The Top Ten Hottest Women Of 2009

Written By: Ken Hulsey

Last year I posted a very popular article about who, you, the Monster Island News reader, thought were the 'hottest women of the year' based on your in site searches.

Well, here we are again at the end of yet another year and I bet ya thought I was going to forget to make a list of the ladies that set your hearts on fire during the past 365 days?

NO WAY!

Though I did wait this year to the very last minute to compile the list as a tease, you know that I would ever forget to feed all you horny fanboys out there.

Oh, before I forget, I did make a few adjustments to my criteria this year. Essentially to make my job a whole lot easier, and to give all the young ladies a fair shake, I made all the women from last years list non-eligible for this years list. In doing so, I may have disappointed a few of you, but I promise that these 'fresh' faces will more than satisfy.

Enough of my banter, let's get right to it, shall we.

10. Rachel Grubb

I don't think that any of the young women that made this years list has had a busier 2009 than the fair Rachel Grubb.

Honestly to list all of her 2009 activities here would take up way too much time and space. I think that it would be quicker to list the things that Rachel didn't do over the past year......um.....well...I can say that she didn't go to the moon.

At least I don't think she did.

Rachel did, however, star in such films as "Strip Club Slasher" and "Terror Overload", plus, she was featured in several marvelous photo shoots.

Look out for more Rachel Grubb in 2010!

9. Elske McCain

Like the for mentioned Rachel Grubb, Elske McCain has had a very busy, and sometimes troubling, 2009.

The very curvy Miss McCain did much more than just make men go bonkers during the past year, staring in such films as "Strip Club Slasher", "Bad Girls" and "Killer Biker Chicks."

Though the very promising Scream Queen had plenty of success in 2009, she also had a fair amount of disappointments, including being dropped at the last minute from the film "Breath of Hate."

It can be a forgone conclusion that with curves that don't quit, we will see much more of Elske in 2010!

8. Suzi Lorraine

Suzi is long-time Monster Island News favorite and a good friend to yours truly, though I gave her no special treatment when it came to this list.

Suzi has always been known as a hard worker, and 2009 was the busiest of her career.

Suzi focused a good portion of her creative talents, and time, this year on writing and staring in the film "Won Ton Baby", which can only be described as horror/screwball comedy that pays homage to cult-classics like "Basket Case".

Hey if you like Elvis, strange birth defects and the lovely Suzi Lorraine, than this will be the film for you.

Suzi's 'pet' project, however, was just one of many things that kept her jumping this past year. She co-hosted the Gorezone Film Festival in London, did a "Knock Out Abs" infomercial, two restaurant commercials, appeared on "As the World Turns" several times, wrote a monthly magazine column, and worked on two feature films.

Wew!

Let us also not forget another of Suzi's latest films, "Destined to be Ingested", which wins the award for the best title for a cannibal movie ever.

Suzi really is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside!

7. Chase Masterson

Chase Masterson is truly a lovely and multi-talented treasure.

Highlights from Chases 2009 don't include any new films or television roles, but she did perform a stellar concert (yes, she sings...and sings well) at the Universal City Walk and pose for some very sexy, and patriotic, photos for charity.

Hey, when you have one of sci fi's sexiest women posing nude, wrapped in an American flag, your going to get some attention.

I should also note that one of Chase's films, "Yesterday Was A Lie" (2008), is finally getting a release, so look for that one soon.

Chase also has three projects pending, "R.U.R", "Station 21 (3D)" and "The Camel Bookmobile", so odds are she may be about to experience a real career upswing.

6. Scarlet Salem

Okay, here is a quick quiz. What do our number 10, number 9 and number 6 lovelies have in common?

The answer: All three were in the 2009 film, "Strip Club Slasher."

Now, I don't want to take anything away from actress/model Scarlet Salem, but when you combine a beautiful blond with the words "strip club"....well you figure it out.

All joking aside, Scarlet Salem really struck a chord with horror movie fans in 2009, though I really think that her best work came in the form of being the subject in front of photographer H Morgen's camera.

