Vegas Baby! | My Best Photos from The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace
Photos and Story By: Ken HulseyI have to share that I truly miss being just a three-hour drive from the incredible attractions of the Las Vegas Strip. There’s really nothing quite like it anywhere in the world! The beauty of the Strip is that you don’t even have to place a bet or catch a show to find entertainment. I remember spending an entire evening simply strolling along the Strip, taking in the breathtaking sights and observing the vibrant crowd. It was hours filled with joy and amusement, all without spending a single dollar!
Godzilla On Monster Island Video Slot Machine
Source: IGT
It seems that there is some sort of conspiracy going on to get me into a casino. Yes, a very definite conspiracy to get my big white parked in front of a slot machine. Sure I play the slots from time to time, who doesn't, but I'm no high roller and I can easily resist an urge to plunk my hard earned dough into a one-armed bandit.
That will power is starting to ebb however with the recent introduction of a slot machine that is classic Universal monster themed. I loved to play the old "Creature From The Black Lagoon" slot machine so I figured that I give the new game a shot. Anyway, I can resist "The Creature", "Wolfman" and "Frankenstein" when I want to ...... but can I resist "Godzilla"?
Probably not.
Yes, the "King of Monsters" has invaded the casino!
Here is the skinny from slot machine manufacturer IGT:
Launch into the explosive world of monsters and mayhem with Godzilla on Monster Island Video Slots. Packed with larger-than-life Godzilla characters, this MegaJackpots animal provides some exhilarating interactive features.
During the Godzilla vs. the Military Bonus, players control the path of Godzilla's atomic breath to military vehicles with the guidance of their hand.
Look for Mothra and Godzilla to enter the base game to reward random wilds and more. And in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, the legendary monsters battle in an epic Free Games match.
Innovative technology, frequent bonuses and an atomic progressive keeps players engaged and immersed in some mighty, monstrous entertainment.
"Godzilla on Monster Island Video Slots" contains animations of Godzilla, MechaGodzilla, Gigan and Mothra.
Damn these slot machine makers will make a gambler out of me yet!

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back In The Casino! Universal Monsters Invade MONSTER JACKPOTS
Source: WMS
I grabbed this little story off a press release about new slot machines that will be featured at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas next week.
Slot machine manufacturer WMS has just come out with a new game that will feature the classic Universal monsters Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolfman and The Creature From The Black Lagoon.
As many of you out there probably already know, I have spent many an hour in Vegas parked in front of the Creature From The Black Lagoon slot machine (photo left) dropping in my hard-earned money ....and loosing it. Regardless of my unlucky ways I always loved playing the game due to the wonderful graphics and animations. This new game promises more of the same so it would be safe to assume that when it comes out I will be dropping a twenty into it hoping that Lady Luck will finally smile on me.
Here is a brief description of Monster Jackpots from the press release:
Monster Jackpots: This new theme is the first game from WMS that features the classic Universal Studios Monsters(TM) such as Frankenstein, Dracula, Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Bride of Frankenstein in unique base games and bonus rounds. In the free spin bonus round, players select their own volatility level to try to capture Monsters and win a large jackpot. (initial approvals anticipated in the June 2012 quarter)
WMS also makes a kick-ass looking Star Trek slot machine called STAR TREK Battlestations. You can check that out HERE.
Rachel Grubb Does 'Why Am I In A Box?' Up Vegas Style
Rachel Grubb is a pin-up model that's been compared to Bettie Page. She's a Scream Queen with more than 30 films under her belt. She's also an award-winning producer, writer and director. And for one night on March 26 in Las Vegas, genre fans can get up close and personal with her for $5 as PollyGrind.com presents a grindhouse event honoring Grubb.
The event at the Sci-Fi Center will kickoff at 8 p.m. with a batch of trailers, followed by the Las Vegas premiere of the Minnesotan beauty's award-winning directorial debut Why Am I In A Box?. There will also possibly be other footage shown, such as sneak preview clips of upcoming projects.
