattered” for 2014.

Since its introduction in 1960, the Justice League’s lineup has always been fairly fluid. It’s remained pretty consistent since the introduction of The New 52, but longtime readers knew that eventually the roster would change and new members would be introduced.

However, it’s unlikely anyone suspected one of them would be Lex Luthor.

Yes, as if Lex’s contributions in taking down the Crime Syndicate in Geoff Johns’ Forever Evil weren’t surprising enough, Johns followed it up with the Justice League storyline “Injustice League,” which found Lex joining the team. Is it possible one of the most destructive villains in the entire DC Universe has turned over a new leaf?

This Just Happened: Batman Infected by the Amazo Virus!

From DC Comics

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read JUSTICE LEAGUE #37 yet and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!).

The Amazo Virus has been running rampant ever since the “accident” happened in Lex Luthor’s laboratory at the end of JUSTICE LEAGUE #35. With many of the Justice League heroes hospitalized with the virus, its up to Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman to stop the virus from spreading further in JUSTICE LEAGUE #37.

While working to detain patient zero outside Lex’s laboratory, the super heroes learn two very disturbing facts about the virus: Not only does the virus transform a human host into a meta-human, but the virus can survive outside the human body and continuously mutate!

How will a mutating, airborne, meta-human-making virus ever be contained?!

On individual cases, the JLA members experience visions of their own imminent deaths, and as a result are filled with a resolve to quit risking their lives as super-heroes, and to disband the Justice League.

Simultaneously, Green Lantern is overcome by Nekron, an alien who feeds on others' fear, and the creator of the other heroes' death-visions. (Green Lantern is the only JLA member immune to Nekron's power, since a Green Lantern must be born without fear; thus, the alien must defeat GL physically.)

Wonder Woman rejoins the ranks, only to find herself the only member unaffected by Nekron's death-visions. Despite her rallying efforts, Nekron defeats the heroes, and then threatens to wipe out Midway City with a solar flare, unless Hawkman shows up to stop him.

Still under the spell of fear, Hawkman has Hawkgirl leave the city, apparently abandoning his adopted home to its doom.

‘Wonder Woman’ Gal Gadot Signs Three-Picture Deal with Warner Bros.

Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress who was recently cast as Wonder Woman, has signed a three-picture deal with Warner Bros., Variety has confirmed.

We’re told Gadot will play the role in not only the upcoming “Batman-Superman” flick, but in a Justice League movie and a Wonder Woman standalone film.

The Israeli entertainment show “Good Evening with Gai Pines” reported that Gadot will earn $300,000 per film.

The untitled “Batman-Superman” film was originally scheduled to open next year, but has been pushed back to May 6, 2016.

USA TODAY Announces "Trinity War"

Source: DC Comics

This summer, a war of epic proportions will hit the DC Universe.

Kicking off in July, “Trinity War” will find the Justice League, the Justice League of America, and Justice League Dark teams battling one another in a monumental crossover event. Spanning over six issues throughout the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, and JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, “Trinity War” will see Earth’s biggest heroes going head to head in an explosive arc that will defy the superhero genre.

“It's going to be really interesting when these characters do come together, because some of them haven't met, some of them have, and what happens and unfolds in this is going to force them to choose sides,” writer Geoff Johns (JUSTICE LEAGUE; JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA) revealed to USA TODAY, who announced “Trinity War” earlier this morning both online and in print.

(More After The Break)

As for how “Trinity War” will impact the future of the DC Universe?

“It's not going to end wrapped up in a bow,” Johns continued to tease. “Something really, really major happens that kicks off some pretty crazy stuff at the end of August.”

To read the full interview with Geoff Johns and with co-writer Jeff Lemire (JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA; JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK), head on over to USA TODAY. And above, check out Ivan Reis and Joe Prado’s jaw-dropping triptych cover for JUSTICE LEAGUE #22, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #6, and JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #22.

Christopher Nolan Taking Over Justice League, And Bringing Bale Back As Batman?

From Cinema Blend

We've gotten really worried about the Justice League movie lately, with news that Warner Bros. had thrown out Will Beall's script for the film, and a lot of us worried the movie-- like George Miller's attempt years ago-- would fall apart entirely. But of course, Justice League carries enormous potential for the studio, their version of the massively successful The Avengers, and they're not going to give up that fast. Especially if they've got an ace up their sleeve to make it happen with aplomb.

Who's that ace? Christopher Nolan, of course. No, he hasn't been involved in any Justice League plans so far, stating over and over that his role as producer on this summer's Superman effort Man of Steel will be his last effort in superhero stories, and he's completely done with Batman. But according to Latino Review, the scrapping of Will Beall's script is a sign that has changed… and "Chris Nolan has completely taken over the DC Universe at Warner Bros."