Honestly the duo of Morgen and Salem combined to produce some truly magical gothic images in 2009.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this type of photography in 2010, as I am sure you are as well.

Did I mention that Scarlet was also an actress.....?

5. Laura Vandervoort

Remakes of classic movies and television shows were big time news in 2009, and when the busty blond, Laura Vandervoort, landed a role as Lisa on ABC's remake of "V", well a high position on this list was a lock.

Already a fanboy favorite from playing Supergirl/Kara Kent on "Smallville", Vandervoort sure didn't hurt her popularity any by moving on to the alien invasion drama.

Here's a bit from Vandervoort's studio bio:

In 2006 Vandervoort shot her first feature film, "The Lookout," opposite Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mathew Goode and Isla Fisher. She got her big break at age 19 when she landed the lead role of Sadie Harrison on the CTV TV series "Instant Star," which ran for four seasons and was extremely popular in Canada.

Vandervoort began acting at the age of 13, she had always been an entertainer, putting on shows for family and friends. But what triggered her interest in the arts was the film "My Girl," which she received from her aunt at a very young age, and after watching it realized that acting was what was inside her.

Some of her other credits include "CSI," "The Dresden Files," "Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire," "Alley Cats Strike," "Mutant X," "Prom Queen" and "Twice in a Lifetime."

A tomboy for years, Vandervoort loves most sports, especially soccer, karate, basketball, tennis, gymnastics and baseball. Entering karate at age seven, she found herself with a second degree Black Belt at by 16. She currently divides her time between Los Angeles and her native Canada.

From the response that the curvy actress has received here, I wouldn't be surprised if she moves higher up on next years list.

4. Eve Myles

I have to admit that I have a 'thing' for actress Eve Myles. I don't know if it is the gap between her front teeth, her raven-black hair, or how she says, "Reese I Capture Aliens" with a British accent, but she really melts my butter.

Ahem.....

In 2009 the BBC mini-series "Torchwood: Children of Earth" was epic television that dazzled viewers on both sides of the Atlantic. The series really backed up my claim that "Torchwood" is the best sci fi on TV...period.

Eve Myles is a big part of what makes "Torchwood" stand out amongst the competition. The actress really is a scene stealer and is quite easy on the eyes as well.

If you aren't a fan of the show or the stunning Myles, then you really need to get with the program.

3. Rachel Nichols

Most actresses never get a chance to star in two summer blockbusters in one year, but Rachel Nichols manged to do just that in 2009. Indeed the lovely blond was cast as Gaila, in what is arguably the best movie of the year, "Star Trek", and as Shana 'Scarlett' O'Hara in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra."

Not a bad 2009 for Nichols by any ones standards.

A small-town New England native, Nichols first caught the attention of a modeling scout while attending Columbia University, from which she graduated with a double major in math and economics. After campaigns with such brands as Guess, L'Oreal, Abercrombie & Fitch and Nicole Miller, she broke into the world of acting when her agent sent her out on her first-ever audition--for a "Sex and the City" episode called "The Vogue Idea," in which she guest-starred as the restaurant hostess who becomes a birthday present from Samantha to her boyfriend, Richard. She followed that with a role in "Autumn in New York," with Richard Gere. In 2003, she starred in "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd," the prequel to "Dumb and Dumber." Nichols has also guest-starred on the ABC series "In the Line of Fire."

Here's more math for ya. Hot actress + "Star Trek" = Number 3 on MIN's 2009 list.

2. Elisabeth Shue

Many of you may be surprised by both the number 2 and number 1 hotties on this years list, but there are legitimate reasons for these ladies to covet such high rankings.

Elisabeth Shue has always been a woman with a notorious figure, and throughout the years she hasn't been shy about showing it off.

So, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that when it was announced that the buxom Shue was going to be cast in a movie about wild partying and man eating fish, that more than one eyebrow was raised.

