Some More WIP Stuff...

I am rebasing some minis I painted a very long time ago (hence the dubious paintjobs on some of them) for various purposes, as I now want to use them for Sellswords & Spellslingers.

The Heresy Vampire below has lived a haunted life - first he lost his head, and then, recently he had a metal bear fall on him, damaging the paint on his left sleeve, so in addition to finishing his new base I have to reconstruct the paintjob...

This bunch is waiting for a black undercoat, but I am not going spray them, until I have finished painting that blasted female Barbarian for Lea's Sellswords & Spellslingers party!

With my current mojo and speed, I shall probably not paint more than one or two minis before 2019 - unless I focus on models I can speed-paint with block'n'wash or drybrushes. December is a bitch to get through when working every second weekend, and still having kids around, methinks...

Star Wars: Latest Toy Acquired

When we were browsing a shopping mall in Odense to find some presents for Anna's birthday tomorrow, I stumbled on this discounted RotJ Luke Skywalker figure. At about €7/£6/$8, I could not resist getting it for displaying in the study/office/hobby room.

I was not sure whether or not to use flash, so I took a photo both with and without it.

It is about 45 cm high.

And, yes, there is a lightsaber, I have not unpacked it, yet.

Operation Cleansweep: Moria Hobbits on the Run

Did the finishing touches on the bases earlier today. They are going to be primed as part of the next batch getting a black undercoat - I am just not sure when that is happening...

Operation Cleansweep: More Moria Hobbits WIP

When this handsome bunch is done and primed, I have the entire Moria plastic Fellowship ready to paint - and I think I should get on with it somewhen soonish, as I can also use them for Sellswords & Spellslingers, my current go-to game for some Fantasy Adventuring. The Hobbits should be ready for primer somewhen tomorrow, but as Monday is my brewing day, and we are going to Odense to buy birthday presents for Anna (turning 15 on Tuesday) that is probably all I am going to manage on the gaming front (but we shall have to see about that).

Operation Cleansweep: Hobbits WIP

The Hobbits from the LotR Moria boxed set have been sitting on my prepping station for ages, and as part of my efforts to clear the workspace of minis, the turn has now come to them.

Cleaned up and glued on 18mm washers for now, when I get the other two this far, I shall finish the basing.

Funny, they are depicted throwing rocks - as far as I remember, the only time we see them do that in the movies is at the breaking of the Fellowship, just before they are captured by the Orcs of the White Hand...

LotR: Orc Repaired and Rebased

During out last outing of Sellswords & Spellslingers, I found that this Orc's pick was broken just above the hand holding it, so I took the unfortunate Monster aside to do something about it at a later time.

First, I applied some plastic glue to the gap between the handle and the hand, and then gently pushed the pick into the right position.

Then I decided that I might as well get him a new base right away, and that did not take long.

When the filler had settled, I glued sand to the base for texture.

Then it got painted, drybrushed, and flocked, and the Orc is now once more ready to battle our intrepid adventurers.

SS&SS: The Tantalizing Trio

While rummaging through some boxes in search of some Advanced HeroQuest plastic henchmen I assembled quite some time ago, I stumbled on this old bunch of Merry men.

I think they will make an excellent SS&SS party, so I took them out to continue working on them (who knows, maybe I shall even get them painted this time - I first bought them to use as coaching staff for my Oakhill Rangers Blood Bowl team, but as with so many other projects, my Advanced Butterfly Syndrome did not allow me to finish them).

SS&SS: More Characters Ready for Painting

Three different minis, three different manufacturers, all possible contestants for a position in a warband for Anna, should she decide to play with Lea and me (and, perhaps, Ulolkish).

The Hedge Witch is from Red Box, Ladgerda from Hasslefree, and the War Dog is from North Star's very useful Frostgrave range (I don't play Frostgrave, but the minis are great for many purposes!).

They are going into the 'primed' box for storage, until it is time to paint one or more of them, as I have plenty of pending projects at the moment.

