LBMS Transfers - Troubles and Possible Solution

Today, after cutting out a couple of Little Big Men Studios shield transfers, I could not get the protective clear film off the sticky side.

I had pondered about this problem in advance, as I have heard that it sometimes happens over time, and I have previously had a couple of transfers ruined.

I have often experienced that temperature can heavily impact the stickiness of adhesives, and I decided to try out heat to soften the 'glue' on the transfers.

Holding the transfer with a pair of tweezers, I used a hair-dryer to heat it up (for about ½-1 minute), and then it was possible to remove the film and attach the transfer to the shield, as normal!

I successfully applied this method to both the transfers, but I think that it has to be repeated several times to prove effective (I may have been lucky).

Blood Eagle: 200 Points Warband Complete

Sigurdr Krage's warband finally is ready to become the scourge of the Saxons. I am now busy painting civilians for my Horisont VIII 4-player participation game. Hi-ho!

I shall add this mini next (but not until after Horisont VIII), and she will also mark the beginning of a Shieldmaiden warband/SAGA warrior point. I am going to cash out for some of the Bad Squiddo Games Shieldmaidens at some point after Christmas, but before I do so, I shall paint at least 4 SAGA points worth of GB plastics for Sigurdr to lead into battle.

Blood Eagle: Sigurdr Krage Finished!

Took me long enough, but that is the price you pay when adding all those little extra bits and bobs to the build when assembling your multi-part plastic miniatures.

Equipped with his brand new shield, sporting the chosen mark of his blood-line, he is now ready to lead my finished 200 points warband on a raid on a Saxon/Rohan settlement in the scenario I am preparing for Horisont VIII.

Here is the profile I created for him earlier this year:

I have prepared Sigurdr for picking up a Throwing Axe when I expand the warband. Throwing Axes are cool.

Blood Eagle - Missing a Hersír

Here is Sigurdr's raiders so far. I actually only need to finish Sigurdr, and I shall have 200 points ready for the table (and I then need to get some civilians painted to act as objectives in my scenario for Horisont VIII).

Blood Eagle: Rolf Finished!

Long overdue (started before the summer holidays), I now finally got the last lick of paint on Rolf, the old Huskarl.

I am not going to write a colour breakdown for him, as, firstly, I don't remember what colours I used several months ago, secondly, I shall not need to replicate the paintjob.

I shall however, as usual, reprint the Blood Eagle profile for Rolf:

Skeleton Warriors - Set For Battle!

This is how far I am going to take this unit before the game tomorrow evening. Highlighting the shields will have to wait, as I still need to get my Necromancer painted (it is based and basecoated), and I do not have the energy to do that tonight (we just an hour ago returned from the Harry Potter Festival in Odense where Anna and Lea went on the Zoomagical Boat Trip in the Dark on Odense Å).

I have to get up early tomorrow to get some paint on the Necromancer, as the girls and I are going to visit the festival during the day this time, to actually see/try some of the other activities, and I shall not have a lot of time on my hands for painting.

Shady Skellies

The Skeleton Warrior unit is almost done, now. I just need to drybrush and flock the bases, and highlight the shield edges with a light drybrush of dark blue-grey, then they can answer the roll-call on Saturday.

I still need to finish the movement trays, but I am fairly optimistic about getting everything ready for my gaming appointment.

Almost There!

I painted shield bosses and backs, and sword handles, painted the shield rims and touched up the shiled bosses with black, then touched up white on the entire unit.

This evening, or tomorrow, I shall wash the models in Agrax Earthshade (as it is the only option available to me right now), and then I may have to do another touch-up with black before highlighting the shields.

If I keep up the pace, the unit should be all finished Friday, at the very latest, which leaves me Saturday for painting my Necromancer (which actually consists of only two areas to be painted).

I am re-basing another old Wight to use as the unit's leader, until I find or build a suitable model (would like one with an 'Arab' look, to be in line with the scimitars and Arab shields I used).

I am rather exited about getting the new army composition tested (and more so, as my opponent will not be Dwarves this time, but Orcs that are less likely to pass all Courage Tests triggered by my 'Undead' ability). I am hoping for a closely fought battle, and Time will tell if my shambling horde will harvest their first victory (not that I expect so; the dice will probably find a way to thwart any cunning plan I try to see through...)

Today's Progress - Almost According to Plans

Got the scimitar blades painted, and the shields glued in place. Spent a lot of time playing cards and board games with my daughters, so there was no time for any more progress.

Tomorrow, the girls are away for a bracelet workshop in Ringe most of the day, and I expect to get the shield bosses, the shield rims, the scimitar handles, and the shield backs painted (not necessarily in that order). I may have time to do some touch-ups after that, but we shall have to see about that...

More Sluggish Progress

Due to my stomach still not being back to normal, I have not been able to spend as much time in the study as I would have preferred (it is simply too unpleasant to sit slight crouched over the minis for longer periods of time).

I gave all the unit's bases the first coat of (Warzone Trench Brown) paint, though. Next up is painting the unpainted swords and gluing the shields on.

I also primed the shields - first white on the backs, then black on the fronts.

I primed them black on the fronts, because I want this unit to have black shields, and this way I just have to touch up the black and drybrush some grey or blue-grey on as highlights.

Hopefulyy, tomorrow will see all the swords painted, and all the shields glued in place!

Been Sick Today - Limited Progress

I have been sick from yesterday afternoon (stomach ailment, probably caused by standing for too long in the cold wind without my coat, after carrying my father-in-law's coffin from the church to the hearse after the funeral service), so I have not been very active, as most of my day was spent on the couch.

I did manage, though, to get the last couple skeletons (and the skeleton dog) sprayed white, and to glue sand to all the bases involved.

This also means that the Skeleton Warrior regiment has been cleared from the prepping station - and as I have gotten an additional couple of boxes from my wife's workplace, I can start sorting my Pulp and Horror mins, and get a dozen or so more minis stowed away.

Next step for these will be painting details (i.e. swords), and putting the first layer of paint on the bases.

'
I also started preparing shields for the unit - these are from the Gripping Beast plastic Arab infantry set.

The backside of the round shields is almost identical to the backside of the Dark Ages shields, but, as can be seen, the rim is different ('flat')-

GoB Viking Army (Blood Gorged Proxies) WIP 3, Transfers Arrived!

Couple of days ago I received some transfers and banners from Little Big Men, ordered for my Vikings.

I now need to find something to use for banner poles, as the banners are too broad for the spears. I hope to procure some brass rod Tuesday, when I go to the hobby/DIY store in Svendborg to get some paint for the LEGO Elves terrain project.