The film that I am talking about is the remake of the 1978 cult film "Piranha", but before you get any visions in your mind about Shue taking her top off and partying it up, let me drop on bummer bomb on you, she plays the town sheriff.

Regardless of that fact, MIN readers have been more than just a little interested in seeing as much of Elisabeth Shue as they can.

1. Allison Scagliotti

Possibly a big surprise here at number 1?

Just like last year's top cutie, Haruka Ayase, this years favorite, Allison Scagliotti, is more of a down to Earth, girl-next-door type.

I guess that this just goes to prove that what guys are 'really' looking for is a girl they can take home to mom.

Am I right guys?.....guys?.....guess I lost a few there.

Anyway, "Warehouse 13" is huge hit for the SyFy Channel and the fact that Scagliotti is on the show, certainly helped the actress capture our number one.

On "Warehouse 13" Scagliotti plays Claudia Donovan, a young, hip, brilliant techno-wiz, who manages to successfully breach the Warehouse's complex security system in order to track down Artie (Rubinek). With a natural aptitude for science and technology, Donovan's talents enable her to manipulate and activate many of the objects contained in the Warehouse to help the Team.

The young actress is also known for her role on Nickelodeon's "Drake & Josh" as Josh's smart and sassy girlfriend, Mindy. She has had numerous memorable guest spots on ER, CSI, and One Tree Hill and can be next be seen this summer in National Lampoon's Endless Bummer and My Name is Jerry, starring Doug Jones.

In other words, Allison plays "Warehouse 13's" version of Velma from "Scooby Doo."

Hey, you may tell your friends you want Daphne, but secretly you have the hots for Velma. It's kinda like the whole Ginger and Marry Ann thing.

Right guys?

Guys?

Hey, the numbers don't lie.

Here is a quick look back at last year's list:

10. Natalie Martinez 9. Eriko Sato 8. Amanda Tapping 7. Emilie Ullerup 6. Harumi Nemoto 5. Olivia Munn 4. Yumiko Shaku 3. Anita Briem 2. Christine Nguyen 1. Haruka Ayase

What Are Celebrities Doing For Halloween? - Part 1

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Patricia Tallman / Suzi Lorraine / Mr. Lobo / Rachel Grubb / Shannon McDonough

The other day, last Friday to be precise, I was sitting at work wondering, "What do celebrities dress up as on Halloween?" I mean, honestly, they pretty much dress up in costumes on almost a daily basis in their line of work. You would think that when it came to Halloween, they may be kinda 'over' the whole idea of putting on yet another costume. This whole idea really intrigued me, so I decided to get in touch with all the famous types that I have crossed paths with here at Monster Island News to find out what they had planned for the holiday, and to see if, and what, they were going to wear as a costume.

Here are a few of the replies, and they came almost immediately after I sent them.

Patricia Tallman

Now if anyone would be kinda tired of putting on costumes it would be actress/stunt woman Patricia Tallman. She's played a Klingon, a Starfleet commander, the telepath, Lyta Alexander, on "Babylon 5", a possessed witch in "Army of Darkness" and more aliens and other creatures than you can shake a stick at.

"I am attending the premier of my film Dead Air in Las Vegas at the Palms, with Bill Moseley and Corbin Bernsen and producers... Should be fun! I'll be dressed in a Grecian gown."

Here is the synopsis for "Dead Air":

International terrorism meets old-fashioned horror head-on in Dead Air, when shock-jock deejay Logan Burnhardt (Bill Moseley) and his radio crew are trapped in a downtown tower as the city outside devolves into homicidal chaos.

Dead Air is director Corbin Bernsen's dark vision of America under the threat of catastrophic biological warfare - war in which there are no victors, only victims.

War in which morality disappears and only the lucky and the ruthless will survive.

If you want to party with Patricia, and watch her new film, check out "Fangoria: Trinity of Terrors" info - http://www.trinityofterrors.com/

Suzi Lorraine

From this picture, you would think that Suzi Lorraine (Won Ton Baby! , Destined to be Ingested) is going to be "Godzilla" for Halloween, but that, sadly, is not the case.