Christmas Wars: The Mystery Machine

I did not get around to painting a mini for the Chrismas Wars project in January (although my skeletons and Vikings can probably be used for it), but I accidentally got myself a Mystery Machine for the Scooby gang!

I got it in exchange for making a donation to a charity of my own choice, and I made one to Danmarksindsamlingen Saturday evening, this year aimed at helping starving/malnutritioned children in third world countries.

As you can see, it will require some filler, and I shall have to cut a piece of clear acrylic for the windshield.

I may opt to use this for the post-apocalyptic version, adding some wire mesh to the windows, and perhaps some additional defensive bits and bobs,

Christmas Wars: Basing The Scooby Gang

With my God of Battles two-units-in-one-go sub-project almost finished, it is time to get the monthly mini for my Christmas Wars project ready for the pain(t) station.

I think I am going to paint Fred up, first, and I thought I might just as well get some filler on the bases of the rest of the gang right away.

As soon as these are off the prepping station, I shall start getting the last Perry French finished for the first Dol Amroth Men-at-Arms proxy unit, so that I can get the bases filled, and get those 16 models of the prepping station, too (it is rather crowded at the moment).

And, of course, there is the jungle terrain I want to build - I have to find all my plastic palm trees and other jungle-worthy plastic vegetation... Well, I think I shall do that one or two bases at a time, not bury myself in half-finished terrain bases.

Chrismas Wars: Scooby and the Gang WIP

I have been cleaning up and basing Scooby and the meddling teenagers, as I think they are just the kind of material that will go well with my Christmas Wars project (as well as for other, just as cheerful settings 😉 )

I am not gong to paint any of these, until I have finished the two Skeleton Horde units I am now building for God of Battles, but it never hurts to have some nice minis ready for the paint station!

Christmas Wars: Santa's Assistant - With Snow, but Without Lipstick!

Time ran out for me on this, so I did not quite get it to the point I wanted to.

Julia was late this morning (if you know my language, you will get her name), so she forgot to put her lipstick on, and I think she grabbed the wrong pair of silk stockings, as thes eare light grey instead of white or red (or even green).

I like the way her hair turned out, it was:

1. Citadel Desert Yellow
2. Coat d'Arms Buff
3. Army Painter Skeleton Bone

I thin I could have gotten away with another highlight - shall experiment on my next blond mini!

All in all. I like how she turned out, and she is now joining Santa in our winter/Christmas scene on the sideboard, of which I promise to post a photo either later today or tomorrow. No snow landscape though - I think I shall make a mat out of painter felt, then upgrade it with some Woodland Scenics snow later this winter!

Christmas Wars: Santa - Now With Snow!

I have now poked the Snow-Tex around on Santa's base, and I think the finish is OK,

It is not quite the effect I was looking for (I wanted sparkling 'postcard' snow), but I may be able to achieve an enhanced result by drybrushing some clear varnish over the Snow-Tex.

I do have a feeling, that I could create a similar compound myself - the Snow-Tex feels and looks very much like 'gloop', which is a mix of paint, sand, and PVA glue (the Snow-Tex even could be only white paint and sand), and if I keep using this stuff for winter bases, I think I should experiment with beach sand and white emulsion paint.

I have all but finished Santa's assistant, and I hope to be able to post pics of her tomorrow morning (before I start bringing in The Tree), and of the small Christmas Village Scene we have on our sideboard.

White Knight Miniature Imperium: The Daughters of Graf Weisz von Schnee (Christmas Wars)

I got these in the mail yesterday, and am going to get them prepped and primed for painting over the holidays, because, if these are not suited for the Christmas Wars, I do not know many minis that are... 👸

I have also got the two Winter Sorceresses from North Star, and I am going to dig them out and get them prepped and primed, very soon, Do you feel a song coming up...? 😉

Let it Snow...

A nice bloke at the LAF, going by the nick 'Hu Rhu', was so kind to send me this tub of scenic snow, so I can decorate Santa's base (and other, season-themed models) in an appropriate manner.

