Thelonious Monk 100 -- October 10, 2017

Thelonious Sphere Monk, Jr was born 100 years ago today, on 10-October-1917.  He came out of the stride piano tradition and was one of the wellsprings of bebop.  Up until early high school, I didn't get his music.  I worked at it after I found an album of his records with Coleman Hawkins.  I kept going with other albums.  Then I got it.

I wonder what he thought about Sun Ra.