Suzi, like Patricia, will be working on Halloween, promoting several of her latest movies

"I have a hauntingly horrific Halloween celebration planned this year. I'm co-hosting the Gorezone Weekend of Horrors Film Festival in London on Oct 31st and Nov 1st with Emily Booth. http://www.gorezone.co.uk/ I am stoked!

It's going to be a wicked cool film festival, with 14 cutting edge horror flicks premiering. We just got word that a really major horror film will be screening, and a bunch of cast members will be in attendance too. I think they're going to make the official announcement soon and reveal the name of this movie. It is a re-make of a hugely successful horror film that totally creeped me out and scared me when I was little. Trust me, fans of classic 80s horror will not be disappointed!

My 'Won Ton Baby' will also make it's European premiere at the festival on Halloween, appropriately enough! Along with 'Destined to be Ingested' and 'Bikini Girls On Ice'."

This is how Lorraine describes her film, "Won Ton Baby":

"It's a story about a broken family who have good intentions are are trying to make an honest living and make ends meet. The mom, Madame Won Ton, played by Debbie (Rochon), turned her illustrious brothel into a proper Chinese restaurant. The whole family is oblivious to the fact that one of the daughters, Little Wing, has a bizarre growth protruding from her belly. While Little Wing is sweet and kind, her classmates mock the deformity, and hurl insults at her on a regular basis. Soon enough, the growth starts causing some trouble, and Little Wing is swept off to the emergency room. A half human/half monster "baby" is removed from her belly, and proceeds to live a very peculiar existence. The Chinese "baby", aptly named "Won Ton Baby!" proves to be a small killing machine, in the body of a midget sumo wrestler meets Elvis Presley impersonator. Much to the family's chagrin, Won Ton goes on a killing rampage in his eternal quest for blood and tasty meat."

Mr. Lobo

The one thing about being a horror host on Halloween is that you pretty much are limited to just being your on screen persona. What would Halloween be like if Casandra Peterson showed up dressed like "Snow White" or Erik Lobo (Cinema Insomnia) came to your event dressed like "Gumby"?

Let's face it, "Elvira" and "Mr. Lobo" are just as much a part of Halloween as pumpkins, rubber masks and flaming bags of poo.

"I'm shooting my Halloween Special..." (More on that to come)

Rachel Grubb

Ah, now when it comes to actress/model/producer Rachel Grubb (Strip Club Slasher, Haunting Kira), the rules for Halloween change dramatically. You see Rachel really doesn't need an excuse to walk around in a costume, she does that for fun anyway.

The real problem comes down to figuring out just which one of the many she owns to wear?

"I will be returning from Oklahoma, where I'll be filming the horror 'Bad Girls Burn in HELL!' I told them I wanted to come home in time for Halloween, so they made sure I could be! I don't know for sure what I'll be this year, but I have a large collection of costumes, and I'm always buying more. I just got a vampire costume this year already, but I want to get more before the big day! I'll probably be wearing some of my Batman stuff, like maybe my Catwoman costume, my Harley Quinn costume, or my Joker scars and nurse uniform."

Shannon McDonough

Actress Shannon McDonough (It Came from Another World!, Thieves Like Us) is very easy on the eyes, so it should come to the delight of her male fans that she will be spending Halloween in next to nothing!

" I will actually be performing on Halloween with my band, Ovation-A Salute to the Music of Prince (http://www.ovationmusicgroup.com/), in Madison, WI at Scatz Nightclub (www.myspace.com/badgermusictheater) so I won't be wearing much of anything. Should be crazy!"

I have a lot more e-mails out, and more are starting to come in, so 'part 2' of this article should be ready to go fairly soon!