Gestures like this make me all warm and fluffy inside, and I raise a horn of mead in salute to this fine Gentleman!

I am going to make a test one of the next days, and then get some show on the base, just in time for Christmas, and maybe also on the base of Santa's Assistant - if I get her done in time, that is.

Chrismas Wars: Spending Another Day Off

The holidays are almost upon us, and I am on sick leave, so I have to take well care of myself, while the wife is at work, and my daughters are in school.

And, how better to spend the solitary daytime just before Christmas than to get some paint slapped on another seasonal themed mini?

I have been spending some time with Santa's Lovely Assistant, and I hope to finish her off a couple of days before Christmas, so she can join Santa in the small Christmas scene on our sideboard.

I took the pics before I started painting today, I have since then more or less finished the white, although I am not quite content with the result (I may go back and touch it up, after I finish the rest of the mini).

I have also spent some time preparing for this evenings God of Battles appointment with Kevin, and I am going to field my Lords of Undeath, after all - I am keen to see how it fares at 36 points, and as our appointment on December 3rd had to be canceled, they have not been used since before Horisont VIII.

Christmas Wars: Santa Claus, Peaceful Edition

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have been working on some seasonal miniatures - and earlier today, I finished Santa.

I am going to add some scenic snow to the base, as soon as I get my hands on some. I intentionally made the base somewhat darker (hopefully looking a bit more 'wet') than my standard bases, by adding a wash of Agrax Earthshade. Most of the soil will be covered in scenic snow, though, which is also the reason why I did not add any flock.

I could have posted this earlier today, but Microsoft had updated my Windows, and the PC used most of the day for booting up 😠😠😠😠😠

Well, I spent most of the afternoon moving firewood, as the husband of a former colleague, from which I buy my firewood, had offered to bring a log splitter and help me split the rather large quantity of wood I had gathered in front of the shed, from various trees felled by the wind and/or myself in the back yard over the last couple of years - but now I have time to make a couple of updates.









Most of the colours are pretty straightforward, but I would like to note the following:

Christmas Wars: Tintin and Terry WIP

I am now officially embarking on a new long-term project that I hope to have something playable ready for next December.

As mentioned in a previous post, I am painting some Christmas minis at the moment - and originally they were only intended for decoration purposes, but of course my intricate mind set about finding alternative uses.

And now I have settled on 'Christmas Wars', as a catch-all project for which I can paint whatever I fancy for fighting the good fight to save the holidays, or the sinister powers trying to ruin it.

And whom better to recruit for the forces of good that the eternal boy-scout, indomitable detective, and intrepid explorer, Tintin, and his trusty companion, Terry?

I have had this particular pack of Copplestone minis for quite a while, and this seemed like as good ans any occasion for digging it out, and get some paint slapped on this dynamic duo.

The plan is to paint one dedicated mini for this project each month, and then somehow shoehorn in a lot of the other stuff I paint (and have painted) for some games with the kids and my regular gaming buddies, come December and the holidays.

It will be 'One Game to Rule Them All', as it is 'everything goes as long as it is fun'.

I hope to add some themed minis to the collection (I have my eyes on the 'Storybook Wars' range from Victrory Force, but I need an economically viable way to get them), but my main goal is to 'activate' some of the minis I have painted for LAF Painting Clubs without any specific game in mind, and to get some of my extensive unpainted collection painted up and game with.

Attack of the Snow Goons

With my North Star order arriving earlier today, I also got these shady characters. I have no idea what I am going to use them for, just now, but I expect to paint them up during this winter, one at a time, in between painting other stuff (and then I might think of game involving a plot to destroy Christmas and Santa fighting the good fight to save the holidays - we shall have to see about that).

This is not all, though. I may post the rest of the stuff I got later this evening, if I can find the time and energy for it. Right now I am going back to the prepping station to continue cleaning up St Nick and Assistant (I hope to get filler on their bases later today, and be able to prime them tomorrow).