Grubb, along with actress and model Lisa Pechmiller, will be on hand after the cinema fun for a Q&A, meet and greet and autograph session. There will also be collectables such as poker chips, trading Terror Cards, as well as DVDs and photos for sale at the event.
"This should be a lot of fun," said Grubb, co-founder of the female film company Silent-But-Deadly Productions. "I always have fun in Sin City and I'm hoping my return this year will be my best time there ever."
PollyGrind creator Chad Clinton Freeman describes Why Am I In A Box? as "an edgy arthouse comedy."" He adds that Grubb is "one of the busiest people in the film game" and calls her "one of genre's biggest and brightest up and coming stars."
Synopsis:
Ellen Farnsby is a modern-day Scheherazade. And if she doesn't tell the story of a lifetime, someone else will be writing her obituary. She is kidnapped by Paige, a failed novelist with an ax to grind. Jeremy is a video store clerk whose one talent is fooling himself, and others, that he's an artist. He and a pop junkie of a detective named Lydecker are hunting for Ellen. Will Jeremy and Lydecker find Ellen before a vicious maniac edits her out of existence? Will Ellen write a brilliant novel or end up a tragic movie-of-the-week?
"She is so talented," Freeman said. "She's only been around a few short years and has accomplished a lot already, but I think we can expect bigger and better from her in the future."
Grubb has been featured in the indie horror films Terror Overload, Tales of the Dead, 13 Hours in a Warehouse, Bad Girls Burn in Hell, Strip Club Slasher, Camp Kill and Cave Women on Mars, to name a few. In 2009 alone, she appeared in 13 different projects. Just this week Why Am I In A Box? won six Creative Spirit Awards, including golds for low budget feature, original comedy, originality and film feature. Not bad for somebody who a very short time ago considered herself "just a writer."
Shortly after graduating with an English degree from the College of St. Catherine, Grubb won the Best Breakthrough Screenplay award at the New York International Independent Film And Video Festival with her first feature script.
"I remember being at a screening at the film festival," Grubb told PollyStaffle.com in 2008. "This guy next to me asked if I was an actress, and I wished then that I could have said yes. I still never thought I could be an actress, but a few years later, I started taking acting classes. Once I was confident enough, I started auditioning for local films, and everything just took off from there."
Freeman says the "Evening with Rachel Grubb" will be the first in a series of events at the Sci-Fi Center under the "PollyGrind Presents" banner. PollyGrind, short for the Polly Staffle Grindhouse Film Festival, is a four-day event that will take place in May.
Located at the northwest corner of the Commercial Center (right off Sahara on 2520 State State, Las Vegas, NV 89109), the Sci-Fi Center is a comic book and film geek's paradise. Owned by William Powell, the store houses a true grindhouse movie theater dubbed The Underground Screening Room that seats 50 and showcases arthouse, horror, cult, science fiction, fantasy and independent cinema not usually available at traditional theaters in Vegas.
To RSVP for the event, please do so on Facebook or MeetUp.

What Are Celebrities Doing For Halloween? - Part 1
Sources: Patricia Tallman / Suzi Lorraine / Mr. Lobo / Rachel Grubb / Shannon McDonough
The other day, last Friday to be precise, I was sitting at work wondering, "What do celebrities dress up as on Halloween?" I mean, honestly, they pretty much dress up in costumes on almost a daily basis in their line of work. You would think that when it came to Halloween, they may be kinda 'over' the whole idea of putting on yet another costume. This whole idea really intrigued me, so I decided to get in touch with all the famous types that I have crossed paths with here at Monster Island News to find out what they had planned for the holiday, and to see if, and what, they were going to wear as a costume.
Here are a few of the replies, and they came almost immediately after I sent them.
Patricia Tallman
Now if anyone would be kinda tired of putting on costumes it would be actress/stunt woman Patricia Tallman. She's played a Klingon, a Starfleet commander, the telepath, Lyta Alexander, on "Babylon 5", a possessed witch in "Army of Darkness" and more aliens and other creatures than you can shake a stick at.
"I am attending the premier of my film Dead Air in Las Vegas at the Palms, with Bill Moseley and Corbin Bernsen and producers... Should be fun! I'll be dressed in a Grecian gown."