Behind The Scenes Photos From Suzi Lorraine's Horror Comedy Won Ton Baby

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Suzi Lorraine / Morgue Art Films

I just wanted to write a quick update about Suzi Lorraine's horror comedy "Won Ton Baby." The production team wrapped principal photography on June 1st and are presently filming special effects shots with the half human/half monster "baby".

Both Lorraine and the film's star, Debbie Rochon have been doing the rounds promoting the film and IMDB has finally listed the film on their site. You can check that out here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1449395/

"Won Ton Baby" came from Lorraine's love of the 80s film "Basket Case" and also the medical condition known as "fetus infetu". The actress and director, James Morgart, both combined their talents to develop a comedic take on the medical condition where one twin ends up being a parasite to the other healthy twin while still in the whom. The parasitic twin is often nothing more than a pygmy looking half human/half monster with a patch of long hair when it is born.

If you are a fan of twisted humor then "Won Ton Baby" will be right up your alley. The film has it all, Chinese prostitutes, a demon baby, camp humor, blood and guts and "The King of Rock-N-Roll".....well ....sorta.

Oh, and don't let me forget to mention that the film also stars Gunnar Hansen who played Leatherface in "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre."

Here are some photos from the set:

Suzi Lorraine Is Destined To Be Ingested

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Sofian Khan

To read the title of this article you may be inclined to believe that I am making some sort of 'off-color' remark about my pal Suzi Lorraine. Granted, she is beautiful, and I'm sure most men would love to just 'eat her up', but that's not what this article is about......well not exactly. You see the lovely Miss Lorraine is starring in a new film, which, if you hadn't figured it out already, features a group of unsuspecting people who fall victim to a bunch of blood-thirsty cannibals.

The film is called (They Were...) "Destined to be Ingested", the work of film maker Sofian Khan and his company, Capitol K Pictures. Starring alongside Lorraine (Sandy) are Theodore Bouloukas (Chester), Kris Eivers (Tom), Manuel Fihman (Macho) and Kitty Cole (Anna).

The film centers around a young couple and their friends, who take a South Pacific cruise after they had struck it rich by winning the lottery. The group is blissfully enjoying their new found wealth, when things start to go wrong in a hurry. News of a stock market crash reaches the couple, whose new fortune may now be in jeopardy, and their inept yacht captain has gotten them lost.

The group soon finds themselves stranded on an uncharted island inhabited by a tribe of man-eaters. A cat-and-mouse game of terror begins once the group is discovered by the natives who want to consume their flesh.

Though, "Destined to be Ingested" is a low-budget horror, Kahn shows that he really has an eye for cinematography. From the trailer, it looks like the camera work on this one is top-notch. A far cry better than a lot of independent films, which look like they were shot in someones backyard with a camcorder. This one has the look of a film made on a much larger budget. Kahn looks as if she was able to get the most bang for his buck.

At present Sofian Khan is seeking distribution for "Destined to be Ingested", but I have a feeling that we will be seeing it very soon.

Here is the trailer and a bunch of photos for "Destined to be Ingested":

The First Look At Suzi Lorraine's Horror Comedy Won Ton Baby

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Suzi Lorraine

Horror movie goddess, Suzi Lorraine, will be very busy on both sides of the camera when she serves as assistant director and star of the upcoming horror comedy, "Won Ton Baby." A movie inspired by the 70s and 80s classics, "Rosemary's Baby", "It's Alive" and most importantly "Basket Case."

The idea for the film came directly from Lorraine who drew inspiration from the prior horror films and an interesting actual medical condition.

Lorraine explains, "It's a story idea I came up with that is based on my love of the 80s film "Basket Case" and also the medical condition known as "fetus infetu". It happens when twins are developing in utero , and one envelops the other. One of the eggs does not develop properly, and ends up being a parasite to the other healthy twin. The parasite, when removed, is often nothing more than a pygmy looking half human/half monster with a patch of long hair and juxtaposed "features", if any. I found this so fascinating that it inspired me."

The film's writer and director, James Morgart (Who also directed the short film "Legend of Suzi") took Lorraine's idea a ran with it, composing a story that would combine both the elements of horror and comedy.

