2017-07-15, Summer Holidays 2017: Lundeborg Iron Age Fair

As mentione earlier, we visited the Iron Age Fair in Lundeborg some days after returning from sweden. I did not take as many photos as I usually do at this kind of events, but here is a few views of the site.

My First Pile of Shit

I started making a dung heap for Dark Ages/Medieval/Fantasy settlements today.

Basically, until now it is a CD, some Renedra plastic wattle fences, some styrofoam, a foam scourer, used tea leaves from tea bags, and lots of PVA.

I think I need to add some filler and gravel and maybe some bristles from an old brush or something, to get more coarse structure, before adding even more tea leaves of different kinds...

Any suggestions are welcome!

Anna and I started building a large longhouse today. I let Anna decide on the type and size, so this is probably going to be the Chieftain's/Hersír's longhouse, while I am going to make some smaller ones of the type with the door in the gable wall.

We are using this drawing as pattern for the house, and in restrospect it would have been easier to use the simpler designs for our first building, but Anna is always very ambitious when it comes to any kind of creative activity.

Lundeborg Iron Age/Viking Market 2015

The weekend after our return from the Vacation in Italy and Switzerland, the girls and I went to the annual Iron Age market in Lundeborg - of course all dressed up in our Viking/Medieval gear.

Again this year, the market was visited by a Roman maniple,, and some gladiators.

'You call that a bow...?'

If there is archery to be tried...

Some Gladiator action:

Legionaire drill (it was raining, and the Romans don't like their equipment rusting):

That is what I have from last year's market. I think we are in Spain at the time of this year's market, but we shall have to see about that...

Næsby Iron Age/Viking Market 2016

Sunday the kids and I went to the annual Iron Age market in Jernalderlandsbyen (The Iron Age Village) in Næsby, Odense.

It was a bright, hot, sunny day, so the conditions were perfect for spending an afternoon shopping for bits and bobs for our Viking/Medieval outfits.

Sadly, my camera's SD card ran out of space (and I did not bring any spares), so I do not have a lot of pictures to share.

Anyeay, here they are:

First impression

Iron Age Germannic warriors

Not as many traders as usual...

Anna and Lea spotted some horses.

The mandatory Viking fight. Lots of shield maidens this year!

The leader of the opposing party.
I wonder, if he slew an Uruk-Hai?

The opposition.

Showdown!

These guys are not gentle with each other!
We spent a couple of hours at the market, got some food and drinks, and then drove back to Kværndrup, as I had to prepare supper (and Anna had forgotten to spply sunblock before leaving home, so it felt prudent to limit her time in the sun).