Here is the synopsis for "Dead Air":
International terrorism meets old-fashioned horror head-on in Dead Air, when shock-jock deejay Logan Burnhardt (Bill Moseley) and his radio crew are trapped in a downtown tower as the city outside devolves into homicidal chaos.
Dead Air is director Corbin Bernsen's dark vision of America under the threat of catastrophic biological warfare - war in which there are no victors, only victims.
War in which morality disappears and only the lucky and the ruthless will survive.
If you want to party with Patricia, and watch her new film, check out "Fangoria: Trinity of Terrors" info - http://www.trinityofterrors.com/
Suzi Lorraine From this picture, you would think that Suzi Lorraine (Won Ton Baby! , Destined to be Ingested) is going to be "Godzilla" for Halloween, but that, sadly, is not the case.
Suzi, like Patricia, will be working on Halloween, promoting several of her latest movies "I have a hauntingly horrific Halloween celebration planned this year. I'm co-hosting the Gorezone Weekend of Horrors Film Festival in London on Oct 31st and Nov 1st with Emily Booth. http://www.gorezone.co.uk/ I am stoked!
It's going to be a wicked cool film festival, with 14 cutting edge horror flicks premiering. We just got word that a really major horror film will be screening, and a bunch of cast members will be in attendance too. I think they're going to make the official announcement soon and reveal the name of this movie. It is a re-make of a hugely successful horror film that totally creeped me out and scared me when I was little. Trust me, fans of classic 80s horror will not be disappointed!
My 'Won Ton Baby' will also make it's European premiere at the festival on Halloween, appropriately enough! Along with 'Destined to be Ingested' and 'Bikini Girls On Ice'."
This is how Lorraine describes her film, "Won Ton Baby":
"It's a story about a broken family who have good intentions are are trying to make an honest living and make ends meet. The mom, Madame Won Ton, played by Debbie (Rochon), turned her illustrious brothel into a proper Chinese restaurant. The whole family is oblivious to the fact that one of the daughters, Little Wing, has a bizarre growth protruding from her belly. While Little Wing is sweet and kind, her classmates mock the deformity, and hurl insults at her on a regular basis. Soon enough, the growth starts causing some trouble, and Little Wing is swept off to the emergency room. A half human/half monster "baby" is removed from her belly, and proceeds to live a very peculiar existence. The Chinese "baby", aptly named "Won Ton Baby!" proves to be a small killing machine, in the body of a midget sumo wrestler meets Elvis Presley impersonator. Much to the family's chagrin, Won Ton goes on a killing rampage in his eternal quest for blood and tasty meat."
Mr. Lobo The one thing about being a horror host on Halloween is that you pretty much are limited to just being your on screen persona. What would Halloween be like if Casandra Peterson showed up dressed like "Snow White" or Erik Lobo (Cinema Insomnia) came to your event dressed like "Gumby"?
Let's face it, "Elvira" and "Mr. Lobo" are just as much a part of Halloween as pumpkins, rubber masks and flaming bags of poo."I'm shooting my Halloween Special..." (More on that to come)
Rachel Grubb
Ah, now when it comes to actress/model/producer Rachel Grubb (Strip Club Slasher, Haunting Kira), the rules for Halloween change dramatically. You see Rachel really doesn't need an excuse to walk around in a costume, she does that for fun anyway.
The real problem comes down to figuring out just which one of the many she owns to wear?
"I will be returning from Oklahoma, where I'll be filming the horror 'Bad Girls Burn in HELL!' I told them I wanted to come home in time for Halloween, so they made sure I could be! I don't know for sure what I'll be this year, but I have a large collection of costumes, and I'm always buying more. I just got a vampire costume this year already, but I want to get more before the big day! I'll probably be wearing some of my Batman stuff, like maybe my Catwoman costume, my Harley Quinn costume, or my Joker scars and nurse uniform."
Shannon McDonough
I have a lot more e-mails out, and more are starting to come in, so 'part 2' of this article should be ready to go fairly soon!