The plot may sound rather gruesome, but Lorraine is quick to point out that the film is mostly a comedy.

I have to admit that the plot that Suzi has dreamt up doesn't sound all that funny, it actually sounds kinda tragic, but if she says its going to be a laugh riot, then I trust her.

As Suzi said the film is set to star femme fatal Debbie Rochon and also Gunnar Hansen who played Leatherface in "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre." Two proven horror icons which will add star power to Suzi's movie.

Filming is set to take place during May and June, with a release date to be announced later.

For more info check out the official website is http://www.wonton-baby.com/

Here are some of the numerous publicity photos Suzi sent me:

Dig the Elvis hair style on the scary kid! You would think that coming from Suzi's gene pool the kid would be a looker?

Hey most kids don't turn into monsters until they reach puberty. Won Ton Baby must be an early bloomer.

Famous People Talk About Star Wars

People in the entertainment industry share their memories of Star Wars with Robo Japan.
Compiled From Interviews By: Ken Hulsey

"Star Wars" was of course a cultural phenomenom that changed the world of filmmaking. I remember all the action figures when I was little, and I always thought they were pretty cool. I remember those and my brother's 'Kiss' action figures vividly. The first time I saw Star Wars was on VHS. I was completely blown away with the creativity, concept and characters! I thought the effects were amazing- particularly so for 1978! I loved R2D2 and C3PO. The Star Wars bar rocked, and I make references to it often. If I have to pick my favorite characters- it would have to be the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi- ugly, cute, and whimsical all at the same time. As a "true" Star Wars fan - I'm not as fond of the new 'prequels'...."

- Suzi Lorraine (Actress/Model/Writer)

"The summer of 1977, I was a rising senior in college. I had just signed on for a new job right after finals. I already had a job with UPS and I needed the extra bucks for the new Corvette I was going to buy that summer. That and a serious relationship with a college girlfriend were the two most important topics of the day. However, there was a rumor of an incredible movie due out at the end of May and there was a big buzz about it. Also, there was talk about a new space TV show that fall (Battlestar Galactica). I liked the thought of some space themes as opposed to a big shark eating everyone and the last thing that was "spacey" was Close Encounters but that movie seemed so goofy and distant. The idea of a space theme with the name "Wars" in the title stimulated my thoughts of what a fighter pilot of the future might be like."

"I was learning how to fly that summer as a part of my Air Force R.O.T.C. scholarship. I was due to be commissioned and go to pilot training in 1978 and was really into airplanes, spacecraft, and the likes. I built every flying model known to man as a young boy and still had aspirations of space travel as an astronaut. I had the Battle of Britain hanging from my ceiling despite my folk's concern for me destroying the structural integrity of the ceiling and the house. It is funny how your dreams as a kid can be so exciting but when the realization of them coming true becomes a possibility, new feelings emerge from your already heaving emotions."

"I was really excited about being a pilot and more excited about being a fighter pilot. The futuristic battle in space was looming just weeks ahead. I can remember that I made a special effort to be at the box office some 5 hours ahead of the first showing. My college roommate thought I was crazy when we pulled into the parking lot at about 2 P.M. We had done this numerous times to get good student tickets for college football games. In fact, we had camped out a few times overnight to get them but to go to a movie theater this early? His thought of how crazy I was quickly diminished when he saw that we were going to be somewhere in the middle of the line to see the movie. The hoopla was genuine; the people we were talking with in line were extremely excited."

"We first sprinted to get seats and then I went and got a tub of well lubed corn and Raisinettes. It was unseasonably hot that week of May and the a/c was feeling pretty good while we waited for the lights to dim. I realize that Industrial Light and Magic and the program Lightwave was the basis for all the special effects from Lucas in new films of the era but the miniatures and models of Star Wars were spectacular! As a Japanese Monster Movie veteran, I was thoroughly impressed with the effects of Star Wars as opposed to my experience in Destroy all Planets with piano wires and the "man-in-a-suit" efforts."

