Natalie Cole 75 -- February 6, 2025

Singer songwriter Natalie Cole, the daughter of Nat King Cole, was born 75 years ago today, on 06-February-1950. Her duet with her late father on "Unforgettable" was wildly popular. Like her father, she died too young.

Freddy Cole and Annie Ross, RIP -- July 23, 2020

Pianist and singer Freddy Cole, brother of Nat King Cole, died last month.  I always enjoyed it when KCSM or KJAZ would play one of this new recordings.

Singer Annie Ross has died.  She was one of the pioneers of vocalese.  I like Lambert, Hendricks and Ross.

Nat King Cole -- March 17, 2019

Nat King Cole was born 100 years ago today, on 17-March-1919.  I was watching television one day in 1965 and an announcement came on saying that Nat King Cole had died.  I went to the kitchen and told my mother that Old King Cole had died.

His music was not popular when I was growing up.  I didn't like arrangements with lots of strings.  Later I heard some of  his early stuff with the King Cole Trio and discovered that he was good.