Jason Vorhees And Some Top Line Screem Queens Sign On For 'Haunting Kira'
The first actor to play the iconic madman of the highest grossing horror franchise of all time, the better half of the "Re-Animator" and a duo of upcoming Scream Queens have been added to the cast of Teresa Fahs' zombie project "Haunting Kira."
It was announced in July that Rachel Grubb, star of the indie horror films "Tales of the Dead," "13 Hours in a Warehouse," "Strip Club Slasher," "Camp Kill" and "Cave Women on Mars," will play the film's lead character, a ghost that has reanimated a rotting corpse. Now not only have fellow Scream Queens Monique Dupree and Donna Hamblin joined the cast, but so has Ari Lehman, best known as Jason Vorhees of "Friday the 13th" and Katheen Kinmont of "Bride of Re-Animator."
Lehman portrayed young Jason rising from the dark waters of Crystal Lake at the end of Sean Cunningham's 1980 classic. The actor since went on to become a musician and currently fronts the metal band First Jason. In 2006, Lehman got back into acting and has since appeared in five indie horror films.
"I got a chance to work with Ari on 'Terror Overload,'" Grubb said. "He was a blast to work with, and quite hilarious as Ray Rae in the 'Mongo Chupa' segment. I knew he would be great."
"Haunting Kira" producer Chad Clinton Freeman (Regan Redding's "Killer Biker Chicks," Shane Ryan's "Amateur Porn Star Killer 3D," "Super Undead Doctor Roach") said Lehman will be playing the role of a cab driver when "Haunting Kira" shoots in Las Vegas in early 2010.
Among the talent the duo is excited about are their Scream Queens. So far they have nabbed Katheen Kinmont, who was also Kelly Meeker in "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers," and three of horror's up and coming beauties. Monique Dupree, Donna Hamblin and Rachel Grubb are all featured in David Byron's latest book “Queens of Scream: The New Blood.”
Dupree, who has starred in close to 30 films, is often referred to as the First Black Scream Queen. Recently she appeared in "Skeleton Key 2: 667 Neighbor of the Beast," "Plan 9," "Satan Hates You" and "Bachelor Party in the Bungalow of the Damned."
Hamblin has become a regular in the recent works of Ted V. Mikels ("Astro-Zombies M3: Cloned," "Demon Haunt ," "Cauldron: Baptism of Blood") and can also be seen in the grindhouse throwbacks "Killer Biker Chicks" and "At the House of Madness."
"I am excited to be added to what already is shaping up to be a great cast," Hamblin said. "I'm looking forward to working with Rachel and Monique, and I can't wait to see who Chad and Teresa announce next."
Other talent already nabbed for the film includes Ted LeBlang ("Dirty Martini"), Derek Houck ("Absent"), Kim Sønderholm ("The Horror Vault," "Craig"), Leo Limauco ("Devotion"), Reagan Pfifer ("Black Sunday"), Erik A. Williams (Eric Stanze's "Ratline," "The Heart: Final Pulse"), Joe Hammerstone ("Monsterpiece Theatre Volume 1," Kevin Strange's "CockHammer") and newcomers Daniel Nagelhout and Alexis Borghi.
"This is a sort of who's who in independent horror," Freeman said, pointing out the film will be Michael Su. It will be the third zombie film for the director of photography. Su previously shot and directed "The Revolting Dead" and "Doomed." He also directed, the yet to be distributed, gem "My Demon Within."
Fahs, dubbed the Goddess of Gore, has described "Haunting Kira" as a strange trip that is like "Being John Malkovich" meets "The Shining" meets "Night of the Living Dead." Erik A. Williams, also an associate producer on the film, has said he feels it's "a thrilling take on horror and a genuinely great ghost story."
Already the film has been offered distribution and is getting quite a bit of buzz online. Former "Lifestyles Of The Rich and Famous" host Robin Leach has blogged about it and genre site ArrowintheHead.com has said the film has "major potential."