"I had not been in a movie theater where people cheered and screamed when a premier was over. I do recall my folks telling me when they went to see Cecil B. DeMille’s 10 Commandments, the people applauded as the curtain closed. Now I was really fired up about being a pilot and an astronaut. Not only was the flying great, the pilot got the good looking chick to kiss him. Ok, it was his sister but how were we supposed to figure George Lucas out that early?"

"Anyway, I rate that movie as one of the most moving movies of my life. It could not have been timed any better and now, 30 years later, I still can sit through the entire movie and feel the same way I did the very first time. Star Wars has a special place in my life and I celebrate the 30th anniversary with great enthusiasm. Long live the Jedi Knights and I am a firm believer in the "Force." It was with me for a long time and I hope it will stay with me for a long time to come."

-Carl Craig (Jim Morgan in Destroy All Planets/US Air Force/US Government)

"As a child of divorce in the 70's Star Wars was my mother and father. Star Wars was the Beatles of my generation and next to Creature Features the main inspiration that jumpstarted my career in fantasy."

-Mr. Lobo (Host of the nationally syndicated TV series Cinema Insomnia)

"Actually, my first brush with Star Wars is my first memory EVER. I was born in 1976. When I was a kid, my parents would take my brothers and I to the local drive-in almost every weekend. I don’t know if it was the summer of ’77 or a repeat showing in ’78 but my dad took my mom, older brother and I to see Star Wars at the drive-in. He’d already seen it a couple times so it was no big deal that he would miss part of the movie to go get some treats from concessions for my mom. I wanted to go with so he took me. I distinctly remember being walked by my dad to the concession stand and turning around to look at the screen. I saw Obi-Wan Kenobi’s flashing lightsaber as he fought Darth Vader. I remember being mesmerized by the color and movement and to this day, it is literally my earliest childhood memory. I grew up with Star Wars and to this day, I am a rabid fan. I own a collection of Star Wars memorabilia that is easily worth $50,000 (or more) and I have introduced my own kids to it. My love of Star Wars and its inspirational effect on my filmmaking is equaled only by my uber-geek love of Star Trek."

-Christopher Mihm (Writer & Director of The Monster of Phantom Lake)

"Star Wars changed my sex life forever. What better way to get the middle aged fan boys eating out of my hands then to don my Princess Leia slavegirl outfit! It never fails!!"

- Sara Dunn (The Queen of Trash) (Actress and Model)

I was a child when STAR WARS came out but I remember my parents taking me to the film and being mesmerized by the whole experience.

I remember loving the whole fairy tale aspect of the movie at the time- the princess being rescued etc.

But as I grew older, I learned to appreciate the multi layered movie that Lucas createdit is astounding!it was the first time, I became aware of the difference of good and evil in a movie.

- Ellen Dubin (Actress)

Seventeen at the time of its release, I was certain that Star Wars had come custom made for this sci-fi geek who had grown up on a steady diet of 50s and 60s sci-fi films and TV shows. But Star Wars' impact - great as it was - came not so much from the first screening but a week prior its release in the form of a small B/W photo run in the Arts and Leisure section of the Sunday New York Times. A somewhat blurry dot matrix picture, it showed two Storm Troopers with weapons extended. Nothing more. "Holy crap!" I thought as the design of both the outfits and the laser rifles announced that some cool cinematic times were brewing in the genre I loved most.

Being thirty years ago and seeing as I saw the film no less than ten times in the theater (topped only by EMPIRE, which I saw sixteen times in the theater) it is hard to weed out the memory of the very first screening. However, one memory that does stand out is a visit to the house of a girlfriend shortly after seeing STAR WARS for the first time. Gathered upon her dresser was the entire set of just-released Kenner Star Wars figures. My first time to see such a thing, I asked what "that" was all about. "I'm not sure," she replied, "but I like the way they look." And now thirty years later, it seems that so did the rest of us.
