Horisont VII 2015 - Day 2 (Saturday)

Saturday morning I was feeling a bit groggy after have slept very badly (I think I had a slight fever).

But upon getting out of the sleeping bag, and down from the self-inflating air mattress, I set about inspecting the state of the war room.

A huge Black Powder Napoleonics table was being prepared. Janner of the LAF had a major share in it.

Then i got caught up in a game of 'It Is Warm Work' against our German friend Vikotnik (of LAF fame). I commanded the French and gave the British a good beating.

The ships are scratch-built out of carboard, barbeque-sticks, etc., by Claus, the host of the game.

It Is Warm Work is fast-paced, and fun, and still retains a lot of realism in the way ships manouever and fight, and I heartily recommend it!

After ruling the waves, I returned to find the Black Powder game well underways. I still think, though, that it suffers a bit from the same 'long game time - little actual action' syndrome that always put me off Warhammer and W40K - but every man his cake, as they say.

I think this table was some kind of Oldhammer-scenario.

Another Lion Rampant game. Medieval this time.

Vintage W40K (?) by Jonas

Pulp Alley (I think) retro sci-fi game by Dr. The Viking

Vikotnik's spectacular bar brawl game

And, finally, a table for some kind of Post Apocalyptic, Road warrior, Mad Max sort of thing, presented by Jens from Pardulon.

Horisont VII 2015 - Day 1 (Friday)

I did not take as many photos at the Horisont convention last year as I usually do, as I had a really bad cold, and was not feeling all that well.

On the first evening, I played in a two-sides four-player game of Lion Rampant, Saxon defenders versus Viking raiders. I played one of the Viking parties, another guy whose nick I don't remember the other.

My units are the closest ones. My allies are among the trees to the right.

Everything went my way, until I tried to kill off one of the Saxon leaders, which resulted in my alter ego's untimely demise (my ally's avatar had been killed previously), and we agreed to have lost the game (although we had killed off most of the defenders).

Forgive Me, Friends...

...it has been far too long since my last conf.. er... update.

I have been in a hobby hiatus ever since stowing my stuff away for Christmas, but during Eastern, I got inspired to dive back into my piles of unpainted and unassembled plastic.

I started reading A Game of Thrones, and the short description of a tournament thererin brought my thoughts back on, how to depict jousting by using minis and dice. I wrote up the draft of a set of rules, and then needed to get som playtesting going.

Thus, I have assembled a couple of Fireforge Templar Knights to paint up as some late 12th Cty knights.

The plan (right now) is to assemble another 6 knights, and then get them painted.

As always, I have multiple purposes for these:

  1. With 8 knights, I can test the Chivalry jousting rules in a small tournament with an even number of participants.
  2. 8 knights give me 2 points of 'Hearthguard' for a SAGA Crescent and Cross crusader warband.
  3. 6 knights give me a unit for Lion/Dragon Rampant.
  4. Finally, one of the knights will serve as my Character for Chivalry, when I get the rest of the rules fleshed out.
So, I may well go back to updating the blog on a more regular basis - I have 1½ week off work, now, so I expect to get some stuff done.

Here's another pic of my first two knights, from a slightly different angle.

As you can see, I need to build up the bases, and I also have to do some cleaning up of greenstuff fillings, but right now I just want to get some more knights assembled, and the I can do the final fiddling about just before priming the minis.

Well, that should be all for now.

I hope to be able to show some more progress tomorrow, but don't hold your breath, as I have some over-due tasks in and around the house to tend to...

Last West Wind Brotherhood Minis - For Now...

I got the last 2 Brotherhood minis cleaned up and  glued onto 20mm steel washers today.

I am going to clean up the 8 Killer Scarecrows I have, too, before adding filler to the bases on all 21 models (13 Brotherhood and 8 Scarecrows). As soon as I have finished cleaning up the Scarecrows, I am going to order some minis from Crooked Dice, as they have a deal of 4 'Corn Dolls' that will bring up my Scarecrows to a total of 12 - the number probably needed for using them as a unit in Dragon Rampant, and, if adding some command models, enough for a God of Battles unit, too.

In addition, they have a couple of NOT Doctor Who minis I want to add to my collection, and with Warlord Games bringing out their new licensed Doctor Who Miniatures Game, I'd better get them before they are being C&D'd.

West Wind Brotherhood Minis.

Hobby-wise, I have been cleaning up mot of my recently acquired West wind Brotherhood models.

I have a couple to do, before I break out the 2 packs of Scarecrows I bought on the same occation.

Originally, I intended to use the models for Frostgrave, but I don't think that I am going to play that game at all, as I simply dislike the  combat system too much.

Instead, I intend to make a unit useable for Lion/Dragon Rampant, maybe SAGA Crescent and Cross, and, of course, a warband for Chaos in Carpathia, which I have had on hold for some years.

The Scarecrows will be supplemented with a few more, to bring them up to strength to use as a unit for God of Battles, and again, also for Lion/Dragon Rampant, and Chaos in Carpathia.

Well, so much for the plans. Now, let's see if I see them through...