Haunting Kira Gives Horror Movie Actress Something To Scream About
Rachel Grubb looks forward to new female-directed zombie project being shot in Las Vegas
Scream Queen Rachel Grubb has nabbed the lead role in the upcoming Teresa Fahs' film "Haunting Kira," which will shoot in Las Vegas in early 2010. The official announcement was made the day after Comic Con International in San Diego wrapped.
Grubb, the star of the indie horror films "Terror Overload," "Tales of the Dead," "13 Hours in a Warehouse," "Strip Club Slasher," "Camp Kill" and "Cave Women on Mars," said she can't wait to get started on the project.
"I love the script," Grubb said. "It's funny and original with lots of gorey goodness."
With close to 30 projects under her belt already and being a fan of the works of David Cronenberg, Dario Argento and Debbie Rochon, Grubb knows a thing or two about horror films. So fans can trust her when she says "Haunting Kira" is unlike any other zombie feature.
Fahs, a special FX makeup artist for the past decade, has said the script was partly inspired by the works of Stanley Kubrick, Wes Craven and George Romero. Grubb said, she can definitely see that.
"The gore is oozing from every page, and it keeps getting weirder," Grubb said. "The whole time I was reading it, I was imagining the awesome FX work (Fahs) could do on it."
Fahs is the CEO of Gorify.com, a one-stop special effects make-up resource for the do-it-yourself zombie. She has written and is currently seeking funds for "Haunting Kira," which she plans to direct in January and release theatrically on Mother's Day.
Grubb, who is in David Byron's latest book "Queens of Scream: The New Blood" along side Brenna Lee Roth ("Killer Biker Chicks"), Bianca Barnett ("Albino Farm"), Nikki Homicide K ("Zen: Hunter"), Seregon O’Dassey ("Ghost Watcher 2"), April Monique Burril ("Chainsaw Sally") and Monique Dupree ("Bachelor Party in the Bungalow of the Damned"), will be co-producing the film through one of her two production companies in association with Fahs' Gorified Films and Chad Clinton Freeman's Polly Staffle Films.
Fahs is ecstatic to have Grubb on board her directorial debut, which she says will be not only bloody, but also sexy.
"I had the pleasure of working with Rachel on a short project a few months ago, and I'm thrilled to have such a talented horror actress as my lead," Fahs said.
Fahs, dubbed the Godess of Gore by her fans, has described her film as a ghost story, a zombie film, a gorefest, and a strange trip that is like "Being John Malkovich" meets "The Shining" meets "Night of the Living Dead."
She has also promised the film will be filled with paranormal activity, re-animated and decaying corpses, painfully realistic gore, frenzied and meaningful kills, thought-provoking nudity and an ending that she hopes will make audiences want to see it all again and again.
Already the film has been offered distribution and is getting quite a bit of buzz online, including genre site ArrowintheHead.com, which has said the film has "major potential."

Rachel Grubb Takes Mihm's Monsters With Her To Vegas
Source: Saint Euphoria
Horror and fantasy movie starlet and pin-up queen, Rachel Grubb, will be taking two of Christopher R Mihm's retro monster films with her when she visits Xanadu Las Vegas convention this April.
Grubb, who starred in both "The Monster of Phantom Lake" and "Cave Women on Mars" will be on hand at the convention to sign autographs and great her adoring public.
Honestly I think Grubb truly stole the show as Hagra (Lead Huntress of the Liak tribe) in "Cave Women on Mars." Those who haven't seen it, really should give it a look. It is a great indie film and Grubb looks like a real up-and-comer in it.
Well enough of my praises for Rachel Grubb, here is the skinny from Saint Euphoria:
Both films will screen Saturday, April 18th as an afternoon double-feature at the Xanadu Las Vegas convention, an event dedicated to the wonderful worlds of Science Fiction, Fantasy, imaginative art and influence on technology. From rockets-to-the-moon to your garage band podcast, traditional art to CGI and digital graphics, movie magic, independent films to imaginative literature old and new! Notable guests include author Robert J. Sawyer, Academy Award winning special effects technician Joe Viskocil, actress Chase Masterson of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fame and many others. This is the first time either film has screened in Nevada.
Honestly it looks like the convention is shaping up to be a real good one. Fans can find out more info - HERE
